About This Listing
We are renting for small and long periods an amazing beautiful cottage in the very center of Siena, walking distance of 100 meters from the cathedral and Campo's square, sourraunded by a beautiful garden with a great view of San Domenico's church.
My mother, a very expert licensed guide of Siena and its province, graduated in art history, is available for guided tours! the fee is 70 $ for hour.
For the lovers of the countryside we are also renting a beautiful appartment in Montalcino in via Lapini, in the middle of the best winemaking area of Italy!
The address is vicolo Vallepiatta 12 that is a narrow street just under via Vallepiatta on the corner with via del Costone
We had a great stay at this cottage in Sienna. All comunications were promptly answered and arrival procedures were clear.
The cottage was a delight- modern, tastefully decorated and surrounded by a lovely garden. The small terrace was a good place to start and end the day and enjoy the lovely view.
Our thanks to Bernadino and Francesca's parents who were charming and courteous hosts.
We highly recommend this property.
Francesca was a great hostess. Although she was not there the day we arrived (we met her the day after our arrival), her parents (who live in an adjoining house) greeted us and showed us the ins-and-outs of the cottage/apartment.
The apartment was just as described; great location (only a few minutes of an easy walk to the main square and cathedral), great apartment (the view of the basilica across town is unobscured and beautiful; all the amenities you would expect from a place in Europe), and great people (Francesca provided us with some restaurant recommendations, and while we didn't get to all of them, the one that we tried was one of the best dining experiences of our two-week trip to Italy). She even sent her dad over with a bottle of wine one night as a gift to us.
Siena is a beautiful city, and staying here was the perfect choice for us. We wanted to stay away from hotels for the majority of our trip to Italy (on our honeymoon), and this apartment was the perfect way to feel like we were staying in the city itself, not in a hotel in the city. There are great places to eat a minute walk away, the apartment was clean with a great view and off the main track of the bustling tourists, and Francesca and her parents were very nice and welcoming.
The only drawback worth mentioning is the hike up from the parking deck. This was really only an issue when arriving, as we had multiple large suitcases due to the overall length of our trip to Italy (two weeks, compared to 4 nights at this location). If you have multiple bags, be ready to haul them up a brief (but intense) hill. Note that we drove a rental car to Siena, so your experience may be different if you train or bus.
But that was a very minor thing that we only had to deal with upon arrival. Bottom line: if you are traveling to Siena and want to stay away from hotels, STAY HERE!
We have just returned from Siena and we had a lovely stay in this airy comfortable cottage which is very well equipped and which is set in a beautiful garden with wonderful views. It is in the heart of Siena, perfectly balanced between the bustle and activity of the city and peace and tranquility. There is a sense of space and light and a tortoise meanders through the gardens! Our hosts were warm and helpful and very easy to communicate with. A very positive experience. Thank you .
This is THE perfect place to stay in Siena, and if we ever were to go back, we'd book this place without even looking at any others. If you want to be in the heart of the city, but feel like you're living in the countryside, this place is perfect. The location is just a few hundred meters from the Duomo and literally steps from shops and restaurants. It's on a tiny little street northwest of the Duomo. The space itself is very roomy for 2 people and would easily accommodate 4, though the bathroom is in the bedroom. The property is stunningly gorgeous, with a beautifully maintained garden in the back and looks across a small valley at the Santa Caterina Basilica. The view is only beat by those from the top of the City Tower but here you can enjoy a glass of wine and cheese on the little veranda in the back while you take it all in. All of the photos in the description are from the property, not elsewhere in Siena. It is truly beautiful and had we more time we would've happily spent an entire day just hanging out at the house. The list of restaurants provided was excellent, with both some high end and more reasonably priced ones included. One of them became our favorite in all of Italy. Our hosts (Francesca's parents while we were there) were wonderful, and though the yard is shared with the main house, their house is completely out of sight, the cottage is completely detached, and you really feel like the property is entirely yours. The only time they were in the yard was during the middle of the day (I imagine it takes some effort to maintain such a beautiful garden). The kitchen is very well stocked with good solid implements, we didn't find there was anything missing, though we didn't do any significant cooking while we were there. The bathroom is a small, typical European bathroom, totally functional and clean. The house was immaculate when we arrived, there are gobs of towels, a 6 foot tall wire shelving unit for all your clothes including plenty of hanging space, wifi, etc. In short, it's all there for anything I could imagine someone reasonably wanting to do. There are also multiple sets of keys so you can go different ways during the day if you like. The property is very secure with two gates, one of which locks, plus the door of the cottage itself, but we felt perfectly safe our entire time in Siena. Siena is loud at night, and this location is no exception, with concerts of various types going on fairly late every night we were there (M-F in early June), but they were all done by midnight. I don't know that other locations in Siena would be any better. That was our only possible complaint, but we just shifted our day to accommodate. If you're going to Siena, I can't imagine a better...
The cottage was so comfortable! We particularly enjoyed the beautiful gardens and view. The location felt quiet and private, but was a very close walk to both the Campo and the Duomo - a perfect location.
This is an amazing cottage in the heart of Siena. And how lucky were we, the roses were out; so within 100m of the Cathedral and Piazza del Campo, we were in a tranquil world of wonderful scents, flowers and cool shady shrubs.
Each day started with the filled sun shining into the wonderful airy flat. Then a gentle walk past the Cathedral to buy some fresh fruit and bread for breakfast. Breakfast was either in the dining / entrance area with large windows looking out over San Domenico church on the other side of a small valley, or doing the same from a small seating area outside the bedroom.
The cottage is at the top of the escalator (right branch near top) above parking area at Santa Caterina, so its very easy to get to, once you know - we found our GPS to be pretty hopeless.
Living in Siena means that you have the city almost to yourself before the hordes of tourists arrive from about 10:30am - so this cottage is a great place for seeing the real Siena.
I wrote you a message time before your arrival, writing exactly where you have to park and how to getting from the parking to the house. Also I wrote you several messages and called you some days before your arrival to know if you need help and what time would come, but I didn't have answer.
The location of the cottage is great, just a few steps away from the amazing sights of Siena. We met the parents of the host who were very nice and easy to reach since they live next door. In the house we found everything we needed and the garden is just beautiful!
The accomondation is absolutely recommendable.
Just one hint: You shoudn't be sensitive to noise. The house is in the middle of the town so at night it can be quiet loud from parties and concerts around. But if you don't mind it's wonderful to stay there.
