About this listing
Our cottage is a brand new, 400 square foot private getaway full of farmhouse inspired charm! It features one bedroom with a comfy queen size bed with handmade reclaimed wood headboard and a spacious armoire.
The kitchen comes equipped with a vintage 1960 GE refrigerator, 4 burner stove, toaster and microwave. It is stocked with cooking utensils and pots/pans should the need to whip up a meal strike you. We also have a French press, tea pot and blender.
The main room has cable TV and a futon that coverts into a full sized bed. Extra linens and a snuggly duvet are available. We also have a dining table for two and a full supply of glassware and utensils.
The bathroom is a full 3 piece washroom with roomy shower. The shelves are handmade from wine boxes and the hardware from galvanized steel!
Guests have their own dedicated space to relax and enjoy the beauty of wine country. We offer guests a complimentary bottle of wine (with a two night stay or longer) as well as all the supplies to make 'smores! In the outdoor space, guests can relax around their own fire pit or grill up dinner on their own BBQ. We will also be extending the use of 2 bikes for guests to use...the Sonoma plaza is a quick 2 mile pedal away!
Interaction with Guests
The cottage is located behind our home, so we are usually here to greet our guests and get them settled in. My husband, Alex, grew up right here in Sonoma and is so knowledgeable about the area. We love to provide guests with suggestions on our favorite wineries, shops, places to eat and things to do from a locals perspective!
The neighborhood is laid back and family oriented, and just a few minute walk to Maxwell Park. It is also conveniently located close to 3 grocery stores, restaurants (including a great Mexican spot with our favorite burritos and salsa verde) and a coffee shop, and is only 2 miles away from the downtown Sonoma Plaza. We are also located just a mile or so from the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn, which has a fantastic spa that features thermal mineral pools unique to Sonoma (they do welcome day guests).
We do offer dedicated parking at the cottage. Having a car is the easiest way to get around but if you want to enjoy the MANY wineries in Sonoma without worry, there are a number of companies that offer car service (we would be happy to provide recommendations!)
We love our little cottage and ask that you please treat it well! We don't allow smoking inside the cottage, please. Also, as much as we love them, there are no pets allowed. Our home does share the space with the cottage, so we ask that guests keep music and voices to a reasonable level, especially when enjoying the outdoor areas.
When you leave, please tidy up. I don't expect the house to be sparkling (you are on vacation) but please try to leave the cottage as close to how you found it as possible. Dirty linens (sheets and towels) can be left on the floor. Please wash your dishes and put them away. Thanks!!
This is a great cottage. Heather really goes the extra, extra mile to make the cottage cozy, inviting and relaxing. It was also very clean. We will definitely stay again when we are back in the area.
So the house is really cute, the decor is lovely with lots of attention to detail. We were sad that the bikes that are advertised in the listing were not available, only one was in working condition. I would just say that things like this should be checked by the host before guest arrive.
The location is perfect for traveling to and from the plaza, had those bikes been working it would have been quite lovely to take a bike ride.
The owners have dogs which don't bother me, I have a dog myself. They bark a lot! When guest are coming and going which isn't a terribly big deal, the guest house is far enough away that we can't hear the dogs if they continue to bark after we've passed by. For the most part the host kept the dogs in doors, however on one occasion after dropping my fiancé off for a food tour I returned to the home and the dogs were out in the backyard and they attacked me... Literally. The ran at me barking and then the bigger one bit my thigh... I dropped my freshly bought pastry and luckily was able to hold on to my coffee despite being completely caught off guard and in pain. It would have been a relatively nice trip had I not had this experience. If the dogs are aggressive they should be kept confined the entire time PAYING guest are occupying the guest house, this was completely unacceptable.
What a wonderful little spot in the heart of Sonoma. We love, love, loved staying at Annabelle's Cottage.
This place is perfect for a couple or two/three friends looking to explore wine country. We arrived to an incredibly clean bungalow with a bottle of red wine, two bicycles, a fire pit, even fixings to make s'mores (though we just didn't have time).
The drive from the 101 to this place is a solid 30 minutes, but puts you on a quiet street very close to some beautiful wineries and restaurants: Scribe, Kunde, Chateau St. Jean, Fremont Diner.
Check-in and check-out was a breeze, and the family was incredibly friendly. Heather even got in touch with us when we arrived later than expected, just to ensure we were okay and could find our way. She went ahead and opened up the cottage so we arrived to a well-lit space. Such a nice touch.
If we go back to wine country any time soon, we'll stay here again.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It is a lovely and comfortable space and an easy trip to downtown Sonoma. Heather was very gracious and understanding when we broke the coffee French press - oops! Would definitely stay again!

About the Host, Heather
I am a Florida girl who met and married a Sonoma native, and now we have the pleasure of raising our baby girl in the beautiful Sonoma wine country!
After our daughter was born I left my career in the spa industry to be a stay at home mom. Over the last 2 years I have gone from renting just the cottage behind our home to managing 5 additional properties owned by my mother and father in law. We have build our own little "cottage industry" (no pun intended!). It is truly a family affair and I am so lucky to be able to spend time with my wonderful daughter and still enjoy being in the hospitality business!
