In Cetona there are two very good restaurants offering the typical Tuscan cuisine and a great choice of local wines. THINGS TO DO:
The area offers many different activities:
With beautiful nature walks you can take a break and enjoy the beauty of this unique part of Tuscany and its harmonious natural sites. The area offers good indoor and outdoor SPAS where you can relax and revitalize yourself.
Lots of great food and wine experiences and culinary adventures... We have many suggestions for you.
On Saturday the town square has beautiful cheerful town outdoor market where you can purchaise fresh fruit, vegetable, cheese and pasta.
To completely enjoy the beauty of the area, we highly recommend to rent a car (in case you were not coming with your own one). You can easily reach the towns of Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, Siena, Firenze, Assisi, Perugia and Orvieto by car.
If you come by train the nearest railway station is Chiusi-Scalo. Then you can reach Cetona by bus or taxi.
We prefer that our guests do not smoke inside the house.
Smokers will be at their ease on the all-beautiful and confortable 'vicolo'.
On the day of departure the house has to be left in the same clean and tidy condition that the guest has found it on arrival.
OMG! This place is amazing. This HUGE house has an overwhelming amount of character! There is a wine seller, fireplace in one of the bathrooms, bathtub in other bathroom, Spanish tile everywhere, incredible views of the Italian countryside. The place is amazing.
Francesco greeted us with a bottle of wine and later brought over some Italian beer for my boyfriend. The town of Cetona is very quaint and beautiful. We ran into Francesco every night in town -- which was convenient when we got locked out of the house lol He gave us two rides into town and was an incredible host! We loved him!!!
My only slightly negative feedback would be that we had a really really hard time finding the house. The driving directions that were emailed to us included going up and down many steep hills and since we took the train to a taxi that dropped us off in the middle of town -- we were hauling our luggage around the outside of the town -- when we could have just walked through the middle of the time to the home. Also -- the address was wrong on the email that was sent to us. So we were ringing the bell at the wrong home in really hot weather... borrowing a cell phone from a local to try to call Alessandra... So that part was kind of a mess.
Dear Amanda, you arrived to our house with more than an hour of delay and we waited for you without negative feeling. I suggest you to check your mail in advance and not 2 hours before check in time, if your mobile has problems in opening my instructions is not my fault... We use the same instructions to get to our houses listed here because they are in the same vicolo, one at # 43 and one at #13, that in Cetona means ten steps beyond. We know very well to be lucky and relaxed people.
I m going to make it short and clear: if you, dear reader, are considering going to this place but you re still not quite convinced that that is THE place for your perfect holiday you may stop looking around for other stuff right now! It is the perfect Spot for an enjoyable time in the tuscany! go there! Now!
Alessandra and her husband, Francesco, were fantastic hosts. They made us feel very welcome by coordinating with us and suggesting activities to do in the area. All of our communication was very clear. The house provided even more space and comfort than we realized from the pictures. It was truly unique, and fit all of our needs and more. At Francesco's suggestion, we went to nearby Sarteano for a swim, and this was just incredible. We were also able to visit Perugia, Chiusi, Montepulciano, and Chianciano Terme easily by car. Cetona itself is very charming and has some wonderful shops and restaurants. We would definitely go back in a heartbeat! Thanks to these great hosts for helping us to create such a wonderful experience.
If I could give Alessandra and Francesco 6*, I would!
My boyfriend and I arrived at the Chiusi train station and Francesco picked us up for a small fee. Once he picked us up, we mentioned maybe wanting to rent a car, so Francesco drove to 4 different car rental agencies to try and make sure we were accommodated-- sadly since it was during high season, all the cars were taken. This still didn't stop Francesco, though, because he contacted yet another car rental agency by phone and they were able to deliver the car to us the next day for a reasonable price (for 2 days + delivery + insurance = 150 Euros).
Once we arrived at the location we were floored at how beautiful it was; picturesque views of the Tuscan mountainside, adorably rustic decor and not to mention the actual size of the house (we were only 2 but you could comfortably fit a family in there for a vacation).
As we were settling into our temporary dream home, Francesco brought us a bottle of wine as a welcome gift and Alessandra emailed us some amazing recommendations of places to visit/eat in the area... if you're in Cetona, you can't miss a picnic in Suzie's Yard-- truly one of the most unique and delicious dining experiences I've ever had! (Another bonus about this place is that Alessandra and Francesco know a lot of the local restaurant owners, so they can often arrange some kind of discount/deal.)
Overall, this has been the best AirBnB experience I've had to date-- a relaxing, romantic setting with outstanding hosts checking in on us to ensure we were enjoying our stay. The location is also perfect if you're looking for the authentic Tuscan experience (loads of wineries in nearby villages, cobblestone streets and barely any tourists).
Alessandra & Francesca were very helpful to us on arrival. Do not rely on GPS to navigate to home. We got stuck in a very narrow street. Francesca came to guide us out and helped with our luggage to the house. You cannot park at the house. Parking is just a few minutes away.
He was very helpful with tips for local attractions and a discount at the local restaurant. The house is spacious and well situated to capture nice views of surrounding countryside. Call Alessandra with your ETA so that Francesca can meet you at the local square and guide you to the house.
This home is very comfortable and much bigger than what we expected. 2 levels of living and being in the old borgo gave us a real feel as to how the locals live. The village is small with very few tourists, when we went and has a great comunity feel. The shops in the Piazza meant you had access to food, restaurants, gift shops etc. This was a 2 min walk from the house. The views close by are incredible and there is easy access to many beautiful other villages from Cetona. Alessandra was extremely prompt in her communication and we had no issues at all. A free bottle of wine left in the kitchen was the perfect way to celebrate our stay here. Cetona is absolutely beautiful and their were no problems at all with the house.
