The Space

So you may have seen the pictures of the individual rooms and wondered if the whole house could be yours instead? You found the listing! This it!

Located only 2.5 miles from the entrance of the Hawaii Volcanos National Park, in the village of Volcano (not in Mountain View, and not in the community across the road from Volcano - this is the real thing). One mile each way from the Cooper Center and Volcano Art Center.

Escape to a secluded rainforest paradise, where the only noises are raindrops on the many skylights and birds in the morning. Located in the cozy little village of Volcano, you are only about a mile away from the entrance to the Hawaii Volcanos National Park, making this the your perfect home base to explore the park and spend evenings by the fire. We are only 45 minutes from Hilo and the Hamakua coast, and about an hour away from South Point and the wonders of its wild beaches (including the famous Green Sands Beach).

You will have a private room with a queen size bed in a fully equipped home with kitchen, wireless broadband, free laundry facilities, a warm fire stove, a beautiful and sunny covered lanai (outside porch), verdant gardens, board games and a shower room to die for. The only place in the house without a view to beautiful greenery is probably underneath your bed. After a visit to Madam Pele, you will come home to a cozy spot where the stars are so bright it looks like you could touch them. The pictures do not come close to doing this beautiful place justice

Come enjoy the cool mountain climate of Volcano, visit its arts center, drive down Chain of Craters Road, wander outside amongst the giant tree ferns or just retreat for a couple of quiet days to relax and recharge your batteries.

  • Good communication and easy reservation from host. The Ginger Hale is as enchanting as the lands which surround it. Great home base and near Kilauea for Visitor Center, Volcano Art Gallery, lava tubes and nighttime viewing. Near the Community Center for events and Volcano Village for Thai, Lodge, etc.

  • The Ginger Hale is a great way to enjoy the tropical rainforest. The home is cozy, well appointed and has everything you will need to decompress. Melissa and Alex are super easy to work with and Melissa is very responsive to any and all requests. The location of the home and the open layout with large windows will let you enjoy the lush green vegetation surrounding it to the fullest. The indoor shower (with the outdoor feel) is very unique and our son loved it! Melissa recommended places to pick up groceries, Alex recommended places to visits and things to do which helped us significantly in planning our stay.

  • We had a great time being so close to Volcano National Park, but with the privacy of a jungle hideaway. The house is built with beautiful woods and incredible craftsmanship. The information provided in the binders was very helpful to discover all that Volcano has to offer. The restaurants Thai Thai and The Lodge were quite good. Thanks so much, J & J

  • Great stay at the Ginger Cottage! It's literally off the beaten path (down a short bumpy dirt road) but the house is gorgeous and well appointed. Melissa and Alex were great with communication and even had bread, jams and drinks ready for us when we arrived. Would definitely recommend it, if you're visiting the volcano or even Hilo :)

  • The house was very nice. It was particularly well prepared and very comfortable. Totally recommend it. The only minor drawback was the condition of the road. We were in an SUV which made it a non-issue, In a small car it would have been a challenge,

    Response from Alex:

Thanks, Mike. The road is indeed unpaved, but it is passable for small cars. We drive a small Toyota Yaris on it, and while one needs to go slow it does work. Having said that, one of the upcoming projects for the house is to get some gravel and spread it on the road to make it better - we do that regularly and it is getting to the time to do it. Thanks for the pointer!

    Aloha

  • Loved it! A cleverly designed light-filled house with beautiful wooden interior, comfortable furnishings, and tropical leafy views. Location was perfect for our visit to Volcanoes National Park. The space worked well for our group of six (two couples and two 20ish brothers.) The huge walk-in shower was luxurious. Alex provided coffee, home-made yogurt, and other amenities. Cheery wood-burning stove and plenty of blankets took the chill off a January night. We'd happily return.
