About This Listing
This unit is in a refurbished building previously built to house a traveling art exhibit. It's now a unique space with a queen size bed and private bath on the property of a busy farm to fork breakfast and lunch cafe.
Small B&B is unusual in that we have separate buildings for our guests. This allows us to have children and pets. The grounds and cafe also have fun local artist pieces and a relaxed atmosphere. We have small space efficient rooms as well as a spacious cottage with kitchenette and living room (this room is a separate listing).
Beautiful grounds with hammocks and fire pit. Guests can also use the cafe space to relax or work once the cafe is closed at 2 p.m.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy our guests and love to get to know them. At the same time, we're running a busy cafe. In general, we tend to leave guests to their own devices.
Pittsboro is a unique, creative, and progressive town close to Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham. With a Tiger Rescue facility close by, one of the best high end restaurants in the area, and fun small town, there's no shortage of things to do.
No public transit in the area.
Guests with children and pets are expected to supervise as appropriate. Pet owners are required to pick up after their pets.
I'm not sure I can put into words how great this place truly is, but I hope to do my best. I was looking for a weekend respite that wasn't too far away from where I live, but worlds apart from my reality as a frazzled mom of 5... and I found it & so much more at Small. There is a beautifully simple peace about this place that draws you in and makes it so difficult to leave.
Lisa & Dave are friendly, courteous & laid-back eclectic hosts... and it was so easy to relax and reset during my 2-night stay in their Woodshed unit -- a former UNC exhibit made even more special with little unique touches they've added throughout. Pictures don't do any of it justice -- so much more has been added since these were taken... and Dave & Lisa have turned their property into such a special, small place that feels like it's own big little world right in the heart of Pittsboro. At times, I had the place all to myself & could take it all in, hanging out on some of Dave's creations & listening to nature while I read or took photos. During others, I was fortunate to be part of the crowd of cafe patrons & it was really wonderful watching the locals interact with Dave & Lisa & vice-versa -- you can tell they are loved by the community and the feeling is so mutual... like watching old friends, rather than owners & customers.
I could go on and on, but I'll try to hit a few more high points and hope it's enough of a glimpse for anyone considering a stay... which shouldn't even be a question -- just do it and find out how special the Small B&B is! The room was a cozy mix of old and new that made me feel welcome. I loved the simple decor and industrial touches... and the hosts were kind and accommodating throughout. But the food is what seals the deal... really! Small's menu is so big in so many ways, and it was easy to find something new to try and love every day -- especially their inventive wildcard options . I heard others mention favorites, and quickly found one of my own -- French toast made with orange flower water, cardamom & pistachios... yum-- so I'm sure you will, too. So much of their food/ingredients is sourced locally as well... even better!
I had such a great experience, and found such a simple & satisfying peace there -- I couldn't wait to get back. So much so, that I just stayed there again this weekend with my husband in the Treehouse unit so he could soak up a little of Small, walk about Pittsboro, & see for himself why it will always hold a special place in my heart. :)
Thanks, Lisa & Dave -- I needed this more than you know!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 1 night with our dog and we couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Lisa was very welcoming to both her human and canine guests. The entire property is wonderfully decorated with an eclectic mix of art pieces made from reclaimed and recycled materials. To top it all off, breakfast was delicious. Hint: don't miss the lemon ricotta pancakes if they are offered. The highest compliment I can pay is: I can't wait to return for another stay.
The Woodshed at Small B&B was a delight. Given the choice, we'd always rather find an interesting place off of the beaten path and this place did not disappoint as a slight change of pace from staying in Chapel Hill. Lisa & Dave were great hosts; the room was clean, comfortable, cozy, and perfectly unique; the breakfast cooked up in the Small B&B Cafe was delicious; Pittsboro was a neat little town. We thoroughly enjoyed the property and our stay there, and plan to come back.
