Simplicity in paradise! Lovely homestay opportunity with an awesome young local fam and their two lovely kids. Close to some of the greatest beaches of the area and in walking distance to the sweet community of Playa Chiquita. Great deal!
EXPERIENCE THE REAL CARIBBEAN OF COSTA RICA IN THIS SYMPATHETIC LOCAL MINI-HOSTEL
This is the place of a super sweet local family that I have been friends with for over six years.
They have a simple but beautifully authentic Caribbean-style double house, with one cabina with own bathroom and a small kitchen on one side, and two small private rooms on two floors with shared kitchen and shared bathroom on the other side. Big parts of the house have been newly renovated in the last 2 months, and the plan is to improve more details over the course of the next months.
The house is set in a beautiful, well-maintained garden in a quiet and safe neighborhood.
This listing is for the small double room on the second floor with a double bed, mosquito net, a fan, some shelves and a little balcony. The shared bathroom with cold water shower is downstairs as is the shared outdoor kitchen (with roof) that is equipped with a stove, fridge, some pans and kitchenware for basic cooking as well as some seatings.
If you are on a budget, are easy-going, nature-loving persons and would like to experience the real Caribbean and its people and share with like-minded travelers, this charming local mini-hostel (with just three rooms) is the place for you!
The family has two kids (6 & 11 years-old) and lives on the same property in the house next-door. They have been living in the area all their lives and are great sources of information all around the area, wildlife and local food and traditions. They and their family are passionate fishermen and will be happy to provide fresh fish and lobsters for reasonable prices every time they make a catch. They can also take you on private hikes, kayak tours and snorkel adventures for fair rates.
Wifi available in the room.
Laundry service 6$ per load (only washing, no drying)
Bus pickup service in Puerto Viejo: 8$ per way
They also offer shared lunch or dinner for very accessible prices, just ask them!
The families English is pretty basic still, so you will need to apply your Spanish or hands and feet for communication most of the time :) I will take care of all your questions and arrangements prior to your stay and am happy to assist with any questions or problems during your time here (I just live 300 mts. away). I can also assist with your tour and transportation arrangements, should you need any help.
Just 400 mts. from the small community of Playa Chiquita (with supermarket, some restaurants and a bar) and 400 mts in both directions to some of the most beautiful beaches of the area (Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva). Puerto Viejo is about 6 km away and can be reached with an easy 30-minute bike ride or by public bus, that runs every two hours and stops just 150 mts. from the house. The nature reserve Gandoca-Manzanillo is about 7 km away and the popular Jaguar Rescue Center just 2 km.
There is regular public transportation between Manzanillo and Cahuita. Best way to get around are bikes, that can be rented at our friends for 5$ a day.
My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful stay with Andre's, Rocio and their 2 wonderful children Andrì and Romy (oh and not to forget their awesome dog Chiquita who I made friends with right off the bat with a nice belly rub). They are great people, very friendly, giving and willing to help in any way possible. We were greeted with smiles and a bunch of deliciously sweet fruit from their property :-) The guest house and accommodations were excellent, quite roomy and very clean. Andre's and his wife are both artist and their work is prevalent throughout the house and property. Andre's has done all of the custom tile work in the guest house and it is quite impressive and the patterns and colors are beautiful. Andre's is also a fisherman so if you like fresh fish and lobster you will love staying here! We bought fish and lobster on several occasions for a very reasonable price. The only minor complaint or criticism (if you want to call it that) we had was that the cook ware (pots, pans etc..) and cooking utensils could use some needed additions as well as replacing some of the worn or broken things but let me stress that we got by fine with what was there and we were overall happy with everything. The only other thing that we had problems with was the mosquito netting (was to small for the size of the bed) over the bed in the downstairs private kitchen/bath accommodations but we made it work and were fine. We also brought that up to Anja (the listing host for Andre's & Rocio) and she said they would address that and were working on having them get some new cookware. Like I stated these were minor "complaints" that I have a hard time even calling complaints because the place, family and our stay was amazing!! I also want to add that Anja and her husband Mau (who are friends of Andre's & Rocio and help them to list and book the accommodations on airbnb) were absolutely awesome and great people to deal with and to stay with as we stayed with them as well for over 2 wks. Both Anja and Mau took us to Andre's and Rocio's, helped us with our bags, made the introductions and made sure to show us our accommodations and make sure we were comfortable before they left. The value exceeded the price of the room and we would both highly recommend staying here and we are both looking forward to staying here again in the near future :-) Rest assured you will love it here just as we did!
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
