Interaction with Guests
I typically communicate through email and phone.
We love the neighborhood, which is in the choice Westside area of Santa Cruz between the Lighthouse and Natural Bridges beach. Unlike the noisy and congested Boardwalk area, this is very quiet. The cottage is close enough to the ocean that you can often smell the salt air. Very private location, set back from the road. SEE COMMENTS UNDER "EXTRA DETAILS."
Off street parking in front of cottage. There is a bus that stops one street away from Alta Avenue. On foot, walkable to Natural Bridges Beach and the Boardwalk (the latter about a 20 minute walk from cottage along the ocean). By car, a 10 minute ride to downtown.
Wonderful restaurants nearby! See suggestions in pamphlets on magazine rack to left of kitchen entry.
Other Things to Note
I always trumpet the peacefulness of the neighborhood.
Previous guests have been thrilled with the location so close to the beach. They also love the neighborhood and the fact that the cottage is set well back from the street---very private.
Quiet neighborhood; no loud music after 10pm. Follow procedures in "information for guests" (which is emailed to you after you confirm your reservation) and is left on coffee table or magazine rack in living room).
Not a party house!
No pets; non smokers only
Lovely cottage just steps from the beach. Cottage was on a quiet street and was very cozy and comfortable.
This was the best Air BnB experience ever. Gail was welcoming from the start of the booking process and easy to communicate with. The cottage was delightful--exactly as promised--even better, actually because the outside garden is fabulous and made it hard to leave to go explore! It was perfectly spacious for a family of 4 (our 15 and 12 year old daughters shared the pull-out couch). We walked to the boardwalk, surf museum and beach. In the evening my husband and I drove (could have walked) to check out a few of the local breweries. We were in the middle of a two-week vacation so it was great to have a washer/dryer to use. We really had a hard time leaving--would definitely go back!
Jennifer: So glad you enjoyed your visit. And I would love to have you visit again.I completely agree with you about the driveway. Parking on the street is much easier. There is a hose at the far right front of the cottage. I'll try to remember to put that in the info I send guests. warm wishes, Gail
We loved this cottage! At first, we thought it might be hot at night, but the California evenings cooled it down perfectly. The pretty little garden was ideal for an evening beer once the kids were in bed.
This was our first visit to Santa Cruz, at the end of our touring vacation. It was the perfect place to chill out, walk to Dog Beach (a big hit with the kids), drive to Monterey Bay Aquarium, wander around downtown deciding what to eat. Lots of interesting architecture and gardens to look at on the walk home. Loved it!
Gail's cottage is in an adorable neighborhood, just a quick walk to coffee shops and the coast. You can hear the waves crashing from the backyard! We found the space very inviting, comfortable and much more spacious than we had anticipated. I would absolutely stay here again!
Great cozy cottage with great location. Only downside is that they really need to get wi-fi since we couldn't even use our Verizon hotspot since cell reception was so poor.
Other than that we highly recommend and will stay again- when they get wi-fi
Fantastic location just a few blocks from westcliff. The cottage is cozy and no frills, but is perfect for a couple or small family. We especially enjoyed sitting on the back patio!
The cottage was cozy and clean. We loved the quiet neighborhood and cute garden. It was perfect for our small family getaway. My three year old son refers to it as the "house that we borrowed" and keeps asking when we can go back. Hopefully soon. Thanks Gail!
