We had a great time at the Looky Home. We were greeted by a somewhat weird guy (another guest) who wouldn't let us in at first, but Heigo quickly took care of that ;-). All the other maybe five or so guests from all around the world were really nice and interesting to talk to.
The place is beautiful, clean and quiet and located in what seems to be a very good and safe neighborhood. Heigo even provides a couple of bikes for his guests which we used to get to Stanford and back. If you don't mind sleeping in a bunk bed (which by the way was no problem at all) I would definitely recommend this place.
I came in Heigo house for a week and it was a very good experience.
Heigo is a generous, accommodating host. He has designed the space to be self-explanatory, with ready access to whatever might be needed by just about anyone. Laundry, cooking, computer station, hot water, quiet sleep--what I needed was easily available, and the open set-up gave me a sense of both freedom and belonging. This is a classic Eichler home with original modernist open floor plan, and Heigo maintains this tradition in style, creating a visually appealing space. [I was decades older than other guests and yet didn't feel at all out of place.] I met engaging people, mostly Europeans, during my four-day stay. My two roommates were lovely Chinese women, Lee and Julia, I loved getting to know them. A safe, quiet neighborhood, easy 15-minute drive to my training at Stanford's Red Barn, a stop at Trader Joe's on the way back in the evening, uncomplicated, spacious, open, this was the perfect place for me to rest and regroup at the end of each day. Thanks so much, Heigo, you are an awesome host.
This is really for the young start up scene. It was an experience for me but since I'm starting a new venture, I thought it would be a good to get into that low budget mode! Most of the guests were European and for the most part, people went about their own business. It's been a while since I've shared a room with 7 other people! I think I've outgrown this but for those of you who are on a low budget, this is a great set up.
Heigo is a great host; not your usual Palo Alto techie. He is open, welcoming and will provide you lots of advice on whereabouts in Palo Alto. He even cooked a barbecue the first night I was there and was letting me borrow a bike!
Villa Looky was just a perfect, cool and inspiring place for a stop / stay in Palo Alto. Even though it was my first time in town, I really felt like home thanks to Heigo and the kind people who were here too. A great atmosphere, and Heigo was taking great care of us as a host. The Villa is really clean and well equipped. Coming back, no doubt it will be at Villa Looky for its positive energy and cool people!
