WHAT IS KJOS
Kjós is an area with many places of interest and natural beauty. It is one of the places where you can find elfs, play golf, take a guided kayak tour and more. Kjósin is beyond Esja mountain. We who live in Reykjavík say that Esja mountain is our mountain.
Beaches are accessible and Hvalfjarðareyri is a popular area. Lake Meðalfellsvatn is great for fishing and Maríuhöfn, Búðasandur and Hvítanes are places of historical interest. Steðji and the wooden areas of Fossá and Brynjudalur are excellent areas for picnic. Kjós has also splendid hiking trails such as Leggjabrjótur, Kirkjustígur and Gíslagata, who all offer a great view.

WELCOME AND ENJOY!
Matti's cabin provided a fantastic base for us to relax during our last couple of days in Iceland. It was very spacious, warm and had all the self catering facilities as described. It was such a short drive to Reykjavik but felt like we were a world away. It's in a very scenic area surrounded by mountains and as others mentioned, feels secluded even though there are other cabins nearby.
Matti has decorated his place with many interesting pieces of artwork and artifacts from around the world and he was a pleasure to deal with during our stay. Thanks for helping us end our trip in such a memorable way.

Super lovely cabin in a stunning environment, we had some wonderful days there.
Lovely cabin in stunning location! Spent an enjoyable 10 days at Matti's cabin using it as a base to explore some of Iceland's finest places! Plenty to see near and further afield. Matti is a great communicator and very helpful and friendly, always a text away should you require any advice.
The cabin is located in a stunning part of Iceland, surrounded by mountains and near a beautiful lake. It's also a good place to view the Aurora's. The first two nights we were able to see and photograph the Aurora's overhead - what a treat! There are other cabins in the immediate area, but each is surrounded by trees and with plenty of space between cabins to ensure privacy. We never heard or saw another person in the time we were there. The cabin is great place to relax and unwind should you choose just to hang out there for the day. It's nice and spacious, including the bathroom and shower, and three of us never felt on top of each other. The kitchen is equipped and there's always plenty of hot water for showers.
You don't need a 4x4 if you're staying there but would recommend one if you plan to off road. There are two ways to get to Matti's, one via an unpaved road which takes about 30 minutes once you turn off from road 36, or you can take a paved road right up to the turning for the cabin via road 47 to 461. The gravel road to the cabin does have potholes, but you don't need to drive through them as there is plenty of area to negotiate.
Like others before, I would highly recommend stocking up on provisions on your way to the cabin. If you're coming from the airport, there are plenty of Bonus supermarkets along the route. The first one about 5 minutes from KEF airport off road 41. When we arrived there was a stock of various herbs/spices/salt/pepper/sugar as well as other dry food stock. There is a coffee machine, but did not use.
I would suggest bringing a thermos with you to cut travel costs in addition to the fact that there wasn't much in the way of eateries in the places where we visited. Finding vegetarian food proves even more difficult. We would fill a flask with hot drinks for the day and another for either soups or pastas to take with us and eat in the beautiful countryside. After being out in the cold and rain, it was nice to have a hot drink in the car to warm up! Thermos make a few super lightweight flasks.
Thanks again Matti! Would definitely return!
Matti's cabin is indeed 'nice', as described. It's large and comfortable. It's situated in a cluster or estate of other similar cabins but is entirely private once you're in it and is not overlooked in any way. The access road to the cabins is pretty potholed so a 4x4 is recommended for the final bit of the journey, but from our experience of driving in Iceland it makes sense to spend the extra cash and get ones of those anyway. We didn't meet Matti personally but communication with him was excellent and everything went very smoothly. As others have said, it makes sense to stock up on food (and petrol/gas) before leaving Reykjavik since there's not too much in the vicinity. We enjoyed our brief stay in the cabin and its location is good for checking out golden circle sights or exploring a little further north or west.
Matti's cabin is an amazing place to stay. Removed from the hustle and bustle of Reykjavik but not so far that it takes you out of your way. The place itself is surrounded by a few other cabins but you might as well be by yourself as the trees keep you nice and secluded. I would reccomend this place for sure.

We spent three days in Mattis cabin. From The cabin we took a walk in beautiful surroundings, went to Geysir, Tingvellir and Gullfoss and we went horseriding. The cabin was very nice and Matti friendly and helpful.
This was a very comfortable and cosy cabin, with a fantastic view. It had everything we needed for our stay, and we particularly appreciated having wi-fi! Mattie's directions to the cabin were really useful, and everything went really smoothly. We really enjoyed our stay, and hope to return sometime soon!
When can we move in? :)
Our stay was fantastic in the cabin. We didn't meet Matti but had easy communication with him leading up to our stay. The cabin was beautiful, romantic, secluded, and one of the best parts of our honeymoon across Iceland.
