We didn't stay in Pen's Roppongi apartment as there was an issue with the washing machine, but he did immediately set us us with another location, and was communicative/responsive, and helpful for our entire stay. Instructions were clear and we had no problems. We were very comfortable in the Shinjuku Apt (11th floor with Pocket WiFi) listing he offered and amenities met our needs. Thanks Pen!
Staying in Tokyo was awesome! The apartment was in a great location and just a short walk to the Roppongi Station which made traveling around the city easy. Having a pocket wifi while in the city is a must so it's nice that it was included. The only room for improvement that I can think of would be to upgrade the bedding as it was a little bit unclean upon arrival. Other than that, the apartment is in a good location, Pen is always responsive and willing to help in any way, and the city is great!
We stayed at Pen's apartment for 4 months and it was the perfect home base to explore Tokyo. There are 3 subway stations within a 15 minute walk, lots of convenience stores and grocery stores including an international grocery store that had anything we craved from home and everything described in English. Very convenient. The kitchen area now has some pots and pans and other items to cook that we left behind. It was invaluable to have the washing machine and everything dried very quickly in the back yard. When we first arrived Pen took us on a small tour of the neighborhood and made sure we had everything we needed. We had an amazing stay and would certainly contact Pen again if we ever returned to Tokyo!
This was our first airbnb experience so we were not sure what to expect.
Apartment was in a great location, very small but all we needed. Host communicated well and the pocket wifi was a godsend!
So when we arrived after our 14 hours of travel were told that the cleaner was sick and he would be by to clean himself after work around 8pm. He arrived about 8.45. Not very convenient for us after a very long day of travelling but fair enough these things happen. So we dropped off our stuff and went for dinner. Figured after reading the negative reviews on the cleaning he would have stepped it up. But the cleaning was very poor. A big clump of hair was still on the side of the shower, false eyelashes stuck to the mirror etc. We had to vacuum the place ourselves. Not sure if we received fresh linen but we found what we hoped were clean ones in the cupboard. If you dont care about cleanliness then its a great place to stay.
Thank you Adam for this constructive feedback, I understand that the cleanness is an issue that need to be addressed immediately. I will coordinate with cleaning company to get it done ASAP. Thank you again for your feedback, and if you come next time, please do contact me and you will see difference!
Thanks Pen for letting use your apartment as our home base for our first time in Tokyo!
Since I was working in Mori tower, the apartment was nicely located and easily walkable to the Roppongi Hills complex where the Mori tower was located, exactly what I was looking for. Also, the apartment is located in what felt like a very safe neighborhood. Since it is very close to the Chinese consulate, there were always guards watching on the street.
Before getting there, we used Google street view to find it which was very convenient as it was on a really small street and probably hard to spot if you don't read Japanese or know where you're going.
In terms of the apartment itself it was basic and good for our needs, as we weren't there in the apartment a lot. The pocket wifi included was critical and key in our exploration of Japan as the subways could be quite confusing. Huge plus in the rental.
Positives: Pocket wifi, easy to get in touch with the host (he was very responsive to email), 10 minute walk to Roppongi station
Not to great: Cigarette smoke permeating the hallways, bathroom and the whole front of the apartment, bathroom was not as clean as I'd like (used eyelashes on the mirror?!), sink in kitchen smelled funny, empty bottles of shampoo and products all over the bathroom and towels smelled funny.
For the not so great, we did things to work around them so not a deal breaker. For example, if you're sensitive to cigarette smoke like I am then staying in there can be extremely overwhelming but if you close the door from the bathroom part to the main apt, it makes it significantly better. We even bought an air freshener to try to help the situation. For the bathroom we just bought some cleaning products and cleaned it more, same with the sink and threw away the empty bottles taking up a lot of space in the bathroom.
Overall a nice basic apartment with a very nice host who is willing to help however he can. Great for the price and located in a cute area! 3.5 out of 5.
