Guest Access

OFTEN , some of my guests have come by car and requested parking garages to park their car.
There are up to few different parking lots garages within a block distance from the apartment.
The cost for the night (10pm to 7am) is around USD $2, plus 5 soles for each additional hour. However, if you need to leave your car during the days of your stay in Cusco, this is available for a different fee.
If you need this service, please remind me to give you my recommendation (based on other guests opinions) regarding which one is the best place to park your car.

Interaction with Guests

We will be meeting upon arrival. If you need me to help you with your travel arrangements to MACHU PICCHU, the CITY TOUR, the SACRED VALLEY or MARAS MORAY, I will be available for questions or to arrange everything for you. Besides, my house is just across the apartment, so I am readily available if you need to reach me.

The Neighborhood

This duplex townhouse is located within 6 blocks walking distance from the Plaza de Armas, which is the main square in Cusco city.

The currency in Peru is EL NUEVO SOL. The exchange rate is approximately USD 1= S/. 2.77 If you bring American dollars or Euros, do not exchange them in airports or banks. Their exchange rate will be lower of what you could get in the streets, here in Cusco. However, and this is important, if you bring US dollars, make sure you bring NEW BILLS. All damaged or broken bills won’t be accepted in Cusco.

  • Monica ia warm and welcoming host. She gave us a very good introduction to the neighborhood. Her home is on a quiet side street walking distance to the city center. Down the street you can catch a minivan to ollaytantambo or Pisaq or other Sacred Valley towns from 5-10 soles each. There is also a fruits and veggie market down the street from the supermarkets which offer just the basic dry goods. The home itself is beautifully decorated and bright and sunny. The decor is also lovely.

There were a few things that would have made it an ideal home. First of all, the kitchen is not well-equipped. It does not have a fridge, has limited utensils and it only has an electric stove similar to the ones you would use on a camping trip which short circuited each time you used it.
There were also ants in one of bathrooms as well as in the cabinets underneath the sink in the kitchen. The water pressure was not consistent and the temperature varied even though we let the heater warm up for double the recommended time. Also, there is no bathroom on the same level as the bedrooms. We also felt that the taxi service, at four times the regular rate (15 soles), was overpriced significantly and negated the convenience so we did not use it upon departure.

    Response from Monica Patricia:

Joanna, thanks for taking this review business so seriously.
We tried to accommodate your stay by complying with all your the requests you made but I guess you missed to mention the electric stove (which we ignored it short circuited and that we would be changing now that we know).
Ants are a problem all over Cusco, sorry .... nothing we could have done respectively. Besides, people who tend to cook a lot, as yourself, often attracts them more than people who cook occasionally.
Lastly, the pick up from the airport is optional and yes, it costs more than taking a taxi in the city. I offer it as an option to my guests which in the past have paid up to USD $40 dollars for a 10 minutes ride. But I guess the gesture is not appreciated when on a very limited budget. C'est la vie! I cannot please everybody.

  • We stayed at Monica's apartment for five nights, and had a great experience.
As a host, Monica was incredibly helpful and always on hand to answer any questions about the city or house. Her English is excellent, which would make things easy for any non Spanish speakers.
The apartment itself is lovely, very comfortable and spacious with lots of natural light upstairs and a fireplace in the downstairs living room. Beds in both rooms were very comfy, and all was quiet at night which made for a very restful stay.
Two bathrooms was a real bonus, and no problems getting a hot shower so long as you remember to flick the switch in time! The kitchen was basic but had pretty much everything we needed (including a toaster and coffee maker!), although it would've been nice to have even a small fridge.
The area has everything you need, as well as being just a 5-10 minute walk from the main square and close to both the bus station and the airport.
Overall, a very positive experience and would definitely recommend staying at Monica's!

  • We stayed for three nights in Monica's lovely apartment in Cusco. The apartment was spacious, cozy, and clean. It was a short walk to the center of town and along a quiet, beautiful street. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of coca leaves (for tea) as well as coffee and other essentials. We had plenty of blankets and clean towels. We could not have asked for more!

Monica was a gracious host, she was amazingly quick to respond to any questions or concerns, gave us the options of getting picked up from the airport and leaving our suitcases while we hiked the Inca Trail, was very welcoming and provided lots of information about what to do in Cusco during our stay. I'd definitely recommend her apartments to anyone visiting Cusco who wants more than the generic hotel experience for a bargain.

  • This little apartment is great, although a little bit cold. The separation of spaces (living on the bottom and sleeping on the top) is great, although there is some sound travel between the two. The fireplace was a great addition, especially in winter, although you may have to brush up on your fire starting skills!

Monica is great and easy to communicate with. She even let us keep a bag of ours there while we were in Aguas Calientes!

    Response from Monica Patricia:

Yes, starting the fire has still been a challenge for me. I am in the search for wood that light up quickly (I guest a more dryer wood) and a place that provides different sizes and smaller pieces. Not an easy search here in Cusco. But thank you for the recommendation. It helps!

  • Monica is absolutely the hostess with the mostest. She was there personally to let us into the apartment and sat down with us to give us the ins and outs of the neighborhood and area. Her recommendations were all spot on. While we were there she was also incredibly helpful, accessible and even helped us out when we were gone on the Inca trail for a few days by letting us stash our bags with her. Her apartment is located in a more local area which for us, was perfect! It was quiet and made us feel more like locals than tourists! The apartment fit our needs and was furnished beautifully. It was an all around great experience.

  • I can't say enough good things about this apartment! First of all, Monica arranged for a cab to pick me up with my two friends from the airport, which was hugely helpful upon arriving in a foreign country after 10+ hours of travel. Once we arrived, Monica gave us a tour of the home, provided a helpful map of the neighborhood, and offered restaurant suggestions.

Monica's home is fully furnished - each bed has two Alpaca blankets! - and the kitchen comes stocked with plenty of coca leaves for brewing tea (which totally helps adjust to the high altitude), coffee, and other tea flavors.

Monica's truly amazing colors showed when we discovered we had to check out at 4:30am on a Saturday morning to begin a trek to Machu Picchu and she graciously made an exception to her standard rules and allowed us to store our non-trekking luggage at her home while we were away.

It's super convenient to everything in the city without being too touristy or loud; in fact it's very quiet at night despite being off a main road. If you're headed to Cusco for any amount of time, I'd wholeheartedly recommend trying to book Monica's home for your stay.

  • My friends and I had a very nice stay in Cusco - the apartment is spacious and the alpaca blankets keep you warm even on the coldest nights. I would recommend staying at her place.

  • A beautiful and quiet cottage close to absolutely everything. While cusco can be loud and busy, this is nestled away in a charming street and is a perfect spot to come home to. Monica is wonderful- not only did she gives us great recommendations for things to do, but she also had maps and helpful info ready for us. We'd love to stay there again!

  • Thanks Monica again for your great hospitality. Our family had great 3 days in Cusco, which is a magic city and you are a wonderful host, multilingual and charming. At the end one word in Polish: DZIEKUJEMY!!!
