The house was everything it said it was and more. The view was amazing and the place is really modern and clean. Can't wait to come back to Malibu and stay here again. Thank you Amber for sharing your home with me on this special weekend. It made my engagement magical!
Based on an extension, I had two reservations for this property, which were booked back-to-back. The location is directly on the PCH, just North of Malibu city limits in Ventura County. This is an apartment that sits behind and above the main house, which is occupied by Amber and her family. I booked the rental for myself and a few close girlfriends. During the second day of our stay, Amber's husband entered the apartment and acted extremely inappropriately; both myself and my guests felt very uncomfortable by the behavior. I would not recommend this host to anyone who has an adversity to sharing space with an owner and/or their spouse.
Firstly, it should be noted this is an apartment that sits behind and above the main house, which is occupied by the host and her family. The location is directly on the PCH, just North of Malibu city limits in Ventura County. One amenity the apartment was listed as having is a Jacuzzi tub, which did not have functioning jets during my stay. I was very much looking forward to a relaxing time at the beach and became frustrated in my communication attempts with Amber both prior to and during my visit. This was due to the delay and/or lack of response to my very specific questions regarding beach access (tides), pet accommodation, late checkout and finally an extension, to which we had originally agreed upon. I was verbally informed by Amber when I bumped into her in the driveway that the apartment had subsequently been rented to someone else (I was told the other party was interested in 2 days as opposed to my additional 1 day rental). Unfortunately, I had already planned/shopped/prepared/invited friends for what was supposed to be a wonderful Easter holiday. The explanation I was given was that this happened because I had sent a 2nd request for information regarding beach access (my 1st request was not responded to), and because I indicated I would like confirmation prior to booking the extension. As an airbnb owner, perhaps I have a higher set of expectations for hosting, however the lack of communication and ultimate retraction of an agreed upon offer really dampened my overall experience. I would recommend this host only for renters who do not mind sharing space in an attached rental apartment and who do not require timely responses to their communication.
My sister and I stayed at Amber's place the night before my wedding in Malibu and then my now husband and I spent the night of our wedding and the next night at Amber's as well.
Oh boy, It was wonderful, where do I even start? First off, we live in Marina Del Rey and are very familiar with places on PCH. Let me tell you, most are run down and smell like mildew. Not Amber's place. It is in amazing condition and although it is on the quaint side, it was more than what we needed. Honestly, all we did was sit on the amazing balcony/deck that overlooks the ocean and read, talked, relaxed as newlyweds. We slept with the sliding doors open so we could hear and smell the ocean, however even with the balcony doors closed, you can still hear the waves crashing. It's a beautiful thang!
Staying at Amber's the night before the wedding was the smartest decision I could have made. My sister and I got up super early, made a Starbucks run and drank coffee on the deck. Watching the waves crash took all of my pre wedding jitters away.
The place is very clean. Fresh towels and sheets were plentiful. The only thing that I will say that could have made the stay absolutely perfect is if there were even instant coffee available, and we could have just stumbled out of bed and drank coffee on the deck instead of having to make a Starbucks run, it would have been amazing. So, bring your own coffee (there is a coffee maker, just no coffee) and your stay will be perfect.
We did have a problem figuring out how to lock the door and were concerned because we were rushing off to our rehearsal dinner, but I called Amber and she sent someone right away to lock the door and even let me know the second it was locked. Honestly, the area is so quiet and safe, it wouldn't have been an issue except for the fact that my wedding dress and jewelry were inside.
Ok, I won't babble on any longer.
Thank you Amber!!!
An idyllic place and location to get away from it all, relax, meditate, chill & feel close to nature ocean-style! You're in Northenmost Malibu miles away from the action of LA. Bring the necessities you need and never leave the premises... You've got it all here.
Amber was a great host and followed up on any issues that needed addressing. PCH Traffic noise in back bedroom is a fact of life but you want to spend most time Oceanside so it's manageable ! Enjoy... And leave it all behind ...
This unit is like going to heaven. I love everything about the space and it's very well kept. The beach is to die for and is totally private. I will always book this unit when I'm in Malibu. Amber and her husband are the best hosts and make you feel right at home.
The Malibu Oceanfront beach house (apartment to be more accurate) is a beautiful location. Almost as far as you can get out of Malibu before you start heading North to Santa Barbara.
Its location is the real selling point. We'd been there for only 10 minutes when we saw humpback/grey whales spouting - and spent the rest of the day on the balcony watching dolphins and whales on their migration.
On the downside - it's looking a little tired these days, and slightly grubby - one particular shelf in the bathroom needed desperate attention.
We couldn't find our way down to the beach as per the instructions - unless we walked alongside what is quite a busy road to the point that the surfers use.
The legalisation of marijuana for medical purposes has meant that there's quite a lot of "swamp gas" floating around the state of California these days. The downstairs flat was intent on self curing to the extent that the apartment (which is on the upper floor only) was reeling in the evenings!
There's room for two cars and parking nose to the property makes for an interesting reverse out onto the busy main highway every time you leave - with cars travelling towards you around a bend in the road at some 50 mph plus.
It was however blissfully sunny with the nearby Neptune's Net providing a damn fine fish burger! In short - you're paying for the view - and if you don't mind much about the rest - then this will suit you perfectly.
