About this listing
We call it "la plage" (the beach), for it's colors and atmosphere. A cozy bed room - wooden floor gives it its charm-, a super loaded kitchen and a small bath room, all together in our 50's house, one step away from the gorgeous calanques.
A nice real wooden floor bedoom -new confi bed with the extra over mastress thing that makes it sooo soft, and yes, you will want to stay in it and finish that book, a modern kitchen (its' got induction cooker and microwave and THE cool master cook oven for those who would really like to bake pastry and cakes during their vacation) and its cute, clean and functional bathroom. The whole with a clean a fresh atmosphere since we revamped it. Equipped with a wash machine to make sure you can walk around smelling good (drying cables outside, in the garden, blowin' in the wind) in those clothing you successfully stuffed in that small luggage you could board in the plane.
The apartment is one of three apartments at the ground floor of our house, standing a bit retreated from the road - nice and quieter. We live upstairs, with our two girls. Isabelle makes elegant pottery - plates mugs and other cool stuff-in the work shop in the garden and is often around... in case you need help. You will hear piano here and then since our girls have their "10 minutes" a day rehearsal... event-though it doesn't really happen every day as it should. Kids. We will happily lend you a nice electric piano should you wish to practice yours.
A cute little terrace on the appartment entrance side. Very cosy for a cofee, or breakfeast in the morning sun. There is another table and chairs under the pine tree, on the side of the house where you'll also find the drying cables.
Interaction with Guests
We love to share with our guests, be it a moment or a glass of vince, depending on everybody's availability. Isa splits her time between her craft shop in the garden's back, et her boutique on the harbor ... and the girl's activities and hers and the house and... (yes, yes, she can)
Marc commute on a more classical way between Marseille et the house during the week.
You'll always get to see one or the other... but you'll never know how long for :-)
The apartment is located 4 minutes walking distance from the old harbor and its dozens of cafés and restaurants, 5 minutes walking distance from the great Figuerolle Calanque and 10 from the gorgeous Mugel Calanque (we swimm there). We walk or bicycle around. Neighborhood grocery store down our house, pizzeria at one minute, 8 minutes to the movie theater and 15 minutes - yes you can- to the new Eden movie theater (remember, the oldest public cinema in France).
The best 'croissants' of La Ciotat and at christmas and christmas only the must taste 'pompe a l'huile' can be bought in the boulangerie, up the street, 60 seconds from the garden door: return trip possible before you coffee cools down.
The boat in the harbor will take you to the 'green island' facing La Ciotat and it's little restaurant and nice walks and swims. Bus will take you directly from the harbor to Marseille (or via the train station) and its great Mucem museum, 'Vieux port' and tons distractions that 1 millions persons city offers.
By train, step down at La Ciotat train station and take the 20 ' bus ride bus (bus#10 or #40 or #200 on sundays and national days) to the terminus, 'la Gare routiere'. Quick hop to the 'office du tourisme' right there and then take the 10 min walk to the house. Basically, keep the harbour on your left until you reach the 'best western hotel'. Past the hotl take the narrow strret on your right (rue lapérouse) and follow it all the way up. When you're at the end of that street, look up, next to the small grocery store stands our house.
By car : Your car can be (usually) easily parked in the neighborhood free of charge.
By Bus : there'a bus going from Marseille to La Ciotat (#69). It'll take you directly to the 'gare routiere' in La Ciotat. Quick hop to the 'office du tourisme' right there and then take the 10 min walk to the house. Basically, keep the harbour on your left until you reach the 'best western hotel'. Past the hotel take the narrow street on your right (rue fernand Lapérouse) and follow it all the way up. When you're at the end of that street, look up, next to the small grocery store stands our house, with it's purple door to our garden.
Other Things to Note
You will have to pay on site the moderate local 'stay tax'. The city set it to 50 cents per person and per day. It is an extra cost, yes, but considering the quality of public equipment, we feel it is a reasonable one. We do not collect it through airbnb payment system since we feel it would no be fair for you to be charged a transaction commission over a tax.
Non smoking apartment, however the petite terrace at the entrance of the apartment is a nice place to drink a coffee and smoke outside.
Point of attention for our guests:
The apartment is one of three standing at the main floor of our house and we live upstair. Therefore, we will see each other, and you will see the other tenants. If your dream is to live an intense life, day and night, according to criteria defined solely with yourself, and if you think that it could prevent others from sleeping or just from living their own dream, then our house is definitely not the right place for that project. :-)
From Jul 2 - Sep 3, 2016 the minimum stay is 7 nights.
