The Space

Sunny, light-filled, spacious, independent 1st floor apartment with large south-facing windows and sea view, in the centre of the seaside town of Portmarnock. Located close to the famous three mile long white Velvet Strand, every convenience is on your doorstep with a large supermarket and other shops at 1 minute's walk. Nearby fabulous restaurants and pubs, golf, tennis, basketball, boules, swimming pool, scenic coastal walks, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing & kite surfing. Take the family to play golf or tennis in Malahide Castle, which also boasts a large children's playground, beautiful walks and an Avoca store and restaurant, a popular destination for Dubliners and visitors alike. Or play golf at one of Ireland's exclusive private golf links, the Portmarnock Golf Links Hotel. Garden enthusiasts can also visit Malahide Castle Park & Gardens where rare plants have been cultivated for decades. Portmarnock also has plenty of smaller parks, public pitches and open spaces to play football or other sports, one of them right next to Malahide Soccer Club where the Irish international soccer team train.
Beside the sea but close to Dublin City, Portmarnock offers an ideal environment to enjoy a real Irish holiday. Visit Dublin during the day, enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of this vibrant City and then come home to refreshing sea air in the evening. Or just spend the day relaxing on the beach, going for invigorating walks along the coast and maybe into one of Malahide's excellent coffee shops or restaurants for a treat! Malahide and Portmarnock are only 3 km apart, and the coast road path linking them is a very popular walk/run/cycle both for locals and visitors, with breathtaking sea views out to the islands of Lambay and Ireland's Eye. On the way, take the kids down to the rock pools to look for hermit crabs, anemones and other fascinating sea life.
Enjoy a drink in one of the atmospheric pubs and listen to a variety of great music. Monday night sessions at the Island View Hotel are particularly good for traditional Irish music enthusiasts. Malahide has a wide variety of restaurants to suit all tastes. There is something for everyone in this home away from home in a very desirable residential area.

The Neighborhood

Come for the sea, the ever-changing wild Irish skies. A feeling of freedom, to breathe fresh sea air, walk along the seashore, but also be able to enjoy all that the lively and friendly city of Dublin has to offer. Perfect location!

The Castle is located within walking distance of Malahide village and on the 32, 42 and 102 bus routes from Portmarnock.
Just a short walk from the castle is a wonderful children's playground, it was recently renovated and consists of various types of swings, slides, climbing frames and imaginative contraptions to suit children of all ages. The playground is tree lined and also contains picnic tables and benches for use by families and visitors.
The Castle Demesne features a 9 hole par 3 Golf Course, an 18 hole Pitch & Putt Course, tennis courts and basket ball courts. There are playing fields for soccer, rugby and gaelic football, plus a cricket ground. There are also exercise trails and a boules area.
This is an 800 year old castle dating from 1185 which was home to the Talbot family and is older than Bunratty Castle in Clare and similar in age to Kilkenny castle. Established for over 35 years as a visitor attraction, the Castle comprises 250 acres of parkland and gardens.
The Talbot Gardens were created by Lord Milo Talbot after 1948, and display almost 5,000 species, including a fine collection of Australasian and Chilean plants. The most important plant collection of its type in the British Isles after Kew Gardens in London
The Castle is furnished with antiques from the era and an extensive collection of Irish portrait paintings, mainly from the National Gallery of Ireland.

A beautiful scenic 2 mile walk along the coast, with views over the sea and out to the islands, Ireland’s Eye and Lambay. Along the way you’ll see pebble beaches and rock pools where fascinating shells and sea creatures can be found. A favourite walk with locals! There is also a small playground along this route and Malahide has an abundance of cafes, restaurants and pubs - I recommend Food Fayre on the Coast road or Seomra Tae in the centre of the village or Avoca Café beside the Castle where you can also buy some delicious delicatessen take home meals. A thoroughly enjoyable and invigorating day out on your doorstep.
Portmarnock can truly boast of its beautiful blue flag 2mile/3km long Velvet strand and well-known championship links golf courses. Locals travel for miles to visit this wonderful amenity, only 5 minutes walk from the apartment. Views of Dublin Bay and Lambay Island are stunning from the beach where there’s also a sculpture to commemorate the Australian aviator Charles Kingsford Smith's departure from the beach to cross the Atlantic in his aircraft, the Southern Cross.
Baldoyle Bay extends from Howth’s West Pier to just below Portmarnock village and is of high conservation importance. The inner estuarine section is a Statutory Nature Reserve and is designated as a wetland of international importance. Two rivers run into the estuary one of which is the Sluice River. The Sluice River Marsh is a relatively intact freshwater marsh, a habitat that is now rare in Dublin. Home to many birds, ducks and visiting wild Brent geese in the winter months, as well as some resident swans.

There are so many activities in the area including many top golf courses, horse riding, water sports, soccer, tennis etc it would be difficult to list them all. Just ask me if you have a particular interest.

  • My friends and I went to Ireland for St. Partick's Day and we wanted to find a place that would be outside the city, but close to Dublin when we wanted to venture over. We were introduced to Sheelagh's house in Portmarnock and it was exactly what we were looking for. It's about 15 minutes away from Dublin by taxi, 45 minutes by bus. There's also a grocery store walking distance from the house where we got our breakfast items and snack. Everyone we met in Ireland is extremely nice and helpful! Sheelagh lives next door if you ever have an questions, but she gives you all the privacy you need during your stay. We got some recommendations of some tourist and non-tourist places to visit while we were in town. She has available a blue binder that gives you all the bus times and popular places to go to in each nearby city. The house looks exactly like the pictures Sheelagh posted, and everything is just as she says on her profile. We talked about coming back to Ireland, and because of our experience, we said that we would if given the chance. Thanks Sheelagh!

  • We had great time in this appt. Very good location for family with children: supermarket in 200m, two bus stations in 200 and 400m, seaside in 400m. Good place for those, who want to rest from big city. Comfortable appt with the bathroom in traditional irish style :)

I love meeting the people who come to our apartment as they come from all corners of the globe and are so interesting to talk to. One of my favourite local walks is the scenic coast road between Malahide and Portmarnock or around the Castle park, finishing with coffee and delicious cakes in one of the many Malahide cafes. At my home I grow organic vegetables in raised beds and walk my dog daily. I'm very interested in natural health especially homeopathy, environmental issues and nature in general - this is why living in this area with clean air, close to the sea, but with easy access to the City is just perfect! Also could not live without family and close friends, all things Italian, especially Parmesan cheese, good books, music and films! I spent 10 years in Italy, speak fluent Italian and adore the aliveness of the Italian spirit!
