We LOVED staying at Francesca's residence. She has done a SPECTACULAR job at making a sophisticated yet warm and comfortable environment. The rooms could not have been more comfortable; the bedding luxurious, ambiance restful and bathrooms ultra-modern. To top that off, Francesca herself was a TERRIFIC host. She was attentive, friendly and extremely helpful. She makes a breakfast that is unbelievable! There were only four of us staying with her at the time (we came off-peak) but there were 3 homemade cakes/breads, meats, cheeses, cookies, cereal, juice and all the coffee we Americans could drink. Her English is terrific and she was really able to help us redirect our plans when bad weather hit. This place even provides housekeeping services...by the lovely Emanuela who speaks English with an Irish accent. They seem to be a great team; both so helpful.
Farnese itself is a tiny off-the-beaten-track town where all the of locals know each other. When we told Francesca that we had not yet been able to see an olive pressing, she picked up the phone and called her friend who lives up the road. The next thing we knew we were up close and personal in a third generation olive production facility getting a personal tour complete with bruschetta straight off the fire and dressed in oil pressed that hour. When we wanted a great dinner, she called her friends Antonella and Miriam, owners of La Piazzetta del Sole located literally 30 meters from the B&B and we found ourselves seated at a lovely restaurant enjoying a wonderful meal.
While Farnese may not be a typical destination town, it is lovely unto itself and conveniently located to several interesting places including the amazing Saturnia thermal springs. I highly recommend taking advantage of this lovely B&B as a home base from which to explore the area.
