We loved staying at the Recording Studio. So much peace and quiet, beautiful scenery and loved watching the horses roam and ride. We slept so soundly! My partner enjoyed playing several of the instruments. Five stars for Spencer's restaurant recommendations Oco Time and Patrona. Thanks for having us!
As all the previous reviews have described, the space Spencer and Esther have provided was beyond awesome. Such a cool spot with so much to see and they are such gracious and friendly hosts. I only wish we had longer to stay and explore the beautiful property and I'm bummed we didn't get an opportunity to see Spencer's tesla man. We will definitely be back to stay for a longer period of time!
Had a wonderful time staying here, Spencer is a fellow musician as well as a visual artist, I had to avoid bothering him too much. Beautiful pianos in perfect tune, comfortable, quiet, homey, eclectic, all around very relaxing. I will definitely be back, if Spencer and Esther will have me. Thanks for the stay!
My girlfriend and I came here for our annual pilgrimage to the Orr Hot Springs. We LOVED this place.
The room is spacious but feels completely cozy and homey. We read several reviews that talked about how quiet the space was and how well they slept in the room and let me tell you: it is 100% true. This rooms is silent and dark and exactly what this country girl who has been living in the city for too long was looking for! The one word of advice I would give to people who are thinking about staying here is: if you want to get an early start on your next day, make sure you set an alarm clock as it is incredibly easy to over-sleep in this space.
Esther and Spencer were great hosts. Esther gave us a thorough tour of the house and grounds and introduced us to the horses (we'll have to budget time for riding lessons on the next visit). And Spencer's "tour" of his classic and restored record players was a real highlight for me. Spencer also gave us a great tip on a simple nature walk nearby we never would have known about otherwise. They were also very accommodating in letting us keep our car at their house for an extra couple of hours while we did the walk.
The house is easy to get to, once you have the details, and is conveniently located for Orr, Montgomery Woods and the nearby towns.
Now that we're back, we're talking about making the Orr trip more than just an annual treat-- and Spencer & Esther's studio will definitely be our home base on any future visits!
This was the most incredible retreat I have ever been to. The room was incredibly quiet and dark, with the combination of the king bed, this was easily some of the best sleep I have gotten in a while. The are that the room is in is so much fun, full of instruments and beautiful antiques as well as incredible one-of-a-kind art handmade by Spencer and Esther. The sound system was incredible, the wine was great and the area could not have been more ideal.
The entire property is incredible. We took riding lesson with Esther with her beautiful Arabian horses, Harmony and Maggie. The whole area is extremely well kept and so beautiful. They are an extremely welcoming, friendly couple and were willing to help with anything we needed.
The spot is near downtown Ukiah, which is very quaint and full of great restaurants. Jackson national forest is next door, Fort Bragg is only and hour and a half away and the drive (regardless of the route chosen) is just as worth the actual visit to the coast. There are some great wineries close by also.
The only way it could be better is if we had extra hours during our visit there! We will definitely be making this a spot for future visits and very highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
The place is a funky music studio that is basically soundproof. There's an outdoor cabin which was super comfy. Birdsong in the mornings and horses and vineyards draped in mist to wake up to. Spencer and Esther were great. Easy, cool hosts that take good care but give you your space. They gave us several restaurant recommendations as well.
Spencer and Esther are great hosts. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and a tour of the property. The main bedroom has a beautiful sound system and is very well insulated so the volume can be cranked up without disturbing Anyone. The secondary room is equipped with the same insulation along with two beautiful pianos, and a ton of artwork unique to their home. The house has a barn with gizmos and gadgets that have an invitation to play with. And make sure you ask Spencer to show you Tesla-Man.
The stay may not be in an entire home but it's okay because the interaction with the hosts that you receive is exactly what you Request.
Also it was nice to receive a list of recommended nearby attractions from the hosts upon acceptance of our reservation.
I would recommend this to anyone that needs a place to stay in the area, Especially if you have a love for the arts. I will return, for a longer stay next time. 2 nights isn't nearly enough-so much to see in the area.
Thank you Spencer and Esther.
We have lived in Mendocino County for 29 years. We love good food, and exploring unique and different places. We live in the country with a barn and stables, surrounded by vineyards and mountains.
I have been in the music business my whole life and now am a consultant for wineries, an artist as well as a concert/festival producer.
Esther loves horses, connecting with people, creates all kinds of cool art and is a marriage & family therapist.
We both make 'found art' or assemblage sculptures and are always looking for weird stuff for our studio.
