About This Listing
The Recording Studio is a converted studio in a rustic country setting surrounded by vineyards and forests on five acres. Our place is quiet, beautiful, peaceful and full of art, music, horses and creativity. A perfect retreat to unplug and relax.
Stay in a converted recording studio in the country where many great records were made. Our guests say it was the quietest sleep they have had as the walls are 2' thick. You have your own private entrance. We are solar powered, on a well, situated on 5 serene acres and surrounded by vineyards. This is a rural getaway for unplugging.
An exquisite king bed is in the Control Room, a queen bed in the 'Isolation Booth' and a queen in a separate building off the house. Price quoted is for the main Control Room and there is a $45 fee for each extra room. Futon mattresses are available for extra people.
You have your own private half bath which has a toilet and sink. The shower is in a separate bathroom which is in the main house. Included is a private coffee pot, tea pot, microwave, small fridge and a toaster oven. Water source is an artesian well. The host's kitchen is available for meal preparation that you might need, just let us know.

We had a wonderful time here. The grounds are lovely and we wish we had more time to explore. The bed was simply amazing and that, with the soundproofing, made for a very restful sleep. Everything was as described and it was a pleasure to stay here. If we ever come back through I would certainly book another night (or two)...
Thanks for making us feel comfortable!
The room was amazing and very interesting to see all the various decorations inside. I had a very peaceful rest as the rooms are soundproof! Very welcoming and would definitely recommend to anyone else
This place is a DREAM. Unlike any other! I can't say enough about the magical atmosphere, the expansive grounds, and the irrepressible charm of every inch of this very special oasis. Spencer's instrument collection and studio are astounding, and you won't find lovelier people and more generous hosts anywhere in the world. My only complaint was that I only stayed one night! I can't wait to back to this gem of a spot.
If you have the chance to stay with Spencer and Ester, take it! Before our arrival, they gave us a list of local recommendations for food, attractions, and wineries, as well as step-by-step directions to their place, which came super handy! When we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles as though we were family. Spencer gave us a cool tour of the studio and then we cooled down with a dip in the pool. We played a movie from his fabulous selection and the sound system is worth the stay on its own! Lastly, I must add I usually cannot sleep past 6am, but with the magical efforts from the sound proof walls, that leak no light at night, I slept like a sedated baby. If you want a great location surrounded with friendly faces, and a good night's rest, you've found it here!
Money cant buy the experience we had. The 4 of us are so grateful for the experience we shared with Spencer and Ester. An amazing and emotional journey in addition to a remarkable tour. Thank you for sharing your life and talent with us.
We had a great experience! The rooms were just as they looked online and the hosts were so helpful. We arrived very late, but Spencer was very accommodating. Wish we could have spent more time here!
Esther and Spencer were unbelievably wonderful hosts! We were looking for a unique, exciting, very special place to surprise our friend as a gift for her 67th birthday. Our experience at The Recording Studio far exceeded our wildest imagination!
From the moment we arrived, we knew we'd discovered an airbnb gem. Esther and Spencer are warm, kind, generous and fascinating hosts. Spencer gave us a spectacular tour of the recording studio, the barn where guests can make artistic creations at their leisure, his scientific creations, the horses, the pool, the grounds, etc. At the end or our stay, he gave us an incredible concert of a variety of different types of music that he had composed! Esther gave our birthday friend the best horseback riding lesson she has ever had. All our encounters with Esther were open-hearted and delightful and we left feeling we wanted to get to know her more deeply.
If you're looking for a very special and wondrous place to vacation, we highly recommend The Recording Studio. Esther and Spencer, thanks so much for a very memorable weekend.
About the Host, Spencer & Esther
We have lived in Mendocino County for 29 years. We love good food, and exploring unique and different places. We live in the country with a barn and stables, surrounded by vineyards and mountains.
I have been in the music business my whole life and now am a consultant for wineries, an artist as well as a concert/festival producer.
Esther loves horses, connecting with people, creates all kinds of cool art and is a marriage & family therapist.
We both make 'found art' or assemblage sculptures and are always looking for weird stuff for our studio.
