The Recording Studio is a converted studio in a rustic country setting surrounded by vineyards and forests on five acres. Our place is quiet, beautiful, peaceful and full of art, music, horses and creativity. A perfect retreat to unplug and relax.

Some of the artists who recorded here are Paul Winter, Holly Near, Alex de Grassi, Paul McCandless, Barbara Higbie, Kostia, Todd Philips, Mike Marshall, Darol Anger, Michael Manring, Joe Craven and many others. Lee Mun Wah's award winning films on racism (The Color of Fear, Last Chance for Eden, If These Walls Could Talk) were all filmed here.

Other Things to Note
Amazing sound system and dead quiet sleeping environment.
This is a smoke free house.
There are three beds in different rooms available. The Control Room is $95. Each additional room is $45 a piece.
We hope we can provide an experience where you relax, have fun, enjoy the countryside, possibly make music and get a great sleep!
This was the most incredible retreat I have ever been to. The room was incredibly quiet and dark, with the combination of the king bed, this was easily some of the best sleep I have gotten in a while. The are that the room is in is so much fun, full of instruments and beautiful antiques as well as incredible one-of-a-kind art handmade by Spencer and Esther. The sound system was incredible, the wine was great and the area could not have been more ideal.
The entire property is incredible. We took riding lesson with Esther with her beautiful Arabian horses, Harmony and Maggie. The whole area is extremely well kept and so beautiful. They are an extremely welcoming, friendly couple and were willing to help with anything we needed.
The spot is near downtown Ukiah, which is very quaint and full of great restaurants. Jackson national forest is next door, Fort Bragg is only and hour and a half away and the drive (regardless of the route chosen) is just as worth the actual visit to the coast. There are some great wineries close by also.
The only way it could be better is if we had extra hours during our visit there! We will definitely be making this a spot for future visits and very highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
The place is a funky music studio that is basically soundproof. There's an outdoor cabin which was super comfy. Birdsong in the mornings and horses and vineyards draped in mist to wake up to. Spencer and Esther were great. Easy, cool hosts that take good care but give you your space. They gave us several restaurant recommendations as well.
Spencer and Esther are great hosts. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and a tour of the property. The main bedroom has a beautiful sound system and is very well insulated so the volume can be cranked up without disturbing Anyone. The secondary room is equipped with the same insulation along with two beautiful pianos, and a ton of artwork unique to their home. The house has a barn with gizmos and gadgets that have an invitation to play with. And make sure you ask Spencer to show you Tesla-Man.
The stay may not be in an entire home but it's okay because the interaction with the hosts that you receive is exactly what you Request.
Also it was nice to receive a list of recommended nearby attractions from the hosts upon acceptance of our reservation.
I would recommend this to anyone that needs a place to stay in the area, Especially if you have a love for the arts. I will return, for a longer stay next time. 2 nights isn't nearly enough-so much to see in the area.
Thank you Spencer and Esther.
I had a great experience at Spencer and Esther's place! Even though it was for one evening, I very much enjoyed playing on the nice piano and the bed was extremely comfy. Perfect place to stay. Spencer was a wonderful host and I will definitely come back in the future.
Esther and Spencer made my birthday trip a treat. Although we didn't get a chance to meet Spencer, Esther gave us a tour and was very kind. I couldn't have asked for a better host experience for my first time using AirBnB. I highly recommend this retreat to anyone looking for a quite relaxing place to stay.
Words won't do this place justice. Simply amazing and beautiful land, home and horses. The sound proof room was a fun way for my partner and I to enjoy making noise without fear of waking our sleeping toddler which was a special treat since we live in a small apartment in the city. Sitting and playing the grand piano was soul-soothing. The host is very kind, respectful and we had plenty of privacy. Lots of small touches and amenities that made our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. The hosts are incredibly generous and this gem is one of a kind. I can't wait to return.
We were unable to travel to Spencer and Esther's home because of circumstances beyond our control that popped up at the last minute. We were so looking forward to visiting them. We hope to be able to reschedule for another weekend soon.
We have lived in Mendocino County for 29 years. We love good food, and exploring unique and different places. We live in the country with a barn and stables, surrounded by vineyards and mountains.
I have been in the music business my whole life and now am a consultant for wineries, an artist as well as a concert/festival producer.
Esther loves horses, connecting with people, creates all kinds of cool art and is a marriage & family therapist.
We both make 'found art' or assemblage sculptures and are always looking for weird stuff for our studio.
