Very nice neighborhood, we felt totally safe. We only saw our host for a couple of minutes when we first got there. Sadly - no guacamole for us.
This a lovely property in an excellent neighborhood close to wonderful beaches. We felt very welcome & comfortable. There are lots of little things to make you feel at home such as beach towels & belly boards & condiments left by former guests so you don't need to run right out to get mustard or things like that. The welcoming guacamole was delicious.
My wife and I spent our entire week in Hawaii on the North Shore at Burt Sutherland's studio home at Pupukea's Avocado Village. We had a fabulous time. I wanted to experience and be proximate to the surfing on the North Shore. His place is centrally located just above the hill where the Foodland is located. Pipeline and Sunset are just a couple miles away, not to mention all the other famous surf spots on the North Shore. The home is new construction, clean, provides plenty of privacy, upscale, and includes security features such as an enclosed gate and large garage. We also enjoyed being close to other vacation attractions, besides surfing, such as Waimea Falls Park, Haleiwa town and the Polynesian Cultural Center. In conclusion, if you want to experience the North Shore like a true local does, than Mr. Sutherland's studio home is probably your best option.
Burt and Nok were outstanding hosts! We could not have asked for a more enjoyable experience. Burt had guacamole waiting for us and introduced himself. Very personable, helpful and informative. We had use of boogie boards, snorkel equipment, surf boards and a cooler to take in the vehicle. We had the pleasure of meeting his golden avacodo retriever (got avocados that had fallen from the trees and in return got a treat) and snowball one of the cats who lives next door is always there to greet you.
Burt was a great host. He and his wife even made us some delicious guacamole and a orange cakes from the avocado and orange trees in his garden. We had a few nice conversations about living and surfing on the North Shore, and the place was perfect for me and my girlfriend to hang for a couple days.

About the Host, Burt & Nok
Nok and I love living here in Pupukea and enjoy the laid back country style living that our community has to offer. I am a retired business owner and an arm chair avocado grower. All of the fruit trees on the property were planted by me and I love giving tours of the orchard. In addition to 11 different varieties of avocado, we have orange, tangerine, pomelo, tangelo lemon, lime, lychee, soursop, jackfruit, mountain apple, brown sugar fruit, starfruit, dragon eye, star apple, dragon fruit, jaboticaba plus bananas and papaya. Nok is an accomplished chef and prepares fresh Thai food for the Waialua Farmers Market every Saturday morning in addition to daily catering. To augment Nok's cooking we also maintain a 2000 sq ft Thai vegetable and herb garden.
