About this listing
This serene and beautiful house is a peaceful place to get away. It is centrally located downtown and is near an extensive bicycle trail and charming park. Great location makes it easy to get to the zoo, Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods...
Charming house covered in snow. We don't get this much snow on a regular basis, but when we do, we enjoy it!
Please inquire about minimum stay requirements June-August.
The house is a stand alone house and is not part of our house, though we live very close if you need anything. I have really enjoyed restoring this house. My husband and I refinished the hardwood floors and the 500sq foot deck. We also built bookshelves, spiffed up the bathroom, stained concrete, sewed energy efficient thermal window coverings to keep the original 1938 windows and keep the house comfortable, and decorated so that our guests feel at home.
Fishing, skiing, hiking, swimming, the zoo, great shopping, historical interests, hot springs, good restaurants, lots of museums are all nearby!
We really enjoy meeting new people, so if you want us to show you some great coffee shops and hang out, we would enjoy that as well--if our schedules allow. However, with short stays it's not uncommon to not be able to meet guests because of schedules. Also, if you want privacy, you've got it.
Established, quiet neighborhood centrally located. Chateau de Kiwi is located in the Roswell neighborhood which was built for railroad workers and their families in the 1800s. The area is rich in history. You may want to also explore The Pioneer Museum downtown or nearby Old Colorado City, shops and restaurants where the capital of Colorado was before it became a state.
There is a bus stop a few blocks away that makes getting around without a car possible.
Chateau de Kiwi is located fairly close to downtown, so it's about 40 minute leisurely walk or a 20 minute bike ride on a great trail. Also, it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the grocery store. K mart and a 7/11 convenient store are also a few blocks away.
Please, let me know ahead of time if you would like to borrow the two adult bikes that I have. (The men's bike is very tall)
Coffee and tea provided.
Beds--the bed in the master bedroom is a queen size bed and is medium firmness/softness. There is an self-inflating twin high air mattress in the linen closet, and there is also a twin bed with trundle downstairs. Also, there is a very comfy couch that I've slept great on.
No smoking please.
No underage drinking on property including on the deck.
No drug use.
Please only use candles in wood burning stove and not wood.
Due to my insurance policy, no pets please :(
Guests assume all risk if using bicycles, and Chateau de Kiwi and owner will not be responsible for personal nor property damage related to bicycle use. Please bring your own helmet for bicycle use.
I will take an extra cleaning fee out of the security deposit if the house is left really messy. I've been very happy with how considerate most people are. I think I've only had to charge an extra cleaning fee once.
The bedroom is Colorado inspired. Baby blue walls and golden hues reflect Colorado skies. Also, original mountain scene art makes for a serene space.
Very welcoming home, host was great at communication, and the house was even nicer than I expected. Excellent experience!
Very nice cabin and bedrooms were comfortable. We had a great stay! Pikes Peak was awesome as well!
We loved Chateau de Kiwi! We're a family of 5 (with a 3- and 2-year old and a 4 month old) and this space was perfect for us. The house was super clean and Kira was so helpful and extra responsive. The yard is not ideal for children, but it doesn't matter because there's a fantastic park right across the street. Chateau de Kiwi was the perfect launch pad for us, as we spent most of our time in the mountains, coming back to the house each afternoon for nap time. I will absolutely recommend this place to all my family and friends.
Kira and her husband are wonderful hosts. They made our vacation great by making sure we were comfortable, whatever it took. I cannot thank them enough! The house was great, with a beautiful view of the mountains from the deck and a playground across the street my granddaughter loved. Traveling with family, including a 4 year old, this home was comfortable and had everything we needed.
Really great home. Very big, has everything you need. Great location too, close to Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak!
I travel all of the world and this was one my best experience of home stay. The views from the deck are stunning. The house is centrally located and right near a bike path - the owners gave us use of the bikes and I rode daily. The house was immaculate and charming. I felt like I wanted to move in! Kira was lovely and stopped by a couple of times just to check in on us. My sister lives in Colorado Springs and I hope every time I go there the Chateau is available.
Kira was not able to meet us given our last minute booking (We had a last minute cancellation from our previous host.). She was prompt to confirm our reservation, and the home was as described. It is conveniently located and perfect for a party of three. We mainly spent our time at the various outdoor attractions (I.e. Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods, etc.), but we appreciated a place to stretch our legs and watch movies at night. And Kira's place was perfect.
About the Host, Kira
Kira has lived in California and Florida, has worked in Texas and Main, and has been most places in the US, but her favorite place is Colorado--at least in the continental US. Provence, France and Gerona Spain top the list for international spots. Hiking 100 miles across the Camino de Santiago has been one of her favorite adventures, and she plans to go back to finish the last couple hundred miles ASAP. In her leisure, she enjoys hiking, skiing, art projects, playing music, gardening, traveling, and reading with her husband. Five things she can't live without are her family, a good book (one where you feel like the author is a friend by the end), artichokes, a good paintbrush, and a new adventure. Her favorite authors are A.J. Cronin, Thomas Moore, and Robert A. Johnson. Her favorite movies are August Rush, IQ, and Last of the Mohicans.
