We had a great time on Saral’s boat. He offered us good price for staying and I really appreciated it.
However there are few things inconvenient.
First, the place is allowed only for the members, not guest. I think that’s why the lady who are managing the whole boat place was not welcoming us. She acted like we were doing something very wrong and seemed very angry at us.
Second, one night, the electricity was off without any notification. We tried to ask for help to Siti(helper), But Siti wasn’t answering(because it was bit late night, so I can understand), so the man who lives next to our boat helped us.
Third, in the guide Saral sent us, the Sampan(small boat) fee is $7(before 7pm) or $10(after 7pm). But the Sampan lady charged my friends $50 per person at night time. Sampan is the only way to reach the boat, so my friends had to pay even though they knew she over charged. I know it’s not really big money but I was angry cos it was unreasonable situation. So one night I fought with the lady, and I paid $10 per person. Next morning, my friend had to leave because of her flight. But the sampan lady refused to come, because she was angry because of me. So my friend had to jump between boat and boat to go on land with her heavy luggage. It’s very tricky if you want to go on land without sampan.
While we were staying, Saral wasn’t in Hongkong, so we couldn’t meet him. I think if he was there, he’d help us, so it could be easier. Plus, without those things, staying on a boat was very nice experience. And I know it’s very hard to find enough space for 4people in Hongkong with that room fee. So I don’t regret it, but I hope that those problems are fixed one day.
Boat was a lot of fun. I would recommend staying there if you're in Hong Kong. The directions to the boat made it very easy to find and the cats on board were very cute.
I lived four days on the boat. Very calm (both noise and waves wise), very cozy. Very special way of living in Hong Kong! Even though there were two more people on th boat, I felt as if I had it for myself for most of the time. The bus connection to downtown Hong Kong is fast and frequent. The village of Aberdeen itself is nothing to shout about (plus, they are currently constructing a metro or so, so it is not at all convenient to walk around), so the boat became the place to sleep, relax and have breakfast on the rooftop, and then I was mostly downtown Hong Kong or Kowloon during the days. Saral's description of how to get there is very precise and useful. Saral is very friendly, so is his helper Citi. Nothing to complain about at all! :)
