Live like a local in this funky, rustic house. Located off the beaten track, away from the touristy part of the island, in a mostly local residential area.

The space
This rustic house is situated a bit out of the village but there are complimentary bicycles which makes it easy to explore the island. There are not many rentals as cheap as this one, but therefor you can't expext any luxury.
There is a living with open kitchen, 2 small bedrooms and a private bathroom with hot & cold water. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove/oven, fridge, coffee machine and all the other necessary utensils. One of the perks is a double level veranda which offers a beautiful view over the neighborhood and the sea, and it's a perfect spot to relax. There is a smart TV (including Firestick, no cable) and Wi-Fi.
Beware that there is no AC, but there are 3 strong standing fans that can be placed wherever you want.

Guest access
The Spoonbill House is the top part of a double level house. Both houses are rentals and have their own entries. A shed near the entrance gate is sometimes used by a neighbor to put up his tools.

Other things to note
Sometimes some friendly neighborhood dogs like to hang out on the porch. If you don't want them around, leave the gate closed.

This is a self service house which means that during your stay it will not be cleaned. There will be cleaning materials in the house to keep the house clean yourself. For stays of more than a week, we offer cleaning service for an extra fee.

Besides the AirBnB fee and tourist tax, there are no extra/hidden fees, like for cleaning.

The house is available for adults only. Discounts are available for stays longer than a week and in the slow season: the right price will show up automatically if you fill in the right dates.

Where you’ll be

Caye Caulker, Belize District, Belize

This house is located outside the main village in a residential area where you live among the local people. It is definitely not the most beautiful area of the island, but if you want to be away from the main hub and want a more affordable home, this will certainly be a good option.
During rainy weather, the streets can be bad with lots of potholes and big puddles. If you're comfortable on a bike or don't mind wet feet when walking this is not a problem. Otherwise this might not be the best fit for you.
Beware that Belize is a developing country and minimum wage is low. This means that few people can afford a house of their own and often more than 1 family live on a property under sometimes poor conditions.

Caye Caulker is a small island and the main restaurants, shops, supermarkets, dive-/snorkel tour operators are about a 20-30 minute walk or a 15-20 minute bike ride away. In the area close to the house are a few small food stalls and the nearest grocery store is a few minutes by bike.
