When visiting Portland, where you stay is critical. You want to have easy access to everything. We have that. Our neighborhood is called "Sellwood-Moreland"- you can look it up online and see why it is such a desirable place to be. You can hop a bus and be downtown in 11 minutes! Our home is equal quick walking distance between 2 fantastic parks. We are also within an easy 15 minute walk to Reed College. We have 4 microbreweries and about 15 restaurants within 4 blocks. We can certainly make experienced recommendations! All of Portland is safe, but Sellwood is super safe. Everyone you will meet is super friendly.
You won't need a car if you stay with us, but we have them available (see below). Mass transit is simple (there's an APP for that- "pdxbus"). The bus stop is a 2 min walk from our home and will get you wherever you want to go. We are also a short distance from the Springwater Corridor which is a great bike-only paved road that travels up the east side of the river.
There are bike shops in our neighborhood that will rent bikes for $55.00 per bike per day. We suggest you use our bikes instead. We charge $8 per bike per day (big savings-you can do the math). This also includes everything you need including helmets, lights, locks, cables, rain gear, gloves, and a bike basket cover. Please note, you will be required to wear helmets when you rent our bikes. That is NOT optional.
If you would like us to pick you up and/or take you to the airport, we are willing to drive you for $25 (a cab will cost a LOT more).
If you find yourself needing to rent a car (like a day trip to the coast or the Gorge), you can rent a 2008 Volkswagen GTI or an ALL ELECTRIC 2015 Fiat 500e. All of these will be MUCH cheaper than a car rental PLUS they are right near where you will be staying!
Other Things to Note
We want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. We would encourage you to eat breakfast with us (since it is free and we have a great cook). We have a ton of books about how to "do" Portland, whether restaurants, outdoors, nightlife, etc. Borrow whatever interests you then rent our bikes and see the city this way!
1) Hairdryer, Towels, Shampoo, and Soap- Yes, we have these for you, leave yours at home and save space.
2) Tea Kettle- Yes, we have one for you along with 40 types of tea. Use it in the kitchen or in your room, your choice!
3) $10 cleaning fee; we wash EVERY piece of bed linen between EVERY guest stay and deep clean the bathroom DAILY because that's what we would want if we were guests. You only pay this fee once and it is included in your booking. :)
4) Smoking is only allowed outside on the front and back porches.
Smoking on front or back porch only.
Other than that, we are respectful hosts and happy people who look forward to meeting you!
The hosts' description of themselves, their home and neighborhood was accurate. The neighborhood was charming and quiet, and it felt safe to leave the back door of our room open over night. Our stay was brief but I enjoyed meeting Kristin who was helpful and friendly. We felt welcomed into and taken care of in her home. After making the initial email contact through AirBnB she responded quickly and was accessible by text or email. The bed was comfortable. Despite the day and night being very warm, the fan provided, without being asked made the room comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
Bedroom, Bikes and Breakfast in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood was our first Airbnb experience. Our hosts Kristin and Kip were very welcoming. They were home when we arrived but even if they hadn't been, they provide very clear instructions about how guests might access their home. We were very happy with the location of their home because we were visiting friends in the same area and it was just a few minutes' walk between the two homes. The Sellwood area is a terrific base for exploring Southeast Portland and also downtown. Buses into downtown are accessible within just a couple of blocks from Kristin's place. Couldn't have been easier and it was great to be able to just leave the car behind. Our visit coincided with one of the hottest weekends of the year, which made it challenging to keep the house and our room cool. But Kristin provided a large fan for our room and that helped immensely. They have also fine-tuned the process for capturing cool night/morning air which made it bearable to be inside. Happily they live on a block with lots of large old shade trees, so sitting outside in the late afternoon was very pleasant. Even though we were just renting a room, Kristin and Kit make their kitchen available to guests which is considerate. Loved the kitty cat and Sunday's apple pancakes, ala Kit, were tasty and much appreciated. A good first Airbnb experience. Thanks Kristin and Kit.
Enjoyed a lovely visit to Portland. I so appreciated the hospitality and comfortable setting. A great cup of coffee greeted me each day. I hope to visit again.
Kristin, Kip and their family made us feel very welcome, and also very free to keep to our own schedule, even though we were sharing their space with them!
To be honest, I'm still thinking about the breakfasts here, and they were so hearty, wholesome and delicious I don't think I will ever be able to top them! Room was as advertised, and Kristin lays everything out for you in a way so that you easily understand how to live in a shared space - which was a first for myself and my husband.
They're also great Portland guides, and their advice is what really made our trip memorable. Thanks!
My first time using airbnb service and sharing a home and must say very enjoyable experience. Would definitely do again. Thanks Kristin and Kip!
We had a very good stay at Kristin's. She was helpful with arrangements before we got there, a good source of information about local restaurants and activities, and enjoyable to talk with, as was Kip, who provided tasty breakfasts and was also helpful with advice about local establishments and activities. The accommodation, in an older house, was excellent for us. It is in a quiet and pleasant residential neighborhood, close to a bus stop that made it easy to get around without renting a car. About a 5 minute walk away is a very nice little business district with restaurants, bars, and a self-serve frozen yoghurt place with an impressive selection of flavors and toppings, and a relaxing lounge in which to sit and eat. Bertie Lou's cafe, a 10-15 minute walk away, has very good food and a good atmosphere. (Anyone staying here who likes gardens and flowers should consider visiting the Rhododendron Garden, about a 20 minute walk away, with a very impressive collection of rhododendrons of course, but also azaleas, dogwoods, and hostas (and waterfalls and ducks). I believe it's free Mondays and Tuesdays, and not expensive the rest of the week.)
In sum, I recommend Bedroom, Bikes, and Breakfast for anyone who wants to stay in SE Portland and is looking for a convenient, friendly, non-luxurious but entirely adequate, comfortable place to stay. Thanks Kristin and Kip for helping to make our trip to Portland fun and successful. I hope we can return soon and will be happy to stay at your house again.

About the Host, Kristin
So you are visiting Portland huh? Well you've come to the right place. More than just a place to stay, we are committed to helping everyone get the most of their time here. We have made a full time cause of learning and experiencing the best of Portland's culture, be it food, nightlife outdoors or any of the myriad of "quirky" events that "keep Portland weird". Seriously, whether here for business or vacation, Portland is too much fun to miss out by staying in a hotel and not knowing what to do or where to go. We like biking, drinking beer, listening to local bands/DJs, going dancing, watching soccer, exploring the wilderness and participating in anything that is new and sounds fun! We enjoy our city every day and want to share that with you.
