When visiting Portland, where you stay is critical. You want to have easy access to everything. We have that. Our neighborhood is called "Sellwood-Moreland"- you can look it up online and see why it is such a desirable place to be. You can hop a bus and be downtown in 11 minutes! Our home is equal quick walking distance between 2 fantastic parks. We are also within an easy 15 minute walk to Reed College. We have 4 microbreweries and about 15 restaurants within 4 blocks. We can certainly make experienced recommendations! All of Portland is safe, but Sellwood is super safe. Everyone you will meet is super friendly.
You won't need a car if you stay with us, but we have them available (see below). Mass transit is simple (there's an APP for that- "pdxbus"). The bus stop is a 2 min walk from our home and will get you wherever you want to go. We are also a short distance from the Springwater Corridor which is a great bike-only paved road that travels up the east side of the river.
There are bike shops in our neighborhood that will rent bikes for $55.00 per bike per day. We suggest you use our bikes instead. We charge $8 per bike per day (big savings-you can do the math). This also includes everything you need including helmets, lights, locks, cables, rain gear, gloves, and a bike basket cover. Please note, you will be required to wear helmets when you rent our bikes. That is NOT optional.
If you would like us to pick you up and/or take you to the airport, we are willing to drive you for $25 (a cab will cost a LOT more).
If you find yourself needing to rent a car (like a day trip to the coast or the Gorge), you can rent a 2008 Volkswagen GTI or an ALL ELECTRIC 2015 Fiat 500e. All of these will be MUCH cheaper than a car rental PLUS they are right near where you will be staying! If you are considering renting one of the cars, please let us know ASAP. They book up fast.
Other Things to Note
We want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. We would encourage you to eat breakfast with us (since it is free and we have a great cook). We have a ton of books about how to "do" Portland, whether restaurants, outdoors, nightlife, etc. Borrow whatever interests you then rent our bikes and see the city this way!
1) Hairdryer, Towels, Shampoo, and Soap- Yes, we have these for you, leave yours at home and save space.
2) Tea Kettle- Yes, we have one for you along with 40 types of tea. Use it in the kitchen or in your room, your choice!
3) $10 cleaning fee; we wash EVERY piece of bed linen between EVERY guest stay and deep clean the bathroom DAILY because that's what we would want if we were guests. You only pay this fee once and it is included in your booking. :)
4) Smoking is only allowed outside on the front and back porches.
Smoking on front or back porch only.
Other than that, we are respectful hosts and happy people who look forward to meeting you!
Hosts were very welcoming. Kip and Kristin were happy to answer our questions and converse with us. The room was very clean and comfortable and the bikes were ready for us (on the back porch attached to the room) when we arrived. This is the first time we have used Airbnb, and we were very impressed with everything. The best part was that we were able to stay in a neighborhood we wouldn't have seen otherwise. We loved the neighborhood and out hosts!
We had a great first experience with Airbnb- and we were glad to have experienced hosts for our time in Portland. Kristin and Kip were highly communicative leading up to and during our trip, and took great care to give us recommendations and basic geographic bearing of the city so we could navigate easily on our own. Our room was comfortable and felt private. Kip and Kristin were also personable and good conversationalists; certainly not a necessity for a host, but would definitely be a plus to staying with them again in the future! In short- I'm glad we took note of all of the previous good reviews, and have nothing but good feedback to add!
The house was great and comfy. Kristin and her husband are incredibly helpful and sweet. They gave us great tips on where to explore, eat, and drink. The neighborhood is nice too. It's quiet and has lots of small places to eat and drink nearby. Everything is 30 minutes to an hour away on bus, so we didn't have to drive at all.
Where to begin?! Kristin and Kip were AMAZING. We booked a few months in advance, and they were great about responding. Once we got closer to our arrival date, they checked in on our arrival plans, and gave us recommendations on places that would be open in case we got in after restaurants in the area closed.
As soon as we got there, they showed us everything we needed to know including bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, bikes, and answered our many questions. In our room, they provided maps, information on the city, and information on staying with them such as getting in and out, wifi, and a bathroom schedule all ready for us in our room. It was so organized, inviting, and really put us at peace. If that didn't make everything wonderful, they sat down with us after we got settled in, and showed us how to route the entire city (INCREDIBLE!). They were extremely efficient in explaining everything, and made it really easy to understand. It was so nice to sit and talk to them about the city, and we got to meet other travelers throughout our stay which was really awesome.
My husband and I had such an awesome time on our trip to Portland, and we owe it all to Kristin and Kip. They gave us so many recommendations (all perfect) for local things to see and do, and they made the entire stay the best possible experience we could have asked for. The description is accurate, and the breakfast is delicious and thoughtful! Their home is inviting and cozy. The neighborhood is amazing. With a short walking distance to the bus system, delicious nearby restaurants, convenient things to do, and the bike path to downtown within a mile (3 - 4 mile total ride), it could not have been in a better location.
I believe Kristin and Kip have made Airbnb an artform. :-)
Charming house. Great hosts. Great neighbourhood. Had a wonderful stay. Thank you.
The hosts' description of themselves, their home and neighborhood was accurate. The neighborhood was charming and quiet, and it felt safe to leave the back door of our room open over night. Our stay was brief but I enjoyed meeting Kristin who was helpful and friendly. We felt welcomed into and taken care of in her home. After making the initial email contact through AirBnB she responded quickly and was accessible by text or email. The bed was comfortable. Despite the day and night being very warm, the fan provided, without being asked made the room comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
Kristen is really nice! The room is neat and tidy. We can tell that Kristen puts effort to take care of the residents. She cares about our experience. She introduced us to her favorite places, willing to offer advices and help all the time. Staying at her place is relaxing and enjoyable. Love this experience:)

About the Host, Kristin
So you are visiting Portland huh? Well you've come to the right place. More than just a place to stay, we are committed to helping everyone get the most of their time here. We have made a full time cause of learning and experiencing the best of Portland's culture, be it food, nightlife outdoors or any of the myriad of "quirky" events that "keep Portland weird". Seriously, whether here for business or vacation, Portland is too much fun to miss out by staying in a hotel and not knowing what to do or where to go. We like biking, drinking beer, listening to local bands/DJs, going dancing, watching soccer, exploring the wilderness and participating in anything that is new and sounds fun! We enjoy our city every day and want to share that with you.
