When visiting Portland, where you stay is critical. You want to have easy access to everything. We have that. Our neighborhood is called "Sellwood-Moreland"- you can look it up online and see why it is such a desirable place to be. You can hop a bus and be downtown in 11 minutes! Our home is equal quick walking distance between 2 fantastic parks. We are also within an easy 15 minute walk to Reed College. We have 4 microbreweries and about 15 restaurants within 4 blocks. We can certainly make experienced recommendations! All of Portland is safe, but Sellwood is super safe. Everyone you will meet is super friendly.
You won't need a car if you stay with us, but we have them available (see below). Mass transit is simple (there's an APP for that- "pdxbus"). The bus stop is a 2 min walk from our home and will get you wherever you want to go. We are also a short distance from the Springwater Corridor which is a great bike-only paved road that travels up the east side of the river.
There are bike shops in our neighborhood that will rent bikes for $55.00 per bike per day. We suggest you use our bikes instead. We charge $8 per bike per day (big savings-you can do the math). This also includes everything you need including helmets, lights, locks, cables, rain gear, gloves, and a bike basket cover. Please note, you will be required to wear helmets when you rent our bikes. That is NOT optional.
If you would like us to pick you up and/or take you to the airport, we are willing to drive you for $25 (a cab will cost a LOT more).
If you find yourself needing to rent a car (like a day trip to the coast or the Gorge), you can rent a 2008 Volkswagen GTI or an ALL ELECTRIC 2015 Fiat 500e. All of these will be MUCH cheaper than a car rental PLUS they are right near where you will be staying! If you are considering renting one of the cars, please let us know ASAP. They book up fast.
Other Things to Note
We want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. We would encourage you to eat breakfast with us (since it is free and we have a great cook). We have a ton of books about how to "do" Portland, whether restaurants, outdoors, nightlife, etc. Borrow whatever interests you then rent our bikes and see the city this way!
1) Hairdryer, Towels, Shampoo, and Soap- Yes, we have these for you, leave yours at home and save space.
2) Tea Kettle- Yes, we have one for you along with 40 types of tea. Use it in the kitchen or in your room, your choice!
3) $10 cleaning fee; we wash EVERY piece of bed linen between EVERY guest stay and deep clean the bathroom DAILY because that's what we would want if we were guests. You only pay this fee once and it is included in your booking. :)
4) Smoking is only allowed outside on the front and back porches.
Smoking on front or back porch only.
Other than that, we are respectful hosts and happy people who look forward to meeting you!
They were very welcoming. Gave us many tips to maximize our visit. The bike rental was a great option. Would highly recommend them to others.
Kristin was great- friendly, accommodating and a wealth of knowledge-Gave us a whole list of places to explore on the coast. The place-easy, clean, and comfortable. Thanks!!!
Kristin and Kip are lovely hosts - incredibly welcoming and helpful. For a reasonable cost, they allowed us to borrow a tent and sleeping bag to use as we camped along the coast, then we rented their bikes to get around in the city. Our room was clean, bed was comfy, breakfast and tea were delicious. The neighborhood was quiet and we felt very safe. They provided us with very useful advice regarding best methods of transportation to navigate the city, restaurant/bar recommendations and connected us with a friend to arrange for a car rental. Overall, we had an exceptional experience.
Kristin was a lovely host, she helped us plan our day trips and gave great restaurant recommendations. Also let us keep our bags there till our flight. So, a comfortable place to spend time in Portland.
Kristin had very easy to understand directions for how to enter her home and where to find any amenities we needed. The neighborhood was incredibly charming and located within easy walking distance to a few great spots to eat, grab coffee, take a yoga class, or have a beer. Kristin rented us bikes and showed us on the map where to go in Portland, and mentioned some of her favorite spots as well. She was very kind, and eager to help. If we travel to Portland again, we would love to stay at Kristin's house.
Kristen and her husband were very nice and accommodating. Everything was as advertised. I spent two days. If I would do it again I would've kept my rental. Taxi cost was $42 one way from the airport. Uber was $35 one way. When I come to Portland again I will stay with Chris's of them if they're available.
Wonderful stay. Great location, great hosts. If you need a place with a good bed, hot shower and close to the bus, this is it. Cute neighborhood too. Kristin and Kip are totally cool.

About the Host, Kristin
So you are visiting Portland huh? Well you've come to the right place. More than just a place to stay, we are committed to helping everyone get the most of their time here. We have made a full time cause of learning and experiencing the best of Portland's culture, be it food, nightlife outdoors or any of the myriad of "quirky" events that "keep Portland weird". Seriously, whether here for business or vacation, Portland is too much fun to miss out by staying in a hotel and not knowing what to do or where to go. We like biking, drinking beer, listening to local bands/DJs, going dancing, watching soccer, exploring the wilderness and participating in anything that is new and sounds fun! We enjoy our city every day and want to share that with you.
