Interaction with Guests
Our approach to airbnb, com is a little warmer and more personal. Click the profile video to the right to see what we're about. We love hosting and have received tons of positive feedback from our guests. Our time is our own, (self-employed) so we are totally open to joining you and showing you the best stuff around or leaving you on your own to enjoy the city! I would say we are completely easy going and have no agenda other than to see you have a good time. If you have any special concerns or requests, click the "CONTACT ME" button to your right and we will do our best to accommodate you.
When visiting Portland, where you stay is critical. You want to have easy access to everything. We have that. Our neighborhood is called "Sellwood-Moreland"- you can look it up online and see why it is such a desirable place to be. You can hop a bus and be downtown in 11 minutes! Our home is equal quick walking distance between 2 fantastic parks. We are also within an easy 15 minute walk to Reed College. We have 4 microbreweries and about 15 restaurants within 4 blocks. We can certainly make experienced recommendations! All of Portland is safe, but Sellwood is super safe. Everyone you will meet is super friendly.
You won't need a car if you stay with us, but we have them available (see below). Mass transit is simple (there's an APP for that- "pdxbus"). The bus stop is a 2 min walk from our home and will get you wherever you want to go. We are also a short distance from the Springwater Corridor which is a great bike-only paved road that travels up the east side of the river.
There are bike shops in our neighborhood that will rent bikes for $55.00 per bike per day. We suggest you use our bikes instead. We charge $8 per bike per day (big savings-you can do the math). This also includes everything you need including helmets, lights, locks, cables, rain gear, gloves, and a bike basket cover. Please note, you will be required to wear helmets when you rent our bikes. That is NOT optional.
If you would like us to pick you up and/or take you to the airport, we are willing to drive you for $25 (a cab will cost a LOT more). If you need a ride once you are in the city (like for something not near mass transit) just ask and we can probably do it for 10-20 bucks.
Once you get here, if you find yourself needing to rent a car (like a day trip to the coast or the Gorge), you have access to a 2005 Toyota Camry, a 2008 Volkswagen GTI or an ALL ELECTRIC 2015 Fiat 500e. All of these will be MUCH cheaper than a car rental PLUS they are right near where you will be staying!
Other Things to Note
We want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. We would encourage you to eat breakfast with us (since it is free and we have a great cook). We have a ton of books about how to "do" Portland, whether restaurants, outdoors, nightlife, etc. Borrow whatever interests you then rent our bikes and see the city this way!
1) Hairdryer, Towels, Shampoo, and Soap- Yes, we have these for you, leave yours at home and save space.
2) Tea Kettle- Yes, we have one for you along with 40 types of tea. Use it in the kitchen or in your room, your choice!
3) $10 cleaning fee; we wash EVERY piece of bed linen between EVERY guest stay and deep clean the bathroom DAILY because that's what we would want if we were guests. You only pay this fee once and it is included in your booking. :)
4) Smoking is only allowed outside on the front and back porches.
We need to be home to welcome our guests, so please be as specific as you can about arrival times and text us if any changes come up during your travel day. We want to make sure that we are there to give you a warm welcome!
Smoking on front or back porch only.
Other than that, we are respectful hosts and happy people who look forward to meeting you!
Kip and Kristin are the super mega version of Superhost! They are both so warm, welcoming, generous, and attentive. I first met Kristin when I arrived and she made a great introduction to their charming house. I also remember her bringing her laptop to sit by me and help me orient myself while I was glued to the sofa from an exhausting drive... She was also willing to exchange parking space on her driveway with me because I was paranoid. It's all the little gestures that count!
Their place is conveniently located only minutes from the bus stop to take a short ride to downtown Portland, but the neighbourhood itself has so many neat shops to check out. Sellwood is super green and safe to take nice strolls in the morning or evening.
It is obvious that both Kristin and Kip really put their heart into ensuring that your stay is easy and comfortable and that you will enjoy Portland! And who doesn't love a free, delicious breakfast? (Thank you Kip!) It was also also super fun to chat and hang out with them both the nights I was staying along with another guest. I felt that I already learned so much from our casual conversations.
Highly recommend! 5+++ stars!
This is a warm, charming, very casual set up, in an amazing location in Sellwood, near lively neighborhoods, yet in a quiet street with mature trees. The room felt tighter than it looks on the photo - not much room around the bed -, the drawers of the dresser on the photo had bike parts in them, and there was another - smaller - dresser with drawers taken up by linens. So not much to get my clothing out of my bag, except for 3-4 wire hangers in the tall dresser/armoire on the photo. The bed is cozy and only 6' long, so I'm glad I was alone so I could sleep on the diagonal. The back yard is lovely and simple, and the french door offer a great green view of it. Overall a great value for a casual and comfy stay in SE Portland.
Kristin and Kip were so incredibly welcoming, helpful, and nice! My friend and I admitted that we hadn't done a lot of exploring in the Portland area, and Kristin gave us a map and suggested cool, little neighborhoods for us to check out. Kip really knew a lot about the restaurant scene in Portland. We were out and about for the majority of our short trip, but we really enjoyed chatting with them both when we had the chance to. They also have a super sweet cat.
The bed and linens were so comfortable, and we loved the natural light coming from the sliding door out to the beautiful backyard. The towels they provided us were soft and fluffy. We drove from Seattle and were happy to find that there was a lot of free street parking right in front of the house.
Honestly, everything was absolutely amazing, and we had a wonderful stay. Thank you so much!
Kristin and Kip were very friendly and accomodating. So helpful getting us back and forth to airport. Very nice neighborhood and shops and parks nearby. Bus stop right around the corner, and into downtown easily. Thanks Kristin and Kip!
Thank you so much for a very enjoyable experience. Kristin was so helpful with not only giving me a map of the area but also filling me in on all the hotspots and the best places to eat. Loved the outdoor patio off the bedroom. Truly enjoyed our cup of coffee before i left.
Kristin was a superb host! This was my first time traveling without a destination that I knew well or had someone who knew the destination well and my first time doing airbnb without my family. And my first time having a host instead of the whole apartment to myself. Basically, I was nervous and had no idea what to expect.
Despite my preconceived notions I had imagined myself to be in, Kristin was welcoming and willing to help my friend and I even before we arrived at her house, giving direction to her place from PDX. (As of April 5th, Uber isn't used in Portland, so I recommend taking her offer of the $25 ride to and from the airport because public transportation will take about two hours).
That being said, the location was awesome. The bus stop was literally two minutes away, and Portland public transportation was on time and efficient. Sellwood-Moreland district has a ton of cute shops, groceries, and dining areas. There's this one sock place called Sock Dreams that's about a fifteen minute walk away, and seriously, all your sock fantasies will come true.
The breakfast was awesome, and the coffee was darn good. My friend, who isn't a coffee person, even liked the coffee. Because we were mainly out during the day, this was the time to get to chit-chat and talk about Portland and what we had done. Kristin and Kip are some cool peeps.
One thing that I found really awesome was that they let us use their kitchen and kitchen tools to make pizza, which can be messy and of course, the possibility of burning the house down. Nevertheless, they allowed us to dilly-dally in the kitchen, banging around making noise and cutting veggies.
The bathroom is clean, they respect privacy, and they want to get to know you!
I highly recommend this stay. Also, take their advice. They know Portland well :)
We have nothing but good things to say about Kristin and Kip both as people and as hosts. This was our first experience using Airbnb, and we were so hesitant at first with the thought of staying at a strangers house, but the two wonderful hosts made us feel super comfortable and welcomed- to the point we started referring to their place as "home"! The room has sliding doors leading to the backyard, so you get good sunlight to start your day right (:
If you have any questions about the city, or just need good tips on where to go for good pasta or see Portland's natural wonderland, I swear these two know everything! I would definitely recommend staying with Kristin and Kip if you are looking for a cute neighborhood and great location.

So you are visiting Portland huh? Well you've come to the right place. More than just a place to stay, we are committed to helping everyone get the most of their time here. We have made a full time cause of learning and experiencing the best of Portland's culture, be it food, nightlife outdoors or any of the myriad of "quirky" events that "keep Portland weird". Seriously, whether here for business or vacation, Portland is too much fun to miss out by staying in a hotel and not knowing what to do or where to go. We like biking, drinking beer, listening to local bands/DJs, going dancing, watching soccer, exploring the wilderness and participating in anything that is new and sounds fun! We enjoy our city every day and want to share that with you.
