The furnished rooms available for use are as is. It is near the Hanford Park and Gerk Arboretum. WiFi is available. I built a second bathroom near the rental room which is functional but needs some cosmetic work and trim as Covid 19 put all repairs to a stop. Use of kitchen, laundry, and other spaces can be arranged. Off street parking. Home owner has cats and has medical knee and hip issues. Long term tenant is living upstairs in the laundry/second bedroom, Ara.

The space
My house is dated to 1919 and is one of the first houses built in Mason City. It is close to the south McDonalds and Homers bar as well as the Gerk Arboretum walking trails. The space for rent is a basement room with one full sized bed and attached bathroom. Sometimes in the spring during heavy rains some water trickles in the walls...I did some repairs and it is questionable if this is still an issue until the heavy rains come again.

Where you’ll be

It is a very quiet neighborhood near a school. I would still encourage guests to lock their vehicles even though it is a smaller town. I find it very relaxing here and I hope you are able to enjoy the Koi pond and hanging swing during warm weather. If winter sets in enjoy the gas fireplace in the sun parlor with a cup of coffee or cocoa. Just a heads up, the cats will be in your lap in this space. I happen to like that, be warned of Tinker the orange cat. he's loveable...but sheds. nicknamed Cheetos for a reason. There are 4 adopted rescue cats that the humane society wouldn't take. I know this is a bit much...and more than I had expected, but I can't watch living things suffer.

I am a hardworking Mid-western woman who enjoys early 1900 antiques, art, history, books, and animals of all sorts. You will find a pond of goldfish, several stray cats that call my house home that are free to roam in good weather. I am in the process of fixing up the house including the resurfacing of the wood floors and adding a new bathroom to the guest area which is the current process. I want to do so much at once, it just isn't in my current financial ability. I installed Polytek flooring around October 14th 2019 to the entire basement. I know remodels can be an annoyance and beg for mercy when rating your stay. The upstairs bedroom/laundry room is rented long term by Ara, please talk to her if laundry needs to be done or entering her space. The room is for one person comfortably.
The old woodwork lets off a unique aroma in humid weather and tells stories about what has happened in the last hundred years. I invite guests to use the kitchen area to cook their favorite dishes. I work a lot and most likely will not be around for much of your stay. This means I most likely will not offer meals. I would absolutely love to meet you when I can and learn what it is that brings you to the area. My cats have the run of the upstairs and I encourage people to not book if they are allergic. The cats are my fur children and are loved.. Please come stay and enjoy the Gerk Arboretum 4 blocks to the south, The Music Man Square, McNider Art Museum, Park Inn Motel or Stockman house by Frank Lloyd Wright. Birdsalls ice-cream, LD Filling Station, Pete's Kitchen, Wok and Roll, The Suzie Q cafe, or Many other local attractions that make the town what it is. Wander around downtown finding your favorite statues when they are on display or venture to Clear Lake's Surf Ballroom where Ritchey Valenz, The Big Bopper, and Buddy played last before the plane, American Pie, crash also in Clear Lake that you may want to see for yourself from the day the music died. It is a collaborative effort that makes Mason City special to me and proud to call it home.

During your stay

Host is available for tips to the city. Host is open to sharing meals or socializing with the renter. There is a private area for the bedroom but all areas are open for use. As of 12.17.2019 the upstairs laundry room is rented by a charming lady named Ara. I encourage communication if laundry needs to be done to get her permission to enter the room.
