NO SMOKING - not in the house or on the grounds.
Parking: In the driveway or on the opposite side of the street. No parking allowed on our side of the street...it's a snow route. Please try to avoid parking in front of the house on the corner across from us. Thanks!
Temperature: Since we are a private home we do not have individual thermostat controls in each guest room. We strive to keep our home temperature between 68-72 degrees year around. If you desire it significantly colder or hotter you will probably want to consider an alternative lodging choice. It is our goal to please most of the people…most of the time. Each room has an adjustable ceiling fan and during the winter additional blankets are always available.
Since I don't work outside the home Breakfast Service is flexible. You just have to let me know in advance what time works for you and if you have any dietary preferences. If you prefer tea to coffee let me know and I will make sure you have a steaming pot available when you wake up.
The common area downstairs, patio and Hot Tub is for everyone’s use so please make yourself at home! Please “use indoor voices” after 9:00 pm.
Please help yourself to ice in the freezer & glasses in the cupboards in the Kitchen. If you take any dishes or glassware to your room, we would really appreciate it if you brought them back to the kitchen. Please understand that this is not a rental of the entire home, but of a large bedroom and private bath, with reasonable use of the kitchen and dining area. The open-plan kitchen/dining area is available for breakfast (provided by host) and snacks or meals (provided by guests), though not for full, cooked meals. The kitchen may be used for making sandwiches and light fare provided by you in case you are going for a long bike ride or hike… please clean up and replace items that are used. The extra refrigerator/freezer in the garage is available for your perishables.
Loaner equipment (bikes, tennis gear and Frisbee golf) is first come, first serve
Sheets & towels will be changed every week & room cleaned and vacuumed . Upon request your room will be tidied daily.
We am usually reachable by phone until 10pm. Emergency phone calls won't ever bother us!
Pets are generally discouraged as our kitties don't always welcome other pets but if you have a special need and your dog is very unobtrusive, let me know. We might be able to work it out
Washer/Dryer available for extended stays, please provide your own laundry products
Check-in is typically after 4 p.m. and check-out is typically 10 a.m. If we don't have other guests checking out of the room then early arrival would not be a problem. Late check-outs are not a problem provided we don't have other guests checking in. Please let us know if you are arriving early or leaving late.
Massage services need to be made as much in advance as possible since my friend who is a licensed professional masseuse has a full time position and works free-lance in the evenings/weekends.
Susan and Todd's home is immaculate. The bedroom is warm and inviting. The bed is very comfortable. They were friendly and hospitable. Breakfast in the backyard was a nice treat. Thank you for the dining and cycling path tips. As this was our first Airbnb experience, Peaceful Haven set a high standard.
Hosts were friendly, informative and accomodating. Our room was as nice as we expected. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. A pleasant experience!
We had a wonderful time with Susan and Todd at their Des Moines bed and breakfast! The neighborhood is great, the welcome was warm, and the house is very comfortable and clean.
Breakfast was both tasty and fun, shared (upon our request) with other guests---who happened to be in town for the same event that brought us there! Susan prepared the food and both she and Todd served. Susan makes wonderful egg scrambles and Todd makes pepper jellies from peppers he grows in their own yard.
Susan recommended a beautiful route for our morning walk, along quiet streets and through a lovely green park area nearby. Susan and Todd love visiting with guests, but also know how give space for those who want a quiet getaway.
We had originally booked our visit for several months earlier, then needed to reschedule due to bad health in the family. Susan communicated clearly and graciously through those changes and in all our online messages.
Perhaps the best thing I have to say is that my wife and I hope to return, should we ever need an overnight spot again in the Des Moines area!
This being our first bnb we did not know what to expect however Susan was a wonderful host. Not only was the room fantastic but the delicious breakfast that she had provided each morning set the stage for our days in Des Moines and made us anxious to return. After a plethora of unsatisfying hotel bookings I highly advise if in the Des Moines metropolitan area to contact Susan for guaranteed memorable experience!
Well I arrives at this most beautiful home filled such peacefulness this was exactly what I needed. I met Susan an absoutly wonderful person, so kind so sweat and made me feel so at home in her welcoming space. This home had everything that I mneeded evn more. I will defintly go again and stay at this lovley most perfect location.
Susan made us feel very at home. The description is very accurate. Nice neighborhood.
My sister and I had a wonderful stay at Peaceful Haven and can't say enough good things about our experience! It was a short stay, but we felt quite at home and at ease in the beautiful home and neighborhood. Susan is organized, detail-oriented and - most of all - kind, welcoming and a pleasure to be around. She makes you feel like your comfort is her number one priority and goes above and beyond to accommodate. Our only regret was not having more time to enjoy the beautiful backyard and other parts of the home!
