Mela's place is great. We felt very welcome in her home. There are lots of great places to explore within walking distance. We did find it useful to have a car. We enjoyed our stay at the Lion Horse very much!

My stay at lionhorse was lovely , mela greeted me at the airport and was very helpful she even made me a snack late in the evening with no fuss at all and after that i went and had a lay down - the house is clean lovely and quaint with a boho feel i like it alot. My room was nice and the shower/bathroom is really big with special touches to the flooring and the sink - i had a treatment called somato from mela and she helped me alot and took away my pain and also the root cause of my emotional pain from working on parts of my body that had trapped energy, mela is very good at what she does and a nice person her energy is light for which i was pleased - another note is the animals loved them and il miss their greetings. Richard is lovely too and made me feel welcome and offered me food and even got me a coconut from the tree as a treat - i had some breakfast from mela her cooking is good i wish i had more juices as they were yummy. One more thing mela helped with taxis and gave me some tips on where to go which was helpful - you are made to feel welcome here and id suggest staying here highly- thank you Mela and richard for a chilled place to stay . X

I really enjoyed my stay. LionHorse was exactly what I needed. Peaceful, serene and relaxing. I wanted a quiet, reflective, therapeutic time. The location is great if you want time to reflect and be still. The sharkhole beach is minutes away. Mela and Richard were great, accommodating and incredibly helpful. The pet family was also friendly. I wanted a space away from chaos so I had a great time!

Mela and Richard are very nice people and their home & surrounding area are beautiful. I loved walking back to their home at night from the bus; the area is safe, and I could see all the stars in the sky and listen to the whistling frogs. Mela went above and beyond for me in a number of ways. On numerous occasions, Mela gave me rides to different parts of the island, which made things much easier for me (I was traveling alone). Since my phone had no service on the island, Mela lent me an extra smartphone of hers, which was very useful for researching travel plans and staying in contact with her when I needed to. She didn't have to do any of these things, but she offered things like this to me, which I greatly appreciated! I agree with other postings; have Mela cook for you - the healthiest meals I ate in Barbados were at Mela and Richard's house. Richard helped me figure out the buses - they leave from the Shark Hole area every hour, at quarter past the hour, to go toward Bridgetown. To come home, just take a bus going to "Sam Lord's Castle." Mela introduced me to a very nice, local beach, and gave me tips on good places to eat. Finally, I loved Lily and Bear - they are two small, sweet, and friendly dogs. They gave me a warm welcome from day one and greeted me every day after that.

Mela and Richard are fantastic hosts. The location is beautiful, right across from a picturesque and secluded little beach. It is walking distance from Sam Lord's castle (which will soon be under renovation, but for now is an urban explorer's delight) and beach. The real treats though are Mela's terrific healthy cooking and body work therapies. She is one of the best practitioners that I've had the delight of being treated by.

Mela is a great host and the house is in an excellent location with a beach across the road. This is a perfect location to escape the crowds and explore the island. The room is comfortable and clean and the house is beautiful. Mela met us at the airport, provided us with a delicious meal, fascinating conversation, and helpful tips on exploring the area. You can walk along the cliffs and find a little beach all to yourself, then explore the ruins of a pirate's castle on the way back

Mela was a lovely host and the room whilst basic was OK for a single person - not sure my girlfriend would have been ok with it - and the location is only suitable if you have a car as buses are infrequent (waited 3/4 hour one day and 1 1/4 hour the next day!). Also there is nothing in the immediate area as far as bars, restaurants or decent shops.

Mela User ProfileMela is a superhost.

I am a Rolfer and Holistic Health Practitioner. I practice and teach internationally.

I work with every body from professional athletes to couch potatoes… but at my place the surroundings are too beautiful sit on a couch!
I offer nature walks on the beach and around the island and WATSU in the sea. Body work and spa treatments are also available.

I teach optimal wellness classes including how to eat and cook healthy and full of flavor meals.

I have collected finishes and decorating ideas for my home from all over the world. I feel each room is an art project. I use color to encourage comfort. I have just planted 1000 lavender and thyme seeds to create a fragrant and peaceful bug free environment.

I love meeting new people and sharing my sanctuary with visitors to the island.

Lion-Horse Lair (I am a Leo born in the year of the horse hence the name) is a dream come true for me. I had a photo of this house on my mirror in Chicago for six years before I moved here.
My house of joy and wellness.
A great place to incubate dreams!
