The Space

Make your visit to Barcelona memorable staying in this fantastic, large, modernist (art nouveau) style apartment with a great patio, walking distance to many tourist attractions and a 13 min pleasant walk to Barcelona´s center!

This beautifully classical place, in the modernism style, is on the first floor of a traditional 19th century building in the Eixample district, very centrally located in an area with great selection of restaurants and bars, close to public transportation and with many stores and supermarkets nearby.

If your group consists of 6 or more people, why stay in a small apartment with insufficient showers, toilets and rooms and no air conditioning in all rooms (a basic need for Barcelona from June to September)? For just a bit more this apartment offers you 4 bedrooms, three toilets, two showers and AC throughout to make your stay comfortable and pleasant!!

It is an 6 min walk to Pl. Universitat (red metro line running north-south), 7 min to Passeig de Gracia, the upscale shopping artery of the city (yellow and green metro lines running east-west) or Hospital Clinic (blue metro line) metro stations. Many buses stop 1-2 mins walk from the apartment.

The apartment is 110 m2 plus 40 m2 for the patio (1185 sq ft+430 sq ft), with very high ceilings with original plaster crown molding (two of them polychrome), and beautiful floors with original caustic tiles. It has been just restored, faithfully following the original floor plan and style, but with an up to date reinterpretation.

The apartment has a bright sun room, a large dining room connected to a large living room, a total of 4 bedrooms, all with air conditioning: two of the bedrooms face the street but double windows with double glass block a lot of the street noise, the other two bedrooms are to the inside and are quiet. All bedrooms have plenty of closet space. It has a total of four double beds all of which can be converted into twin beds, so up to 8 people can sleep without having to share a bed. It also has a fully equipped kitchen. It is not a modern or very big one but has all you might need to cook plus dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee maker, electric kettle, toaster and large refrigerator. There are two full bathrooms (one with shower and one with bathtub) and one half bathroom. There is a washer and a dryer, 3 TVs with either cable or satellite international channels (one TV in each of the two big rooms, and one in the living room) and WiFi.

And the most amazing and unique, the large patio to chill out in the evenings or have memorable dinners. I provide you with blankets and there are space heaters, so even if it´s a bit chilly you can sit outside under the canopy.

The building has elevator and intercom.

We provide you with two pre-paid local cell phones so you can communicate with each other if you break up into groups, 100% cotton white ironed linens, towels, beach towels, table cloths, ironing equipment, slippers/flip-flops (on request), 3 hair dryers, 2 hair irons, shampoo, conditioner, soap, body lotion and assorted toiletries. Also, complimentary Nespresso capsules, tea bags and ground coffee, plus basics for cooking like oil, vinegar, salt and spices…

Note that children/babies of any age also count as one person.

Check in and check out are flexible, except in cases in which there is a group coming/leaving the same day (doesn't happen often), in which case check out is before 10 am and check in is after 3 pm, although you can leave your bags in the apartment.

The whole apartment fits a maximum of 8 people.

Please be reminded that this is an apartment within a residential building. It is VERY important not to disturb the neighbors, so no parties or loud music are allowed at any time, but specially in the patio. Talking in the patio should be limited to near whisper after 11 pm. Also, you can invite over, during the day, one or two guests that you know from before your trip to Barcelona, no more, and occasionally, but under no circumstance there should be overnight guests or anybody who you just met...

  • Beautiful apartment with an amazing outside area to relax in - the pictures are very realistic. There are some really good restaurants close by and good transport links to the airport and throughout the city. Julia is a great host and has thought of everything. Highly recommend!!

  • Very charming apartment in a great location - especially we enjoyed the outside patio on several late afternoons. The landlord (Julia) was very kind/helpful and she attended to any requests we had.

  • Our stay at Julia's house was perfect. The place is gorgeous, with traditional Spanish tiles, an incredible patio for outdoor dining, terrific ceilings. The building has an elevator, so it's easy to bring bags and up and down into the apartment as (website hidden) importantly, Julia has thought of EVERTYHING. The apartment is well-stacked with all of the amenities you could possibly need (dishwasher, laundry, lotions, sewing kit, you name it, keys for each guest) and the location is perfect. The apartment is a very short walk from all of the famous modernisme buildings, delicious tapas, the boqueria, etc. Whenever we needed Juila, she was responsive. Don't pass up this place; it is a true gem.

  • We had a wonderful time in Julia's place. The apartment is beautiful, well-equipped and comfortable. It was perfect for a group of eight ladies with nice bed rooms, sufficient number of showers/toilets and a lot of common spaces. The patio is fabulous and even includes a heating system.

The apartment really had everything we needed and even some "extras" that made our stay even more pleasant. For example, we very much appreciated the blankets and extra candles for the patio, the basic ingredients provided in the kitchen (olive oil, coffee etc.) and the bathroom equipment (everything from hairdryers to pain killers). Also the wifi connection and the mobil phones provided were useful.

The location of the apartment is great, with walking distance to many restaurants, supermarkets and attractions.

Julia is the perfect host. She reacted very quickly to all correspondence before our arrival and provided us with adequate information. She was also very thoughtful and nice during our stay. She welcomed us upon arrival with cava and some home made tapas. She was very attentive to our needs and did her outmost to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

We could highly recommend a stay in Julia's apartment!

  • Julia's apartment was our home away from home in Barcelona. To begin with, she was so warm & welcoming. Breakfast with cava and a smiling thoughtful hostess awaited us. Julia explained every detail of the house & utilities carefully and even left us with 2 local phones; which proved a boon during our visit. She mailed us a list of places to visit & eat at and her recommendations were great.

The house is completely "olde worlde", replete with tiles, chandeliers, painted ceilings & lace bed covers. Lots of character! The kitchen though small was well stocked with cutlery & crockery. There were thoughtful little touches all over, like the towel rails in every bedroom & the safety bars placed near the showers, ample closet place & hangers even for the most fastidious. There were 6 of us and each one got a key.

Best of all we loved the patio and spent most of our time there. (Julia has provided heating & blankets for chilly mornings and evenings)

The apartment is well located. If adventurous, you can easily amble across to areas like Plaza Catalunya, La Rambla & Barri Gothic. Taxis are always available too. There are some wonderful eating places in the neighbourhood, which is a pleasant & quiet one.

I would unhesitatingly recommend Julia's apartment to anyone visiting Barcelona. It is charming, comfortable & convenient & it will be hard to find a better host than Julia !

  • Julia's place is wonderful! She has done a lovely job of restoring this 19th century apartment, and she has filled the home with beautiful antiques. As a group of 6 ages 5-70 we found the apartment to be very comfortable. We were never in each others way. The location is great. A pharmacy and small grocery next door, supermarkets and restaurants in the neighborhood. Barcelona sights all in walking distance or a short taxi ride. The mobile phones were a help. For character, comfort and convenience, we would definitely choose this place again.

  • We had a fabulous time at Julia's flat. It was well-equipped, comfortable, and just what we needed as two families traveling together. The flat was located in a great area. We were able to walk to most everything we wanted to see, and there were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Julia was also a phenomenal host. She sent us an extensive list of recommendations for restaurants and activities before we arrived, met us at the flat upon arrival, was easily reachable, and even scheduled our taxi to the airport when we left. We plan to stay in one of her properties on our next trip to Barca!

  • This apartment is well located for walking to most attractions within 30" and the metro is a less than 10" walk. There are plenty of services close by for markets, coffee shops, pharmacies, etc. but Julia has supplied the apartment with lots of extras which made our stay so comfortable. It has everything that our family needed and plenty of room for 5 adults to relax alone or together. Although it was too cold for us to enjoy the terrace/patio during our winter-time visit, the patio is a huge plus for this apartment. The apartment is decorated tastefully with comfortable furniture and beds, adequate closet space and authentic atmosphere (homey 21st century amenities in an 18th century building).
Julia was an extremely gracious host, very thoughtful in her interactions with us on arrival and her attention to the details in supplying the kitchen and bathrooms. She even dropped off earplugs for our use if the New Year Eve's noise got too loud (it didn't).
The wi-fi connection was excellent and there is a printer for printing out pre-paid tickets to help skip the lines at major tourist venues. She provided two pre-paid local mobile phones which allowed us to make restaurant reservations and to keep in touch when we split into two groups during the day. There are three flat screen TVs in the apartment (which we never turned on).
We highly recommend this apartment for a group in terms of location, comfort and hospitality!

  • Ruim appartement, goede ligging, heerlijk terras. Julia is zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Zou het weer huren.

  • Without doubt a gorgeous apartment and a wonderful host.

We arrived very early (too early for check in), but Julia was there to meet us, and although the property was still being cleaned (we were 4 hours early for check in!), Julia had prepared us a wonderful and delicious welcome breakfast with cava.

Well proportioned rooms, a beautiful outside space, it's made for entertaining and relaxing. We loved our time here, and will definitely be returning to Julia when we come back to Barcelona.

About
Hello and thank you for checking. I was born in Barcelona but have spent half of my adult life in English speaking countries, mostly living and working in New York were I landed 15 years ago for a postdoc in cell biology, and were I remained as an intellectual property manager for an important cancer hospital. Three years ago I quit to return to Spain, a return that was delayed due to finishing the renovation of my house in NY and because of some backpack traveling in South America. Upon my return I spent one year renovating a typical old Barcelona apartment (I just love old places!). Now you can enjoy the fruit of my arduous work! :)
