Thomas was an excellent host during our stay! The house is in a beautiful location, clean and feels like home. Thomas is very accomodating and gave us some great tips for the area. Will hopefully be back again for the winter skiing! Would definitely recommend
Klondike, a 300 years old ancient chalet in valleys of Engleberg... never thought it would turn out to be so heavenly. Frankly, I just read reviews and checked location before booking it but wordy reviews can not simply describe the beauty of Klondike. Just 5 min away from Engelberg, easy access to all the mountains from Lucern region. If you have car.. its the best place to stay and enjoy several adventures. Host is kind , helpful and creative... he makes sure to turn this ancient place into party place. Thanks a lot Thomas for making our stay awesome. Last but not the least many thanks for the Drone film in the mountains!!! Hi 5.. See you next time.
Thomas was an incredible host! He brews his own beer, is a semi-professional beatboxer, and his own permaculture garden. When we arrived, Thomas made us feel at home and gave us full access to anything we could possibly need. After coming in at night, Thomas would start a fire and provide us recommendations of what we should do the next day. Overall it was an incredible experience! Definitely would recommend it to anyone.
We had a great time in Switzerland. Thomas is a friendly and helpful host. Klondike is a great place for a younger crowd to stay in but was a bit challenging for my 78 year old mother. Be prepared to hear noises at night when someone uses the restroom. Since the Berghaus is 300 years old, everything speaks. Overall I would recommend Klondike but only if you are traveling with a younger crowd. Make sure you are traveling by car since it is quite a hike to a town nearby. The setting is gorgeous and right next to hiking trails.
I spent the weekend here hiking the alps of Engleberg and I could not have asked for a better place to stay. This authentic Swiss home gives you the experience you need when traveling to the Alps. Thomas made me feel right at home and he makes a wonderful cup of coffee in the morning. The house has a camp fire grill which was a great deal of fun to cook over and hang out by in the evening. The overall experience was amazing. I plan to come back to the Klondike in the future for another fantastic stay!
We spent 3 nights in Klondike and unfortunately could not agree with the previous positive comments. As a matter of fact, there must be something wrong with Airbnb policy regarding reviews publishing, as we find it hard to believe that nobody from the previous guests mentioned something negative about this place.
The chalet does have some charm, although the photos highly overrate it. We were fully aware and ready to accept all the downsides that come with a house that old, but on the ground it was simply not functional enough for us. And we are not talking about being given inexact GPS coordinates.
The main problems were:
- there is only 1 toilet per floor, situated on a wing of the house that is not heated. After using the WC one has to either go to the kitchen to wash his/her hands – but there is no soap – or go up to use the first floor bathrooms. The flushing system in the toilets is extremely noisy, as there is no WC basin. One use of the toilet during the night wakes up everybody (no exaggeration).
- the common areas are small, dark and overcrowded with too many personal things of the owner. Oddly, it is also the place where he dries or hangs his laundry. It simply did not look, feel nor smell like a place ready to welcome guests.
- the owner failed to makes us feel welcome, not only we were reminded the house rules on every occasion but, on the last night, he literally scared us by waking us up 2 times – around midnight and again around 5 am. He came in with friends, slammed the doors, went up and down the stairs and was unacceptably noisy and impolite.
All in all, we would not recommend this place.
Thank you for you visit in our Berghaus Klondike. We read your feedback and we was shocked about your negativ rating because we asked you a lot of times about your feeling however, because we kept asking if everything was alright . We would have been looking forward too have an answer to solve the problems with you that would help you. We want to make sure you carefully , that we are a simple 300-year old house and not a 5 star hotel but an accommodation which should serve a homely atmosphere. We even have a house rule is the most exactly described how to keep the rooms warm. Sorry, but you have not properly followed the rules and I even orally the information mentioned a few times by not following the information, the rooms were always cold . We have a good decription of the whole house, as well as the GPS data most exactly specified. We would like to make our guests attention , read our house rules exactly, so there are no missunderstandings.
For 20 years experience in the Berghaus Klondike , we have about 10,000 guests with us and they was really happy about the whole stay.
