HISTORICAL NOTE: Air Conditioning in Old Town
If you didn't live in an Italian old town maybe you don't know: thanks to the ancient building methods, walls are thick; this maintains the indoor temperature spontaneously fresh, even in the hottest days of the Florentine summer. Around midday the fan moves the air and refresh it furtherly, while in the night very relaxing fresh air comes from outdoor through our "persiane" (antique wooden shelter for the windows with a special shape; it is a traditional method of indoor air conditioning, coming from centuries ago); so that you'll feel always comfortable without needing to close the windows and turn on an electrical air conditioner.
TIP: Long Stays in Florence
Florence is a good base to live for a couple of weeks and more, exploring Tuscany and Italy with one day trips as a local resident does.
This is because of the following facts:
1) The location of Florence is strategically placed in the center of the main point of interests which go from Rome to the Alps.
2) Regional railways are quite efficient here, and they let you arrive from the Firenze SMN Station to all the big cities and almost all the famous small towns of Tuscany in a short time. For example: Pisa 1 hour, Lucca 1h20min, Siena 1h30min.
3) National high speed trains - so comfortable! - connect Florence and the major cities of Italy in a flash. For example Bologna 40min, Rome 1h30min, Milan 1h45min, Venice 2h. And their price starts from 9 euro for any destination, if you book in advance.
Long stays in Florence have also another advantage: they make you feel the Florentine atmosphere in the most complete way, with all the shapes and shades that different days offer.
About my apartment, Natural Home: it is located in a quiet district of the historical centre, and the Firenze SMN Railway Station is in the centre too (in a busier district). This means that you can catch the trains to any Tuscan and Italian destination with only a nice short walk across the central pedestrian area - I usually do it in around 15-20 min.
Super !
Flavio's apartment is in a fantastic location to explore Florence. The apartment was very clean and well equipped and has a great little balcony that looks over a beautiful street. Flavio and his wife were very kind and welcoming and made us feel at home.
This place is great for a budget travel. It has all the basics you need for a comfortable stay in Florence. The location is GREAT, you're just a few steps away from the Ponte Veccio , super market, garage and coffee bars to grab a quick breakfast. Flavio and his wife were really helpful with us and gave us a warm welcome to their place.
We visited Florence with my wife in March 2014. We stayed in Flavio's place for three days and it turned out to be a great choice. It is a cozy and well equipped apartment.
The place is very close to all important and must-see sights of the city. Flavio and his wife were very nice and helpful hosts. We would definitely come back and recommend this place to our friends!
Thank you Flavio!

Just back from a wonderful weekend break in Florence. Loved the apartment, location and friendly, helpful hosts. Our first experience of Airbnb but there will be more...
Flavio's apartment is in a great location, easily able to walk around Florence but away from the tourist centre of the city. Flavio and his wife were lovely and easy to communicate with. The apartment does get a bit of street noise and the shower takes some getting used to, but it is okay for a short stay in this beautiful city. The room itself is large, the apartment has everything we needed, and Flavio was nice enough to call us a taxi to the station when we checked out.
If one of my friends will visit Frenze, I will strongly recommend this room for him. It will be the best flat for couple who can't afford an expensive hotel but want to stay in quite and neat hostel. The owner was very nice. They gave us useful information and tips. No need to write here anymore. Just visit! and feel comfort as much as your home.
We loved our stay at the natural home! The flat is beautiful, light and airy, very clean and well organized! We found the apartment easily and had excellent communication with Flavio before our stay. Flavio and Yukari live right across the hall which was great and made us feel secure that if we had had any issues (which we did not) they were very accessible. We were provided with maps and a list of their personal favourite places to visit and eat when we arrived. They provided extra umbrellas, guide books, wifi (worked great) and laundry (they have a nice unit in the flat, and a line outside the balcony). The location is fantastic, just across the river from the Uffiz gallery, so a short walk to the centre of town, but just outside the super touristy area. There is a rather steep set of steps or hill to walk up to get to the apartment but we figured it was just a helpful way to justify our daily gelato! The only slight negative for couples are the two twin beds, but that's hardly worth turning down this place for! We would 100% recommend the natural home! Thank you Flavio and Yukari!
We had a fabulous stay at Flavio's apartment! It was a walkable distance to all the major attractions and close to restaurants/groceries etc. Best of all there is a washing machine which was like a pot of gold for travellers who have been on the go for some time! Flavio and his wife greeted us warmly on arrival and provided us with a really helpful map which was greatly appreciated. I would most definitely recommend this to anybody planning on heading to Florence both short term or long term. It really is the perfect retreat after a long day sightseeing!
Flavio and Yukari were the sweetest hosts! As already shared in other reviews, their highlighted map and list of suggested restaurants were incredibly helpful. Yukari, who originally came to Florence for a sommelier course, also wrote us a list of wine recommendations. We are learning more and more to eat only by local recommendation. Definitely go to Zeb if you love food. It's a 5-min walk. Worth every penny.
The apartment is right off Ponte Vecchio, so it was very convenient, but not in a crazy neighborhood. Everything felt saner and more reasonable on the other side of the Arno.
The apartment was lovely. It is a bit unusual to have a shower in the same space as the toilet, but I think it just adds to the experience of airbnb-ing in Italy.
They also called us a taxi and saw us off in the morning. We hope we can return soon to stay here.
