Interaction with Guests
I (Peter) am a photographer and my partner (Virgil) is a writer. He takes care of the food and I take care of the tours. We organize tours by car, tuktuk or minivan, with or without guide, to the Angkor Archeological Park, other temples outside the park, the floating village and the Cambodian countryside. I myself run Phototours to places off the beaten track. Tour prices are available on request. We personally greet our guests on arrival and help them every step of the way in organizing their stay in Siem Reap, whether it be arrange tickets for the circus, the zip line, apsara dancing, massage or cooking classes. At the same time, we believe in giving our guests space to arrange their own itinerary according to their needs. What we believe in is giving our guests as much information as possible about Siem Reap and the amenities available, so that they can best enjoy their visit. Our motto is "Come as a Guest and Leave as a Friend."
The resort is located in a cul-de-sac in a quiet residential area, hence it is undisturbed by the sound of traffic and commercial activity. At night, the resort slumbers to the nocturnal sounds of nature. The gardens are spread out over nearly 2,000 square meters, and with no tall buildings around, one feels one is out in the countryside, yet the resort is actually in central Siem Reap. For the guests' security and peace of mind, high walls surround the compound, with a 24-hour security guard at the gate.
Walking, bicycle, moto (motorcycle), tuktuk, taxi and minivan.
Other Things to Note
Room is available for a maximum of two persons.
The Cockatoo is a lovely, quaint bungalow style place that is less than a 10 minute walk to the old market and Pub Street. Angel was very hospitable and welcoming, the breakfast was wonderful. Though it was supposedly full, we never saw any other guests. Unfortunately, Siem Reap lost power for days and the Cockatoo did not have a generator and soon no water, so Angel moved us to another hotel half-way through our stay. Everything was arranged for us and we didn't have to worry about a thing. It's just a shame we couldn't continue our stay at the Cockatoo.
Peter's house very beautiful and comfortable, we have very happy chatting with Peter:) And Peter's staff Angel was a very nice, arranged the Tuktuk for us, and gave us useful travel advises. Also we liked the breakfast very much, fresh fruit, good Baguette, etc. It's a very good experience of staying Peter's house.
In a city growing as fast as Siem Reap, we were surprised and delighted by the level of service at the Cockatoo Resort. Here, you are not only guests but also friends--a mantra upheld by the owners, Peter and Virgil. Booking eight days on a whim, we had no idea how fast time would fly. Angel, the Sales and Customer Relations Manager, created an itinerary based on our wants and needs. From organizing the same tuk tuk driver, Mr. Ry, throughout our entire stay to locating a gourmet cooking class, Angel did it all! Many boutique hotels and resorts claim to provide these services but often fall short. At the Cockatoo Resort, we felt our voices were heard and our opinions taken into careful consideration. We appreciated Virgil's restaurant and bar recommendations outside of Pub street and Peter's vast knowledge of Cambodia's history. At the end, we truly felt part of their family!
Cockatoo Nature resort was a brilliant place from all the correspondence, to the tuk tuk pick up from the airport, to the warm welcome when we got there. The welcome drink was a pleasant surprise. I loved how we were made to feel at home immediately and the extra touches like a baby cot in our room, even though we didn't ask for one. Angel was an amazing host and we thank her for her help. She went out of her way to make sure all was taken care of, offering advice and arranging trips for us, making it easy for us to relax.
My daughter was unwell and had a high fever one of the days and was unwell and I remember how quickly they helped us and that night the manager, Ariel was giving us new sheets and a thermometer to make sure my daughter was ok. Even the next day, he came back to check on her. They really are amazing!!
I never expected to have such genuinely warm, welcoming and caring people at the place.
The place itself is quiet, clean and its close to the night markets, restaurants etc
We would definitely return here! Oh and I forgot to mention the breakfast was super delicious too!!!
Thank you Angel and Ariel for making it such a special time for us.

Our stay at the Cockatoo was lovely, and Peter and Virgil were very attentive and helpful in creating and implementing a day-to-day plan for experiencing Siem Reap and all it has to offer. The resort itself was perfect: quiet, beautiful, clean, and a delicious breakfast each morning. In addition, the location is excellent; just a few minutes walk from the City Center and Markets but located on a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle. Highly recommend this resort!

About the Host, Peter
I'm a British photographer who loves traveling. I lived in Japan for 30 years and speak English and Japanese. I am the author of a couple of photo books, one on Japan and one on Cambodia. Apart from running photo tours, I run the Cockatoo Nature Resort with my partner Virgil, who is a writer from the Philippines. Cambodia is a wonderful place to visit and our town, Siem Reap is the stepping-off point for exploring the Angkor Archeological Park, the best known temples of which are Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prom. The floating village and the countryside are also very interesting. We can help you with all your touring arrangements whether it be for a 2/3/4 day stay or longer, or whether it be by car or our very own tuktuk. There really is so much to see and do here in Cambodia.
