Lovely little place, and everything went smoothly. Thanks for a great trip!
Anjali's house is absolutely adorable with an antique touch. The kitchen has everything you would ever need. Location is great -- the Mississippi street where all the fun shops and bars is just half a block away, but there also doesn't lack a piece of tranquility in the neighborhood.
No complaints... Anjali met me outside, showed me where to park, showed me around the apartment and let me be. She was always available if I needed her and fixed a running toilet issue as soon as I let her know about it. Location was great as well.
Anjali seemed to me like a veteran host - she was responsive, laid out the rules clearly, and gave my friend and I our space while being available for questions.
The area is awesome, Mississippi Avenue is a fun place to be and I spent a lot of time browsing through books and records, and eating the great food from food trucks.
Overall, a great stay with no major hiccups. I would recommend Anjali's listing to a friend in a heartbeat.
Anjali greeted us warmly when we arrived at the house and provided helpful suggestions for things to do during our stay in Portland. Her kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment which came in handy when we shopped at the Portland Farmer's market and cooked dinner one evening. However, we did have some issues: she texted us just a few minutes before leaving town for 2 days out of our 4 days at her house to let us know she'd be away camping and out of phone/texting reach. She did not leave us with a local backup contact which was really disappointing since while she was gone, a fuse went out that we had to fix ourselves (otherwise we would not have been able to continue our stay since it operated the air conditioning and Portland was in the 90s and the house did not have a single window that actually opened) and the one and only time we used the dishwasher it leaked water all over the kitchen floor which we immediately cleaned up but couldn't use it for the remainder of our stay. The cleaning fee of $125 seemed excessive given 1) the state of cleanliness of the house when we arrived--not filthy but funky and far from immaculate and 2) other Airbnb cleaning fees within Portland were 50-75% less when we did a survey on airbnb. We kept the house clean and left it probably cleaner than when we arrived. The house has shadows of charm from a bygone era but could use some freshening up.
For BACK UP, my very responsive family’s phone number is in the Welcome Letter on the fridge. Also, the letter offers a lot of good info about the house; like internet network/passwords, where’s the trash, how to recycle in Portland and such. When I do walk-throughs at arrival, I show Welcome Letter to everybody. After all, everybody wants to know the internet password!
As for CLIMATE CONTROL, every room has a window that easily opens. We made sure of it when we had the exterior painted a couple years ago. For security reasons, we've set some to open ~ 9", while the bedroom can open ~30". The kitchen has a twin-fan installed in the window & during the summer it’s set on high. There’s a portable fan that can be used in any room. The air conditioner is installed in the living room window and works well. This is the first I heard that he had an issue with the fuse. (I was actually gone less 24hrs to a dance party in the woods. Fun!) I’m guessing the GFCI on the air conditioners electrical plug or the GFCI outlet needed a reset. A simple solution.
The DISHWASHER is 10 months old with all the seals tight. It hasn't leaked before & isn't now. There’s no signs of water damage. Perhaps it was opened mid-cycle and water splashed out.
Some hosts build their cleaning FEES more into their rental rate to have a lessor cleaning fee. It’s a stylistic business choice. We have a cleaning business whereby we clean for many other hosts. CLEANLINESS- We wash all linens & towels as usual. We dust & wipe down all surfaces including interior/exterior refrigerator, stove & oven. Scour the bathroom’s shower, sink, toilet inside and out along with baseboards. We vacuum rugs. We dry mop & follow with wet mot. And on a routine basis, we steam clean of the wood & tile floors. Then, change light bulbs, replenish consumables such as soaps, shampoo, conditioner and TP as needed. Each time we attend to periodic long-term cleaning or maintenance items such as repairs, shampoo rug, wash curtains, attend to landscaping, and quarterly clean furnace filter & change out smoke/fire/Co2 batteries. The Airbnb photos are current & depict the CHARACTER, the eclectic mix of art along with the charm of this well-loved 1920's home. Portlandia producers like it! Many Airbnb staff stay here & like it. I like them too! I've been doing this a long time and I love it! In many reviews, you can read about my dedication to you feeling welcome. So while you are here, please let me know how I can help you make the most of your stay... to your full enjoyment!
Anjali made me feel welcome from the moment my booking was confirmed, reaching out immediately to check my flight details and suggest pubs/restaurants nearby. She was always available and the house was exactly as advertised.
Anjali made us feel very welcome - we arrived late the day of our booking, so she came by the place the next morning when it was convenient for us to give us an overview. The place is very funky and cozy, and has a kitchen full of utensils, dishes, pots and pans and enough basics, like olive oil and balsamic vinegar, that make it seem more like a home away from home. Then there is the neighbourhood. We visited many during our five days in Portland - all with their unique character - but after the end of each day we were glad to come home to this place. The front porch makes for a relaxing reading spot on a warm summer evening - its quiet considering that Mississippi is just around the corner, and full of shops to browse, fun places to eat, sample the beer, and great for people watching. Finally, the transportation system - and Portland boasts a good one that deserves support - is accessible from Mississippi - the #4 bus arrives frequently, gets you downtown, or you can transfer to the MAX train red and blue lines. $5 and you can ride all day, as many transfers as you need (and less for kids under 18 - about $3.60). We would stay again and recommend to anyone interested in hanging out in Portland!

I have such a great time hosting people from all over the world. It's like traveling while staying at home!
What's important to me as a host is that people get the most out of their stay here. Having lived here quite awhile, I am a font of info in a wide array of interests.
I love it when people feel at-home, playful and relaxed. And to see it in action, what more could a host want? For example, a guest wrote in chalk on the sidewalk in front of the house a little road map to my house and pointed to house "Paradise" How fun is that?
As a nano-bio,I am an artist, performer, RN-PhD, investor, entrepreneur, published author, host. mother, and GRAND mother. I love life and love creative expression.
Currently, my focus is upon multi-month leases, though short term stays are also graciously invited!
My property, "Mississippi Fun District", is great place to be in Portland with eats, treats and beats right around the corner. Home is secluded, yet in the middle of it all. Easy to zip around town via walk, bike, bus, light-rail, car.
My rentals are in a duplex, therefore in same building. Same address. When I am not traveling, I spend much of my time in the sunroom attached to the back end of the house and in the art studio at the back end of the property.
My raised beds grow food year around. I am part of collective that share crops. 50% of produce is shared with volunteers and a local Soup Kitchen. You may meet volunteer gardeners and pick up some gardening tips for your own garden!
I look forward to your stay here for your future travel plans to Portland!
