Jan and Peter's space is in close proximity to beaches and hinterland, great for those wishing to explore the area. The hosts were welcoming and attentive to our needs and left some very delicious supplies in the fridge for us. The water used on the property is the best we have t…
Response from Jan:
Dear Elka, We sincerely thank you for your comments, having stayed with us at 'Brookdside', your beliefs, caused us real concern , for we have been welcoming guests since 2014, and yours are the first critical comments we have ever received. That does'nt mean they are not valid. Certainly your comment about spiders was correct we simply had no idea that there had been multiple hatchings, and can only wonder when you were here and talking to us, that you did'nt mention your concerns, for we could have there and then carried out a gentle removal of these little critters to the rainforest, which is their habitat. They come into he house at times of rain, and sometimes to lay their eggs, again in inclement weather. Peter had de-webbed in the week before Christmas, and no spiders were visible. After you left, our pre Christmas guest, gave a fair review, and said 'spiders were everywhere' she was correct. I have waited until now before I answered your review, and have been observing just what was happening, and getting an idea of what occurs after hatching , within a few days thet have de-camped to the rainforest where there are many insects to sustain them. We have never observed multiple hatching before ,and plant to add a paragraph ''that at times you may see a spider, as the adjacent rainforest is their home, and in bad weather they may seek warmth, and shelter.' Regarding cleanliness, we beg to differ, and go to lengths beyond the norm to ensure every surface is washed, and vacuumed. Every pot, pan, eating utensils, glasses, cups etc, are washed in hot soapy water, and drained they are simple protocols, and we do it ourselves, to maintain the standard. All bed linen and towells, ane soaked overnight in an oxy wash solution, before washing, and all bed linen from mattress protector, pllow protectors were washed before you arrived. You were aware that we had not managed to quite dry the heavy white quilt, which was hanging in your laundry, and remained there until after you left. Again it is part of our protocols that all bed linen is washed not just sheets, aand pillow slips. I personally did slip up on one thing , I had just finished all I needed to do in the bnb, and remembered I had not cleaned the inner door, in the bedroom, which is never opened, aand is hidden behind 2 large shutters. I took an old mug, collected a wipe, on my way to the laundry, to get some cleaner to return to finish the door, which I had missed. A friend called it was post Christmas, they stayed you arrived , and it was only that evening that I remembered the cup still sat on the chest of drawers, and the shut door had not been attended o as had been intended I do apologigise for that omission. We cannot change how rainforests smell, after rain there is a very earthy smell, to us it smells of richness, and fertility, and what is external, becomes part of the whole environment. I can't comment beyond that . No former guests have ever commented, most have written they loved it. A case of each to their own I would guess. Both Peter and I regret that you diid not when talking to us mention, spiders as said we could have easily relocated them. Mustiness, we use lavender, tea treeoil, and euchaliptus oil when cleaning, and we could have sprayed the area, which would have temporarily masked the smells of the adjacent forest. We sicerely like our guests to have very happy memories of all we offer, and regret we fell short in your estimation. We wish you everything of the best, Jan and Peter Fleming.
Beautiful, big rooms with plenty of space - a great place to relax and lie with a book or five and enjoy the local flora (and fauna!). Everything was easy to use and the food was just gorgeous. The area is one of the most beautiful in the world (despite the near constant rain we …
