  • First of all i just want to say thank you! The hospitality Iilka and Hans gave us wasgreat. When we got there Hans greeted us kindly aanswered every question we had. He also gave an introduction to the place. The place is about 1, 5-2 hours from downtown by walking which we did, because if you want the full experience of San Francisco you all should walk. There is a bus just around the corner of balboa street that takes you downtown. I read that someone complained about noises from upstairs, but what can you expect? They live there and have a small dog that runs back and forth. They have a cat aswell and here might be the minus point not that they have a cat of course, just that the smell you will get from walking in on ghe front door to the house. It's a very distinguished smell that is not very nice. But otherwise thank you for having us once again!/Martin and Sara

  • Actually we didn't meet Ilka, as we were gone most of the day, but she seemed like a nice host. The room was really cozy and in a nice neighborhood. It was close to Golden Gate Park, but unfortunately we didn't have the time to visit there. We had some problems with buses, as the time we were there seemed to be quite popular. It took 1h 20min to get back from Fisherman's Wharf. This was our first Air bnb experience and mostly it was a really nice one. The biggest problem was soundproofing in the house, which was really bad so we could hear all the noises coming from upstairs.

  • Ilka was a wonderful host! Her studio apartment is quaint and perfect for what we were looking for since it is in a residential area a short bus ride away from tourist central. We were exhausted from a long night of traveling and found the bed to be very comfortable. From the studio you can walk to many restaurants (you will be in for a treat if you love delicious and cheap dim sum) as well as to Golden Gate Park which holds a science and art museum (the science museum was great!). We never met Ilka due to being on different schedules, however she was available by text and was very helpful with answering questions. We would highly recommend staying at her apartment when you visit in San Francisco.

  • Ilka was a great host. She and her husband are very nice people. The room was just as described. Free internet access and easy to find public street parking were certainly major pluses. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone visiting San Francisco and would certainly return again in the future. Thank you!

  • Ilka and her husband Hans (I hope I have the correct spelling) were wonderful hosts. We didn't see Ilka at first as she was away but she had left lots of pertinent information which was really useful for newcomers to San Francisco. Her husband called by to introduce himself and gave us lots more tips, including how to get cheap tickets for a Giants game. The studio is close to Golden Gate Park and one of the main streets in San Fran which takes you from one end of the City to the other (Geary) so navigating was easy. Haight Ashbury is a 10 minute bike ride away and The Castro about a half hour bike ride. Walking is much longer and not the best option for getting around the City as it is so big. One day we walked from Fisherman's Wharf back home to our studio near Golden Gate Park and it took over an hour and a half. We were lucky enough to have been lent 2 bikes which made exploring the city fun and easy - sadly these were stolen the day before we left which we felt terrible about. Bike theft is common in any city, no more or less in San Fran, it is just unfortunate it happened when the bikes didn't belong to us as it meant my insurance policy wouldn't cover them. It happened in a busy tourist area on the main road by Pier 23. I guess no one noticed as it was so busy - not with static people but lots of people waking to and from Alcatraz Landing, Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39. Whilst disappointed, Ilka was very gracious when we reported the theft and we will co-operate fully with anything we can do to help soften the blow. We loved our stay in San Fran and the fact that we had such a lovely space in a safe neighbourhood to return to each evening made it even better. I would not hesitate to recommend Ilka and Hans' studio to anyone looking for a stay in San Fran.

  • We had a great 5-day stay here over Memorial Day weekend. Ilka and her family were fabulous hosts; the studio is lovely, clean, and exactly as pictured; and the location - just a 5 min walk from GG Park - is excellent. There are many delicious restaurants in the neighborhood and a grocery store only a few blocks away. It was a perfect little get-away and and great spot from which to explore the city.

  • We had a wonderful experience staying at Ilka's apartment in SF. The location is very good for those who are thinking of having a vehicle as parking is free in the area (just make sure to look for the street signs for street cleaning!) The room has a private entrance and is easily accessible. The room is located right under Ilka's kitchen so some noise can be heard in the AM but they do their best to minimize it, so it was not an issue for us. The room comes with a refrigerator and microwave which was very convenient. Overall, we had a great experience and hope to be able to stay with Ilka again next year when we return!
