Interaction with Guests

I stay upstairs and we have different entrances, on opposite ends of the house. Other than giving you the keys, and a brief virtual tour of the community. We usually don't see each other, unless its in passing. :)

The Neighborhood

After living in Los Angeles, a city of 14 Million people, for 18 years, I've really come to love Lakeside. No hustle and bustle here. No concrete jungles. The peace and serenity it brings to one is unlike any other place I've come across in Ohio. The gorgeous gardens are absolutely breathtaking. The cottages are unique, and meticulously maintained. The people are down to earth and friendly. Children are safe as they wheel their bikes through this 15mph ' slo go' magical kingdom. My ultimate favorite is watching the sun set on the Pier. It is TRULY, the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen! PINK sunsets unfold, as dusk falls upon us. I'd love to share this God given gift with you.

Getting around

Inside Lakeside, there are bicycle and golf cart rentals. FUN!
There is Ottawa County Transportation Authority which is a door to door, appointment only, bus line.
And also various cab and taxi, LIMO services, to and from all major cities, destinations, and airports.
There are many charter fishing boats available, ferries to and from the islands, jet ski rentals, and even a water taxi to Cedar Point.
There is also the Erie-Ottawa Airport, that just became International recently, with its first flight to Canada.
How''s that for transportation? :)

  • Had a great time at Lakeside the 4th of July weekend. Elizabeth (email hidden)e cottage is a short walk to the pier and all the activates. The accommodations had all the basics and worked out perfectly for our 3 night stay.

  • Elizabeth was a wonderful hostess who made sure that we had everything we needed. She was very concerned when the place was left a mess by the previous guests - but honestly we couldn't tell! She had stayed up late to get the place ready for us.

We occupied the back part of the cottage (Elizabeth has the upstairs) and never heard her once. Again, she made sure we had everything we needed - including our privacy! She is also very knowledgeable about the "do's and don't's" of the area since she is a local. The cottage itself is more like a home than a hotel - and half the cost! The full kitchen saved us money by eating in, too. The only real amenity we needed was wifi, and it worked perfectly. We would definitely stay in the cottage again as it had everything we needed and look forward to our 2016 trip to Ohio.

As far as Lakeside itself is concerned - wow - what a break from the rat-race of the Washington, DC area. We were two blocks from Lake Erie, including the pavilion, the dock, picnic area, the donut shop, and the restaurant. Lakeside is beyond words - you really have to experience it to understand what I mean. If you are looking to get away for a few days - this spot and cottage are perfect. You do have gate fees that you need to factor in to your budget, but even with those fees we beat hotel costs. And the fees give you concerts every night in the pavilion, as well as access to the grills in the park, shuffleboard, fishing, and tennis courts. We rented bikes - but you can easily walk around, too. All in all, what a great trip.

Thank you so much for your patience! You were truly great guests! I would love to see you all, including your wife, in 2016! All my best!

  • All the basics there. Good location within Lakeside with off the street parking which is important in Lakeside. Elizabeth was a wonderful and attentive host.

  • I absolutely loved this little cottage. This is by far, one of the best areas, in which to stay. Elizabeth is an amazing host encompassing all of the knowledge and information about activities in the surrounding area. The room was perfect, with all the amenities you need; plus extra” goodies”, in the fridge for breakfast- mmmm... The location is only a few blocks from the dock, or, "pier"; where the sunset over Lake Erie is magnificent! The community is very family oriented; so bring tennis rackets, Frisbees and basketballs! They have two tennis courts on the property along with “putt-putt” golf course, basketball courts, shuffle board, and a little theater, along with bike rentals. There are also really quaint shops…My favorite place was the coffee/ice cream shop- only two blocks down… This was part of my daily excursion. It was such a pleasure to meet Elizabeth, and have the opportunity to stay at her cottage! My Son and I had an absolutely, wonderful time. I do believe we hit most of the activities on Elizabeth's recommendation list. We had an absolutely wonderful time!

  • Elizabeth is an excellent host & provides plenty of information about the region & the lakeside community. She even filled a fridge with breakfast goodies for us! We arrived pre-season & were lucky to avoid gate fees. The community was still about to prepare for summer, but strolling along the lakeshore was very nice. We enjoyed our stay at the cottage! Thanks again! Sabine & Silvio

  • Elizabeth (email hidden)! The room was clean, well presented, and provided all my wife and I needed to enjoy a weekend on the islands. The community of Lakeside is beautiful and provides a lot of unique entertainment opportunities. Elizabeth was very respectful of our privacy and went above and beyond to ensure we had anything you would have at a normal hotel. You cannot beat the price as well!

  • My wife and I stayed at the Swan Lake Cottage for our 20th anniversary getaway. It was perfect for the weekend as a place to relax and bike around the peninsula. We were here on the off-season so it was very quiet and peaceful. We rented the room and bath for three days and felt like locals as part of the campsite cottages.

Elizabeth was an excellent host taking care of us and helping us to find places to eat and make sure we enjoyed our stay. Every detail was covered in the room - information on the area, bath and shower items, as well as coffee and tea. She even provided a fresh fruit basket. Because this was an anniversary getaway, Elizabeth took the time to set up a bottle of wine and two glasses as well as a pack of chocolate truffles.

I chose the location because it was remote, but within proximity to CedarPoint. Even on the off season there was plenty to do in the area regarding sightseeing - Sandusky/CedarPoint, Port Clinton, or Kelleys Island. We recommend taking a bike to tour the beautiful area and capture a sunrise or sunset on film.

My wife and I thought the bedroom and bathroom were an appropriate size for the cottage type of structure. This added to the quaintness of the area in staying in an original cottage structure. It (email hidden) to relax from a day of sightseeing. There is an outside patio area allowing one to just sit and read, soothed by the amazing sound of wind blowing through the tree leaves.

This was a great memory for a first time visit. We fell in love with the area as it reminded us of Mount Olivet or Mount Gretna in Pennsylvania (another Chautauqua). We would definitely recommend the cottage and look forward to any chance we have to revisit Lakeside.

    September 2013
  • We had a lovely stay at Elisabeths cottage. The kitchen was fully equipped and she even has a barbeque you can use. My kids enjoyed the splash park and the playgrounds a lot. Lakeside is a lovely little town to walk around in and the sunset is amazing. Elisabeth was very helpful whenever we had any questions.

    September 2013
  • Elizabeth was super nice & very accommodating! It was a quiet little town and it was nice to explore other areas of Marblehead other than Lakeside. We had fun going out to Kelley's Island for some bar hopping & I recommend the East State Park for the beach, instead of the tiny Lakeside beach! Expensive little town as well, so it was great that Elizabeth let us use the kitchen to cook and store our food! Great for a long weekend :)

    August 2013
  • Elizabeth was a thoughtful and considerate host. Her little cottage is in a prime Lakeside location, and so everything was within easy walking distance and we could always retreat and relax at the cottage anytime. It was nice to have the whole kitchen available to us and our own refrigerator too.
