Recommend: Voula
--La Fontania; For morning coffee or a sedate sundowner.

--Restaurant Ballaro; for very inexpensive top quality Italian food.

--Vitale; for an excellent snack.

--Il Vero; excellent inexpensive Italian.

--Kebabtzidikon to Gnision; excellent Greek Salad and Souvlaki.

--Notos Café; It is an all-day cafe placed literally by the sea. It is ideal for families and a good meeting point for friends and couples. You exit the complex via the beach gate and walk along the promenade.

Recommend Glyfada: 10-minute by Uber or cab approximately €7.
--To Barbounaki; 48 Leoforos Diamrchou Metaxa Agelou, Glyfada: excellent fish restaurant, you can't beat it for atmosphere, hospitality, and value for money.

--O’Proedros; Savva Laxaridi 3, Glyfada, highly recommend this restaurant for traditional Greek food, excellent carafe wine. Set in beautiful gardens, it serves one of the best souvlakis in Athens.

--Ark; 2 Labraki Grigoriou, Glyfada. I have been several times in Ark, and I never tire of the sea-view the beautiful and tasty cocktails and the fun atmosphere with friendly staff. The prices are reasonable.

-------Recommend: Vouliagmeni (10-minute drive Uber approximately €7)

--Moorings; offers you a stunning location set on the sea front, friendly service and excellent food.

--Ithaki Restaurant, for many Athenians, this is what Greece is all about!!!! Serving fantastic food with a breathtaking view, it's an expensive restaurant but if you want stunning views and a luxury night out worth the money. Personally, I love the sushi. Overall a great experience!!!

--For an extra special night, I recommend Island Club in Vari (20- minute drive). Book for dinner (request a seaside table and then dance the night away under the stars and on the seafront. Otherwise, if you prefer you can enjoy dinner at one of the many local tavernas and then end the evening at Island clubbing.

Beaches:
--Voula Beach: A peaceful beach to walk early in the morning or swim late in the afternoon with beautiful views. On this stretch of beach, several companies are running their bars and beach facilities the main entrance is at S Beach led by the municipality where you pay an entrance fee during the week €4 adults 3€ children.

--Astir Beach (10-minute drive) €15 entrance including sun loungers and umbrella.

Athens premier beach resort with a small temple to Apollo located on the grounds of the Beach Resort, which offers cabanas, cafes and some water-sports. There are also some restaurants and tavernas on the Kavouri side, on the sea, some expensive and some not.

--Varkiza (10 min drive or you can walk along the promenade) is a lovely seaside town in the south of Athens, on the way to Sounion. Its beach is sandy, well organized and very popular in summer.

--Vouliagmeni beaches (10-minute drive) offer all types of beach facilities. Tennis and volleyball courts, play area for children, water slide, individual cabins and a restaurant are some of the features that make the area quite popular among Athenians.

--Balux Beach: Glyfada (10-minute drive)
The new kid on the Block hip and happening, lovely food and polite staff. Sandy beach, beautiful sunset, and sea. Good place for a romantic candlelit dinner, dancing late into the night with good music or just finishing your day with a cocktail.

-----There are many bays to explore on route to Cape Sounio, but I recommend Legrand Beach: Cape Sounio: Legrena beach located along the coastal road that leads to Cape Sounion. It is the last beach before reaching Sounion and some meters further lies the Temple of Poseidon. The long beach stretches for many meters surrounded by a protected cove with rocks. The water is crystal blue and the beach unspoiled. There are many taverns and cafeterias in the wider region, where you can enjoy local food by the sea. The access is easy with public buses or car.
You can walk up the side of the hill to Sounio to witness the sunset, or you can drive from the beach up the hill road.

--Cape Sounion is truly a fantastic site that should not be missed during your vacation in Athens. This beautiful rocky promontory rises out of the Aegean and is renowned for its sunset viewed from Temple of Poseidon.

-----The Greek Islands of Aegina, Angistri, Poros, Hydra and even Spetses are close enough to Athens to go to for the day either by car ferry, high-speed catamaran, flying dolphin or on the traditional Saronic Island Cruise which goes 364 days of the year

------The central neighborhood of Kolonaki is one of the oldest districts in Athens, and a must visit if you love to shop or want to spend a relaxing day people watching while sipping a Greek coffee. Despite the economic crisis, Kolonaki has seen a new wave of designer shops, café’s and restaurants emerge, which are upheld beyond the tourist season by its affluent residents.

From art galleries, luxury brands, hip boutiques and shoe emporiums, what I love about Kolonaki’s recent renaissance is the variety of international labels and with impressive independent Greek designers appearing more and more around the district, bringing a bit more edge and color to the area.

Shops are spread around this district, zig-zagging up and down small laneways, making it hard to navigate on foot in one day or afternoon. Depending on what you’re hoping to find, it may help to earmark a few streets or stores in advance from our detailed guide below.

Voula, Greece

Voula gives you the option of staying by the beach or going into Athens City Centre to see the sites and experience the city atmosphere.

I have known Voula since I was a child with many memories of beautiful days enjoying the local food with my family and playing on the platia (square). In my youth, Voula was a seaside neighborhood of small houses and cottages with gardens and a little downtown area. Over the years Voula situated on the Southeast coast of Athens has grown to be one of the most dynamic suburbs of Athens without losing its character.

Short and easy walking distance to the sea and beach. On the doorstep of a wide range of restaurants, shops, bakeries, cafes and wine bars. Voula has easy access to Athens city center, the Acropolis, museums, and the Plaka by public transport (bus or tram) or by Uber which, is only 25 minutes and approximately €15.

Right opposite is a supermarket, pharmacy, massage center, yoga center, cake shop and a wine/tapas bar. But my favorite of all is the organic vegetable, fruit, juice, and coffee bar. You can collect your takeaway coffee and sip it by the pool as you let your morning drift away. Walk on up through the village to experience much more of Voula and the local Greek hospitality.
