i spent a month in lucas' apartment, and, after a somewhat rough start, it ended up being a great experience.
you stay here for three things: the location, which is perfect, in the heart of the born, surrounded by cafes, museums, and restaurants, as well as a short walk to the beach; the unobstructed views, which are beautiful, from the mountains to the sea; and, the roof deck, which is like being in your own private bird's nest, looking down on the rest of the city below. it's also worth noting how private the place is, which i really appreciated, since i was working on a writing project.
given all those significant positives, it's with reluctance that i feel a need to mention some of the less agreeable parts of my experience. first off, despite confirming everything immediately before my arrival and following lucas' instructions, when i arrived at the meeting point, i got a call from him saying that he was an hour away. needless to say, despite the fact that he had left me a message while i was on the plane (which i didn't get until later), his inexplicable tardiness was very frustrating after a long day of travel.
more frustrating was the fact that, despite paying the cleaning fee in cash upon arrival, the apartment was not clean. true, the sheets had been changed and the sink seemed to have been wiped down, but otherwise, the place was dirty -- not disgustingly so, but definitely not clean. to cite just a few examples: the floor left my feet completely black within minutes of walking around; the toilet, refrigerator, and microwave all had food particles and/or stains from previous guests; the coffee pot was moldly. when i notified lucas of the issues, he apologized and attempted to do the right thing -- which i appreciated -- by offering to send the cleaning person back to try again. however, by that time i had already given the place a thorough cleaning of my own, so there was no need.
lastly, unfortunately i also have to mention a few inaccuracies with the listing. when i was there, there was no TV or DVD player. i didn't really care, since i don't watch much TV, but since most people do, it's worth noting. likewise, the heater did not work, which was an issue the first night, since the apartment was cold. fortunately, after that, the weather warmed up, so i didn't need it for the rest of my stay.
bringing things full circle, once most of the aforementioned issues were addressed, i quickly fell into a comfortable groove and would have been more than happy to stay longer. further, despite the initial issues, given that in the end the positives definitely outweighed the negatives, i would stay there again.
This flat is really something! The view, the terrace and the placement in heart of the city! Everything is awesome despite that you are gonna freeze by nights (during winter), TV-antenna is not working and the toilet is in the same room (actually, the whole flat is basically, one room), and the shower is really tiny. 4th floor is really-really high, so you are going to spent a lot of time in the flat if you just came back from your promenade. No wi-fi unfortunately.
But still this is my favorite City in the World, beautiful gothic Born, few minutes walking from every spot you could want to visit. Bars, cafes, supermarkets, everything is in the hood. The placement is really-really awesome!
This place is absolutely gorgeous. A great (small) nest of privacy with picturesque views of Barcelona right in the heart of the most charming and historic neighborhood. If you just stay there you are already having a great experience of this wonderful town.
The whole neighborhood has water problems, and this place is no exception. If you like to shower daily you'll need to be patient, flexible (mentally and physically), and fast. But, i enjoyed so much everything else. Everybody involved in the process of getting me there was friendly, accommodating and honest. I would go again tomorrow if I could.
Also rundum gut bis sehr gut!
Great little apartment. Awsome views from the terrace. Lucas was very helpful. Be aware of the stairs, there is a lot of them, but once your are up it is wonderful.
Studio Born is outstanding. The location is in a great historic neighborhood within walking distance of many of the places you’d want to visit in Barcelona, and it’s close enough to the Metro for the rest.
The room is tiny, but ingenious design makes everything work. Four windows provide views all-round, an abundance of natural light and a refreshing cross-draft when open. The private rooftop terrace is an absolute bonus for its 360-degree views of Barcelona -- there isn’t a higher rooftop terrace around -- and it effectively doubles the living area.
Being able to make our own morning coffee and to make, (email hidden)-heat, some of our meals from nearby Santa Catarina Market gave us the opportunity for greater independence and economy, not to mention healthier eating and unbeatable rooftop dining experiences.
The number of stairs to the studio was at first a daunting prospect, but in practice they turned out to be no problem for this reasonably fit couple in our 60s. The fold-out bed is very comfortable. The water pressure is an issue, but it requires only a little patience.
Lucas couldn’t have been a better or more reliable host, greeting us perfectly on time, and for the next three weeks he was extraordinarily communicative and helpful.
Lucas' apartment made our stay in Barcelona perfect. Yes there are a lot of stairs, but they are 100% worth it for the magnificent view at the top. The apartment is the perfect size for a couple and is very tidy. I highly recommend it!
