Thanks for checking out the "Private Suite in Midtown Bungalow".
The Bungalow was built in 1920. The year that Jazz blossomed, Art Deco peaked and so did Prohibition and "the Flapper". Good times!
The suite offers nice linens, towels and a relaxing atmosphere in a very private space located upstairs away from other rooms in a slightly large but sweet bungalow in the historic Evergreen District, five minutes from downtown and within walking distance to the Levitt Shell, Overton Park, Brooks Art Museum, the Memphis Zoo, Overton Square and the Cooper-Young area as well.
The suite has an attached private bathroom w/ shower and bathtub and also a ceiling fan directly over the bed and a desk as well. There are racks for your suitcases and a closet ready for your clothes. The bathroom has several drawers to store your toiletries in for easy access.
There is a cabinet in the bathroom with a green glass handle that has several lotions, sunscreen, shampoo, etc for you to use if needed.
There is another room downstairs listed under "Vintage Room for Solo Traveler" I only open that listing occasionally but just wanted to mention that there might be other folks staying here during your stay from time to time.
You can park in the driveway right in front of the entrance and the keychain has a push button flashlight for ease and of course the porch light would be on if you arrive in the evening.
Overton Park is a few blocks away and is a great place to walk if you want to stretch after a long drive. There is a FREE concert series coming up in mid May. This is an incredible venue and all the concerts are amazing as well. They are Thursday -Sunday. Just walk down the street! Search the Levitt Shell for information about that.
If you read reviews that mentioned breakfast it's probably because the guest paid extra or stayed for several days and I included a light one on their last day.
If you would like a full breakfast with fresh squeezed juice, fresh flowers in your room and daily baked homemade cookies. Please search the Memphis airbnb listings again under "The Dandelion" and make your reservation there.
Whatever choice you make, I'm sure you'll be happy.
If you're vegan, let me know in advance. It's nice to know for restaurant recommendations or if I need to make almond or walnut milk.
Feel free to stretch out, put your feet up, grab a book, wrap up with a throw in the living room or library. It makes me happy to see my guests feeling comfy here. That's what makes airbnb stand out from hotels right? and yes, cliche as it sounds. Mi casa es su casa!
re driving, I offer my navigation system to make it easy to get around the city. It's a pretty easy city to navigate anyway but every little bit helps.
If you're without wheels you can take "Memphis Hop". The trolley is great but it's limited to where it will take you. This service will take you to all major attractions and offers discounts as well, it's kind of a win-win. You can catch the shuttle down the street at Overton Park.
There are walkable music venues near here such as The Hi-Tone, Stonewall Hall and of course The Levitt Shell. Also there are some eateries, a great gift shop and a yoga center as well and more. Keep in mind that wed-sat offer better music choices.
As far as interaction. If you come in after a night out and I'm in the kitchen, it seems rude of me not to ask how your night went. So I usually do but I have no interest in monopolizing your time. It's not that I don't enjoy chatting with guests, I do but I feel I'm pretty good at reading people and would hope you could do the same for me as well. Yes, we hosts enjoy our guests but also are on our own programs as well at times.
Feel free to ask me any questions. Hope to see you in Memphis :)
Staying in Taryn's lovely home was such a great experience! First of all, the house and neighborhood are both gorgeous. I felt very safe parking my car and walking to breakfast. It's also close to every tourist attraction, driving-wise. We joked that everything we put in our GPS was only 11 minutes away! Second, Taryn is a great host. I felt very comfortable staying with her. Our room was immaculate and extremely well-decorated, and she even made our bed and refilled our water every morning. It's like staying in a private hotel! We spent some time chatting with her during our 4 day stay, and she gave us great recommendations for restaurants and bars, and we seemed to have a lot in common. Also...I am on this annoying low-carb diet (which was HARD to follow in Memphis!), and I was determined to keep it quiet so as to not be "that" dieter that can talk of nothing else. But eventually we discussed it because we're both food lovers, and lo and behold...on Sunday morning, Taryn made me a veritable FEAST of low carb goodies, and made a separate gourmet pancake breakfast for my husband. I was really touched by that, since I was totally prepared to eat plain old bacon and scrambled eggs. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying with Taryn! Also, if you have some downtime, I'd recommend spending some time on her amazing screened-in front porch. We actually spent hours out there, just reading and resting up before the next touristy thing, and Taryn seemed happy we were enjoying it!
Staying with Taryn was like staying at a spa. Her upstairs private loft exceeded our expectations, with fresh flowers, a Carafe of ice water, and two freshly baked cookies all tastefully laid out. She even had bath robes at the ready. And if you're on the fence about breakfast, make sure you order it. The smells wafting up in the morning were second only to those incredible pancakes with her home-made caramel sauce that she served us, alongside eggs, bacon, fresh strawberries, and a watermelon smoothie. Taryn also went out of her way to introduce us to local music events and recommended restaurants. She's a great hostess and it shows in her attention to detail. Thanks Taryn.
Wow! Taryn is simply the best host and her gorgeous home our best airbnb experience to date (and we've stayed in some nice places!) her home is cool, inviting and gorgeously decorated - the room we stayed in was like something out of good housekeeping magazine! But it's the little touches that made our stay so lovely - Taryn made the bed everyday, gave us her wonderful homemade cookies, great tips about the area including a free concert the night we arrived and was a pleasure to chat to. The location is great - 10 min drive into downtown and 5 mins to Cooper young area with nice bars and restaurants. Excellent value for money and highly recommended!
Had a great stay with Tayrn!! House and room was just like pictures on website . Taryn gave us plenty of privacy but was also available to give recommendations for local things to do . Would stay here again !
I fall in love with Taryn's house and room in the lush and steamy hot Memphis immediately. Its external shape as well as its inside flow have a lot of soul.
The house is build of oblique lights and shadows, and plants and painting responding to each other. The room with its adjacent bathroom offer a perfect comfort and intimacy. Everything always comes back to details, and here the details have been mastered. Taryn will 'curate' you stay with great discernment in her guidance as much as she did with her house. It made our short stay a smooth exploration despite the short time allocated to it.
And since I have grown with Memphis nostalgia.
Taryn was an exceptional host and very welcoming. She will do anything to make you stay more comfortable - although there is no need. The house is gorgeous and immaculate, her cooking is devine and she knows all the good spots to go for entertainment and food. Highly highly recommend!
Taryn's home is absolutely cozy and gorgeous. She was very welcoming and helped us find a very hip lounge/bar where we could hear some live music before getting a good nights sleep. We could only stay one night but wished we could have stayed longer. My friend said she had the best shower that she's had in years- I guess the older shower heads have better water pressure. Overall it was an exquisite stay in Memphis thanks to Taryn's recommendations and her beautiful home!
Taryn was a wonderful host. The house smelled of fresh baked cookies and the attention to detail in the decor was amazing making the house look like a photo from a magazine at the same time remaining warm, comfy and inviting to just "hang out". We enjoyed her company and she is also a fantastic cook! I would recommend staying with her to anyone who is spending time in Memphis.
Thanks Taryn, Deborah and Joe from California
The neighbourhood was very nice indeed, wide, leafy street and large houses. We were able to park our car safely in the driveway. The house is large but feels cosy/welcoming. Taryn was an excellent host, she made us very welcome and came up with all sorts of recommendations for dinner, bars and music venues. Our room was decorated to a very high standard and she even made up the bed each day. She also left us (home-made) cookies, fruit and other snacks in the room. The room and bathroom were exactly as pictured, I think even better than shown in the photos. Excellent bedding, lots of towels, nice toiletries ..... hard to find a fault.
Taryn's home is truly as beautiful and lovely cared for as the photos show! Taryn was a great host who took the time to give us suggestions for food, museums, and entertainment. She is also in a lovely neighborhood great for a morning run with lots of sidewalks! I highly recommend staying with Taryn!
