Interaction with Guests
We love to socialize, and we know that guests may just want to relax and unwind. We live in a separate apartment downstairs, and are often available to chat.
With three rooms, there are often other guests around to meet and get to know. We have had guests from Europe, South America, the Middle East and Asia, providing a rich environment for learning and meeting new people.
We are in a quiet, residential neighborhood, just blocks from downtown. Behind our house is a lovely city park and water park.
Fairhaven is on the city bus line. We're also only a mile away from the Downtown Mall, an easy and pleasant walk. We have plenty of on-street parking.
Other Things to Note
Ask about massage! Flame has been a massage therapist for 20 years, and offers sessions to our guests at $65 per hour. This must be arranged in advance, of course, and we can't guarantee she'll be available. Please call or email to arrange an appointment.
Great, easy stay. House and room were as described and pictured. Raven and Flame were both approachable and accommodating.
Raven and Flame were just lovely! They had a great little guesthouse - clean and comfortable rooms with lots of helpful extras. It was perfect for the night we spent in Charlottesville. Should I return to visit, I would definitely stay there again.
We stayed with Flame & Raven for 2 nights and loved our visit. The Blue Ridge Room was lovely, and big enough for a short stay with 2 people. Everything for breakfast was provided as described and both the Center of Charlottesville and planes to go out at night for dinner where in walkable distance.
Thank you again, Flame & Raven!
Raven & Flame greeted us at the door, gave us a tour when we arrived, and gave us recommendations of things to do around Charlottesville! They were very friendly and helpful and had delicious food offerings for us for breakfast the next day.
Nice neighborhood with a playground just behind the house. House and room are clean and obviously maintained well, or in the process of being improved and lots of house plants for clean air! Compost and water conservation efforts appreciated.
My experience at the Blue Ridge Guest House was all that I had imagined. The home was adorable and welcoming. I felt at ease and calm upon entering the home and for the duration of my stay. Raven and Flame did a great job of explaining everything and making us feel welcome. Flame is a truly unique person with a beautiful art collection that we observed while in downtown Charlottesville. It was too bad that we could not stay there longer or arrive earlier to take more time on the back porch and listen to the nature surrounding us. Delicious coffee, tea, jam and eggs were provided by the hosts that were most appreciated on a Sunday morning. Will look to stay here again if returning to the area.
Raven was a nice host. I was felt welcomed. The exterior of the house was really rough. It needed work. The inside, at least the living room was fairly pleasant and adequately furnished. The bathroom was not very nice. It really needed a lot of attention. It was not very clean, and was just really tired. I found myself standing in water as I showered which was disturbing considering I was sharing it with 4 other people.
The bed was of poor quality so I did not sleep well.
Although Raven was pleasant and wanted my stay to be positive, this is not a place I would come back to.
Well, let me start by thanking you for telling us about the drain running slow. This was something that didn't show up when I clean, so the only way for us to find out was by someone letting us know. We may have missed saying it to you, but we ask our guests to knock on our door or call us if there's anything that would make their stay more comfortable. We also have evaluations in each room, asking for feedback on what would have made your stay better. I like to think we're pretty approachable, and certainly try to be responsive to any feedback (on reading your review, I've researched Green methods of unplugging drains, and there's baking soda and vinegar bubbling away merrily as I write!). :-)
As to the bed, comfort is of course a very subjective thing. Too often even a couple will disagree on the comfort level of a mattress (spoken from some experience!). I'm certainly sorry you found it uncomfortable, but also stand by the other reviews, here and on our website, saying they were happy with the beds.
So, again, I'm very glad to have the feedback, whatever form it comes in. If you're left incomplete by your stay or my response, I encourage you to get in touch with us - you have our email and our phone number. We'll certainly hear anything you need to say.
We wish you well, and hope you find places more to your liking in the future!

About the Host, Raven
I'm an innkeeper, a candle-maker, and a therapist in Charlottesville, VA. My wife is a massage therapist and artist. We now run two inns in town, Alexander House and Fairhaven Guesthouse. It keeps us very busy!
We're just become empty nesters - with one in college and one out on his own for the first time.
I heard about AirBnB from a guest in our hostel (Alexander House). I've been excited about trying it out.
