About this listing
My home is located 5 minutes by car from both colleges (Hartwick and SUCO) and 35 minutes from historic Cooperstown. It's a 4 minute drive to downtown Oneonta where you can enjoy our local restaurants, coffeehouses, and shops.
The yellow guestroom is warm and cozy. I will provide you with towels and linens. The room includes a writing/computer desk, ample dresser space, and a closet.
My old house is small but charming with large bay windows that let in a lot of light, the original chestnut molding, crown molding along the ceilings, and maple and oak wood floors. My late husband was a wonderful carpenter and did some beautiful things with this house. The downstairs has one large, open living space, a kitchen and a hall. The upstairs has two bedrooms, my tiny studio, and a bathroom. The bathroom is shared with me, the owner. Contact me with any specific needs you may have regarding your stay. I am flexible. Also, I do have a cat.
Even though I list a one night minimum, during the summer months, I prefer to book two night stays during a weekend as the hosting season is short in our area. But feel free to place an inquiry, and I will let you know.
I don't have cable TV or netflex, but I do have a collection of DVDS you might like. I also have a lot of books you are welcome to peruse, if you are still reading books....
Breakfast is continental style, basically self-serve and on your own schedule. Coffee, tea, juice....... bagels or good bread for toasting, or muffins with butter, cream cheese or jam.
When the weather permits, go out on my deck for a morning cup of coffee or take a short drive (or walk) to town to have a cup at the popular Latte Lounge. You are pretty much 4 to 7 minutes from anywhere you want to go in this pretty upstate town.
This is a good location for anyone who needs to come up for business, visit our two area colleges, take a short drive to Cooperstown, need accommodations while the kids are playing at the baseball camps, or just get away to upstate NY and be close to town and country for a little while. I am 6 minutes away from Oneonta's Cooperstown All Star Village and 30 minutes away from the Coopertown Dreams Park.
We have a music scene, art events and openings, The Green Toad Book Store (a unique book and gift shop), the Green Earth (a health and natural food store), and some wonderful restaurants and shops. There are Farmers Markets in Oneonta, Franklin, and Cooperstown that run from June right through November. You can also take a scenic drive along Route 28 to nearby Cooperstown where you can visit The National Baseball Hall of Fame, Hyde Hall, The Fenimore Art Museum and Farmers Museum, Ommegang Brewery, or lovely Brookwood Gardens on Otsego Lake. There is so much to love about Upstate NY. Just drive along many of our unspoiled mountain and valley roads for a visual delight. Catch an opera or musical at the world class Glimmerglass Opera House in summer; or cross country ski in Neahwa Park or on the Gilbert Lake State Park trails in winter once the snow flies.
There is no parking on my street, but you can park in back of my house. You should know that my driveway is rough (it needs to be graded and resurfaced). You would access my house by driving up the driveway, parking, and knocking on the back door. I can be flexible about the 11 am checkout time depending on whether or not I have other guests arriving that day.
There is a bus service that runs every hour until 6 pm most days if you should need transportation to town or the colleges. It is located a few blocks down the road from my home.
No pets please. No smoking in the house. No stainable foods/beverages (red wine, coffee, etc) in the bedroom. If I am able to leave you the house, I just ask that you send me a courtesy text when you leave.
About the Host, Lisa
I have lived in the upstate New York area for over 25 years and have come to love the beauty of the rolling hills, the temperate, lush summers and the beautiful, vibrant falls. Winters here are a little more challenging, but beautiful just the same. I am a lover of the arts and a sometimes painter. I love being out in nature and using my gifts and talents to cook and entertain. Sharing my home seems like the natural extension of my eclectic interests and desire to make people feel welcomed and at home.
