My home is located 5 minutes from both colleges (Hartwick and SUCO) and 35 minutes from historic Cooperstown. It's a 4 minute drive to downtown Oneonta where you can enjoy our local restaurants, coffeehouses, and shops.
The yellow guestroom is warm and cozy. I will provide you with towels and linens. The room includes a writing/computer desk, ample dresser space, and a closet.
My house is small but charming with large bay windows that let in a lot of light, the original chestnut molding, crown molding along the ceilings, and maple and oak wood floors. The downstairs has one large living space, a kitchen and a hall. The upstairs has two bedrooms, my tiny studio, and a bathroom. Contact me with any specific needs you may have regarding your stay. I am flexible. Also, I do have a cat.
If my schedule allows, I can provide you with total use of my house (your bedroom, bathroom, dining/living area with TV/dvd player, and kitchen).
Breakfast is continental style, basically self-serve and on your own schedule, as I may leave the house for you to enjoy! Coffee, tea, juice.......Sometimes bagels or good bread for toasting, or muffins with butter, cream cheese or jam. Fresh fruits. Yogurt....
When the weather permits, go out on my deck for a morning cup of coffee or take a short drive (or walk) to town to have a cup at the popular Latte Lounge. You are pretty much 4 to 7 minutes from anywhere you want to go in this pretty upstate town.
This is a good location for anyone who needs to come up for business, visit our two area colleges, take a short drive to Cooperstown, or just get away to upstate NY and be close to town and country for a little while.
We have a music scene, art events and openings, The Green Toad Book Store (a unique book and gift shop), the Green Earth (a health and natural food store), and some wonderful restaurants and shops. There are Farmers Markets in Oneonta, Franklin, and Cooperstown that run from June right through November. You can also take a scenic drive along Route 28 to nearby Cooperstown where you can visit The National Baseball Hall of Fame, Hyde Hall, The Fenimore Art Museum and Farmers Museum, Ommegang Brewery, or lovely Brookwood Gardens on Otsego Lake. There is so much to love about Upstate NY. Just drive along many of our unspoiled mountain and valley roads for a visual delight. Catch an opera or musical at the world class Glimmerglass Opera House in summer; or cross country ski in Neahwa Park or on the Gilbert Lake State Park trails in winter once the snow flies.
There is no parking on my street, but you can park in back of my house. My driveway is a little rough (it needs to be resurfaced). You would access my house by driving up the driveway, parking, and knocking on the back door.
There is a bus service that runs every hour until 6 pm most days if you should need transportation to town or the colleges. It is located a few blocks down the road from my home.
There are not enough words to describe the kindness Lisa showed us upon arriving at her lovely home. Lisa took the time to make sure we were comfortable and relaxed after a long day of touring. We had wonderful conversations with Lisa who has wonderful insights and stories along with her boyfriend Jeff ( who is equally kind and full of great stories) with a lovely glass (or two) of wine that she so graciously shared with us. We were really sad to only get to stay one night. She even left the house to ourselves, and we watched movies on her amazing couch until we feel asleep! We have used airbnb a few times now and Lisa has definitely been the best to stay with so far! Not to mention the lovely town of Oneonta, NY and all the wonderful shops and restaurants. Basically, you are missing out if you don't stay with Lisa!!!
