Cute, clean and comfortable one bedroom ground level apartment, with Queen size bed and sofa fold out bed, perfect for small families or two couples. Located in Holualoa next door to Hula Daddy Coffee, at perfect 1200 foot elevation but only about 10 minutes to the beach, restaurants and town of Kailua-Kona. Family owned and operated, we also run FBI Surf School ((website: hidden)) check us out on Trip Advisor and (website hidden). If your looking for a laid back, family friendly rental that's affordable you've found the spot!
Nice and clean one bedroom downstairs apt in local familys home. Only 10 minutes to the beach and town but nice rural setting.
Washer, dryer, wireless internet, good tips on what to do on island from lifetime locals.
I live upstairs with my wife and children, guests have total privacy in their own apartment.
Quiet, perfect elevation (1200 feet) yet close to everything.
We definitely recommend a car on the Big Island, public transportation is almost non existent here.
Family friendly, mellow place to stay.

The suite was just as advertised and very clean and comfortable - a great little base on the Big Island. Brittany and Ossian made sure we were comfortable and were super helpful and accommodating with little extras, like lending us a cooler and bringing extra blankets as we had a couple days of unusually cool weather. Even more amazing as Brittany had just had a baby days before we arrived but that didn't seem have any effect on their hospitality. I was expecting a bit more noise from the kids but they are super quiet. They have two cute dogs and an affectionate cat that would come and visit when we were sitting outside. The only thing to know is that Hula Daddy coffee next door isn't a coffee shop as I assumed). It's a ten minute drive to either Holualoa or down to Kona to reach cafes and amenities which is very close by Island standards but if you're a caffienne addict, bring some coffee the first night:) There's a coffee maker and grinder in the apt. Overall a great stay - I love the Big Island and the apt was a great place to see it from - I hope to be back again. Thanks/mahalo Brittany and Ossian!
We highly recommend staying at the Surfer's Inn. It is well-appointed, clean and comfortable, and perfectly situated for visiting many attractions on the Big Island. The apartment is a self-contained unit that is part of Ossian's home. Ossian and Brittany are very responsive and make themselves available if you have questions about getting around the area. The apartment is equipped with a small kitchen with a full size fridge, toaster oven, cook-top burners and a microwave. It is stocked with necessities like beach towels and cooking implements. It also has WIFI which works very well. We enjoyed our month and half stay and will be back again!
I stayed with my parents and sister at the Surfers Inn, and it was great! My parents took the bedroom and my sister and I shared the fold-out couch...which was plenty big enough for the two of us(but there was also a futon available if we hadn't wanted to share). The apartment was clean, comfortable and in a convenient (email hidden)d had some cool artwork on the walls! It was only only a short drive Ali'i Drive, and right next to Hula Daddy Coffee (which had a quick, but interesting tour).
Ossian was quick to respond, and easy to communicate with. He and his wife (and kids) made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. They were available with suggestions, or if we needed anything, but we also had all the privacy we needed.
I just wish we would have had more time (and the surf conditions had been better) so we could have taken some surfing lessons from Ossian....and played the Surf Monopoly boardgame that was in the house! Next time!
If I'm ever back in Kona, I'd definitely stay again.
We stayed in the apartment for two nights and had a great time! The apartment is conveniently located, quiet, nicely furnished, and well-equipped. The owners, the Farmer family, were very friendly and flexible with scheduling our stay. They also always responded to any inquiries we had in a timely manner, whether by email or phone. Would definitely recommend!
Ossian and Brittany are lovely hosts. The cottage was just perfect for us: 10 Minutes away from Kailua-Kona and all the restaurants, shops and the beach, but at the same time extremely quiet and tranquil as it is surrounded by gardens and pasture. Big plus: It is located in the heights of Kailua-Kona, meaning it gets nice and chilly at night, so no AC needed. We had a kitchenette with a huge freezer, a comfy sitting area and a pleasant bedroom with ensuite bathroom. There was WIFI and laundry available. All in all for us it was a perfect base for exploring the West side of Big Island. Nothing is too far away, just ideal. I can't think of any down sides except we should have stayed longer...
The Surfer's Inn is nestled in the Hills of Kona and it is only a short drive down the hill to all the attractions. Staying with Ossian and his lovely family was truly a Hawaiian experience. I strongly recommend that during your visit to Kona, if you are interested in surfing and need some instruction, that you sign up for surfing lessons with FBI (From Big Island) which is owned and operated by Ossian. The instructors are amazing, you will have a blast and will most definitely fall in love with surfing.
Thanks Ossian! We will be back! Angela, Leeh and EJ
We are so in love with Ossian and his adorable family...super cute dogs and cat included. If you want to learn to surf or if you are already an experienced surfer Ossian is happy to help with all of your surfing needs. He is one of the nicest people on this island and can provide you with tons of information that will make your stay fun and enjoyable. My husband and I are so pleased that we can count this family among our new friends. Mahalo Ossian for being so kind to Michael.
