The Space

Tiny Buddha is serene and right on the beach! Located in Potrero, approx 1 hour from the International airport in Liberia. This apartment is private and secure. Loft style bedroom with king sized bed. Full kitchen with a microwave, toaster, blender, oven, fridge, coffee maker, etc.
A safe for your valuables, full alarm system.

A short walk down the beach to Yoga at the Bahia del Sol. Yoga available at the Bahia on Mon/Tues/Thurs/Sat. Drop in cost is $10.

Lots of great things to do in the area: diving, catamaran tours, snorkeling, horseback riding, ziplining, etc.

Bike rentals available from Claudia's Bike Rentals. Transit is available at the corner by the Bahia.

Go to sleep with the sound of the waves and wake to the birds singing and the howler monkeys are never far away. Enjoy a cocktail on the terrace overlooking the boats in the bay.

The Neighborhood

I love this little town. The energy is contagious with so many great people. There is always something to do - lots of options for music playing at The Shack restaurant, El Coconut, The Bahia, La Perlas, Maxwell, Las Brisas, etc.!
If you love nature, you will love Potrero. Head out on the kayaks to an estuary to see oversized Iguanas, birds and monkeys or paddle out to an island for a day. I love the canopy tour and the catamaran tours. The catamarans take you to some wonderful snorkeling spots, watch the sunset from the boat, all food and drinks are included for $85, so it's well worth it. Beach hopping is encouraged. You can get to many beaches by transit or bike and of course you are right on Potrero beach at this tiny place.

Getting around

The public transit bus runs often, but I am not for busing it, so if you are traveling this way, you will have to let me know ahead of time so I can find out the schedule.

  • Villa Jasmin was a great value for money. The house was very clean and modern, offering all the amenities needed. We also had a lot of fun with the swimming pool and barbecue in the backyard. I highly recommend booking this place with Colleen, who has always been here to help us !
    Thanks a lot !

  • Having used Airbnb several times this was one of the best accommodation choices we have made. Well priced + well equipped = excellent value for money.
Colleen provided enough information to orientate ourselves and went out of her way to pick us up and take us to the house having arrived a couple of hours earlier than arranged. Colleen was just a phonecall away and very kind and helpful when needed.
The house was very well equipped with everything needed to be completly self sufficient for the duration of our two week stay. Having use of the washing machine was a bonus.
The location to the beach and mini market was excellent.
The pool was another bonus and a great way to cool off, however the mosquitos prevented us from fully enjoying this or the outside dining areas. The house was mosquito free with good screens to all window and door openings.
We would stay again and highly recommend to other travelers.

  • Colleen manages several properties in Potrero, and I can see why people trust her to do so, as she is very friendly, promptly responds to any questions or concerns, and is very respectful of your privacy. The house "steps to the beach/great pool" is just as described in the title. The gardens that surround the house are the best part, with so much dense foliage you'll feel like you're in the jungle. Watch many different kinds of lizards running to and fro, howler monkeys passing by in the canopy, birds swooping down to feed or singing in the treetops, raccoons scavenging for food, and any number of interesting insects and arachnids. (It's not a house for the skittish, as I had millipedes, spiders, whip scorpions, lots of geckos, and even a scorpion and a small snake in the house during my month stay, though I believe this is just how it is in this part of the world, especially in a house surrounded by trees and plants!) The house itself is basic but comfortable, with ample hot water, a very well-stocked kitchen, a lovely patio with hammock and outdoor dining area, and a small, refreshing pool that was always crystal clear. My only problem was some mold issues in the bedroom, as the bathroom opens directly into the room with no door (though this might also be a rainy season problem, as it rained every single day) and the bedding always felt damp, so you've been warned if you have asthma or allergies like me. Otherwise, I do recommend the house if you are coming to Potrero, as the location is great, close enough to the beach to hear the waves at night, and a block or two to several grocery stores. Take the shortcut path to the Bahia del Sol and continue down the road to Flamingo and there's a wonderful vegetable stand not far away on the left (don't be intimidated by the gruff owner; after a few visits, he'll be giving you free pineapples, mangoes, and coconuts!) Continue on the road to Flamingo for an ATM (located across the street at the junction), head left for a better stocked grocery store than you'll find in Potrero, or turn right to head into Flamingo proper if you need a pharmacy. Honestly, Potrero itself isn't much to write home about; and the beach wasn't very clean, but it was almost always completely empty and is a great place for some stunning sunsets; and so overall this house is a great place to stay if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing spot surrounded by beautiful nature, and not a place with an amazing beach and lots of character/culture.

  • We just spent a whole month in Potrero and stayed at Casita Santosha. I honestly cannot understand how anyone could leave a negative review about this place. We loved it! Part of the appeal is precisely that this isn't a pristine, sanitized resort where all you see are drunken gringos lined up at the swim-up bar. If that is what you're looking for, please go to Flamingo, pay about 5 times what you would pay here and leave this wonderful property available for those who enjoy it. In 6 months of traveling we have simply not found lodging that beats the casita when it comes to amenities and value. Colleen was always helpful, pleasant and just a phone call away when we needed her. We would gladly book here again on our next visit to Guanacaste if we are lucky enough to have a chance to come back.

  • We were fortunate enough to be able to stay in this beautiful home for almost two months. The house was big enough for the two of us plus a few family guests that paid us a visit. The house is fully furnished will all necessary amenities you can think of. We were just a 20 minute walk away from some of our favorite beaches in the area and when we were feeling too lazy to walk, we enjoyed the private pool and beautifully landscaped backyard. We were also lucky enough to be visited on various occasions by families of howler monkeys crossing through the trees in the backyard (we absolutely loved it). An incredible Italian gelato shop was only about a 10 minute walk from the house and close to our favorite pizza place Marco Polo.
Colleen was quick to fix the few issues that came up while we were there and was always prompt in replying to emails. We hope we have the chance to come back and visit, and if we do, we wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else. It was a wonderful experience!

  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here. The review before mine was very scathing and the house is not as bad as the person makes it sound. No, it is not a luxury house by any means, but is a perfect choice if you want to be close to the beach and do not need five star hotel quality accommodation. Yes, the stove was old, but it worked so that seems to be the only thing that matters; the kitchen had sufficient utensils and cooking equipment to prepare your own meals--I did not find anything odd about what was there. The shower was good with nice hot water, and the ''unfinished plumbing'' is simply the tile missing from the area around the handles. The internet connection was really good and the house is in a very quiet area. Bed was comfortable and bedding was clean. Portrero is a great area and I would recommend this house.

  • We booked at casita Santosha for a week when we arrived we noticed the house Was not what we expected to be. It is a run down & neglected house the furniture old dirty & stained . The bathroom is dirty with partially finished plumbing work. with exception of refrigerator & toaster oven which are relatively new the rest of appliances cooking utensils, plates & cutlery are old & odd. Some of the blinds are broken & non functional. The time we were in Playa Porterero was The worse time of the year for bugs Mosquitos & flies. The window screens through out the house are damaged & torn. The patio furniture are dirty & old. The out building so called Rancho is extremely dirty & full of bugs. We never experienced accommodation Of this poor quality offer to public. Airbnb should have never accepted to put this house for rental. As far as our vacation we waisted whole week here in this house.
As far as the host herself is concerned she is very detached & uncooperative replacing a light bulb in the kitchen took three days to be replaced. We do not recommend this place at all.

  • This casita is a perfect place for a quiet Costa Rican vacation. The area is very quiet and the grounds are shared with Alex, the security guard who is super friendly and willing to assist in any way possible. I am a single female and traveled here by myself. I never felt threatened or scared once while at Casita Santosha. It is very calming. BRING BUG SPRAY!
Also, I would recommend renting a car as there are many different playas in the surrounding area worth exploring. There is not much night life in Potrero, but I think those that go here may be more interested in the wildlife and direct access to the beach.
Bahia del Sol in Potrero is a nice way to spend a relaxing, more resort type day, when visiting Potrero. I recommend stopping there to check it out.

  • The casita was excellent. It was well-equipped and we had everything we needed for a weeklong stay.

Making the stay even better was that Colleen was a great host and was available for any questions or requests we had.

    Highly recommended!
