Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
We're home and have rooms in our century farmhouse located on 100 acres of field, forest, garden and, although you can't see it, you can hear and smell the Atlantic ocean less than a 1000m away. The house isn't exactly magazine worthy but it's cozy, clean and comfortable. You won't be afraid to use the shower even if it has blue patterned tile board! Bruce and Fynn, our friendly yellow Labradors join us in welcoming you. Also, see our twin bedroom: https://airbnb.com/h/fromawayfarmdoublebedroom

The space
We are from away. We both relocated from Ontario before we met and so together we have lots of family and friends that visit. They think it's great here, so even if it's a little rough around the edges, we like to share our empty rooms with others. The house and property is a labour of love for us but we understand that bare plywood floors and ongoing drywall repairs aren't for everyone. We like to think that what we lack in polish, we make up for in hospitality.

Guest access
Make yourself at home. We're kinda' minimalists in some ways here. If you need bottled shampoo and separate conditioner you should bring your own, we have a bar of natural soap that we use for everything. Our food is from this and other farms so if you require store bought dairy or other products, you should bring that too. Our homemade butter and yogurt aren't elitist, they'll share the fridge. The only thing that we ask is that you don't feed the dogs!

Other things to note
Please note that we are 100% heated with a woodstove, that means cool nights in the winter. Please dress accordingly.
Our water comes from a well, we drink it but recommend that guests use the bottled water provided. You'll be fine brushing your teeth and showering with it.

For an authentic Isle Madame experience we can arrange many seasonal activities for an additional fee. Ask about lobster fishing, clam digging, mussel picking, a beach boil, learning to cook seafood, guided tours or our packed picnic lunches.
Year round you can visit an organic garden oasis built on rock at Pebble and Fern Market Garden, there are a couple of lighthouses on the island, excellent seafood chowder at the Arichat Fish Market and the best coffee across the street at La Goelette a Pepe cafe with V Pottery located next door.
Seasonally we recommend the nearby pub, The Groundswell with hosts Colleen and Matt, you can also get adventure advice from them and rent SUP/kayak/surf/bikes.
By appointment we can arrange a visit to our favourite potter Gina at The White Turtle where you can also see their off-grid strawbale house and permaculture gardens.
We have experience hosting small retreats that could include small game or forest cook by fire experiences, yoga, workshops of natural crafting or making raw dairy products. Let us know what you're looking for and we'll craft an experience tailored to you.

We are from away. Both transplants from Ontario who came to Isle Madame searching for a simpler life. Together we are overhauling a century home and property to create a self sufficient lifestyle. It's early in our journey but we think it's paradise and know that there are others who would feel the same way. We love to catch/hunt/find and cook local, seasonal, fresh food and spend time with family and friends.

During your stay
We are here, living our normal life. We can usually accommodate extras for a meal at a reasonable price if you are interested and prefer that you don't plan to cook meals in the kitchen without previous arrangement. You are more than welcome to join us in the rest of the house and whatever else happens to be going on; could be a bonfire, ukuleles on the beach or game night with friends.
