Located in the heart of South Minneapolis, the Center for Performing Arts (cfpa) creates and hosts opportunities for artists and community members to gather and develop their personal and creative processes. cfpa hosts traveling artists and visitors in an historic, five-bedroom, 2,600-square-foot apartment on its third floor. Whether you need a space to rest, transition, or practice your art, we invite you to stay in one of our private bedrooms and immerse yourself in this vibrant community.

The space
Originally constructed in 1923 as a convent, cfpa now provides affordable office, rehearsal, and teaching space for local performance artists and other creative practitioners. Our AirBnB builds creative community by providing accessible residential space to those visiting Minneapolis on both short- and long-term bases. Below the apartment, you’ll find three floors of private studio space used by creative practitioners — including bodyworkers, music teachers, dance companies, writers, and neighborhood organizations — as well as two active rehearsal studios, which host numerous daily classes and rehearsals across a range of practices (from yoga to modern dance to experimental theater).

When you stay here, you’re making an investment in this community. The money that you spend on your room allows us to keep studio and rehearsal space affordable for our community, and invest in artists who present public performances and workshops in our space. A portion of your room fee is deposited into our Artist Development Fund, which we use to directly pay artists for leading workshops and presenting their work to the public.

Curious to get involved during your stay? You’re invited to participate in drop-in classes, schedule sessions with our bodyworkers, or book rehearsal space of your own to develop your practice. A schedule of all public classes and more information about the practitioners hosted here can be found on our website, cfpampls.com. Guest access
The Northwest Room features a double bed, private work space, and ample storage room. You’ll also have access to an open, light-filled living/dining room, kitchen, and bathroom. Common spaces are tidied and fresh towels are provided regularly. Since the common areas are shared by all guests, we ask that each leaves the common areas as they found it. Laundry services are available to guests staying more than one week, for a small fee. Free parking can be found on surrounding residential streets, and you’ll have access to free bike storage and racks. In the warmer months, you’re welcome to enjoy our spacious backyard patio, situated next to community gardens.

Other things to note
Guests are advised that the apartment is up two flights of stairs, and cfpa does not have an elevator. We regret that our space is not currently appropriate for folks with movement difficulties.

The Center for Performing Arts is a location for artists, community members, and students of many interests and disciplines to gather and develop their work.  As an organization, the Center is dedicated to the vitality of the creative process and supports practitioners from a range of traditions to teach, learn, workshop, and practice in order to sustain their work/life and become creative and contributing members of their communities. The Center for Performing Arts was constructed as a convent for Incarnation Catholic Church in 1913. Well-suited to house artist’s studios, dance studios, offices and meeting spaces, in 1995 the arts center project was conceived of and converted into its current use by Jackie Hayes with support from community members and artists. Since then, the Center has provided hundreds of individual dancers, theaters, movement practitioners, performance companies, dance companies, bodyworkers, therapists, and teachers with affordable office, rehearsal and audition space.
