This newly renovated cottage is located one block from the lake in Kings Beach with fun amenities such as a firepit, bocce ball court and outdoor dining area.
Karen is a former HGTV designer. Mikel was her television producer. They wanted a place in Tahoe that reflected the fun of SF and LA so they bought a piece of sh** cinder block bunker and completely rehabbed it.
The fenced-in yard has a wonderful firepit for year-round campfires outdoors, as well as an outdoor dining table, bocce ball court, a gas BBQ and a hammock (in the summer months). Inside, you have a Nest digital thermostat, a 47" HDTV in the living room with Apple TV and Roku to play music or watch your favorite streaming shows (Free Netflix, Hulu and HBOgo) and a Nintendo Wii. There's also a 32" HDTV in the queen sized bedroom. (Only streaming TV, no local channels or cable). If you're still bored, plenty of parlor games await you and in the winter, we have two toboggans at your disposal. Down pillows, organic cotton bath towels, and a Thermostatic 8" rain hood in the shower were all chosen to recreate our favorite four star hotel experiences. The interior doors are salvage doors from SF Victorians, the coffee is Blue Bottle, the floors are black bamboo and the walls are brand new bead board.
Want to go to the lake? You are one block from the best beach in all of Lake Tahoe.
Interaction with Guests
This is a true getaway. You will have a house manager and handyman nearby if you need anything, but otherwise, we want you to make yourselves at home.
Besides being a block from the actual lake and downtown Kings Beach, you are a short drive to Northstar, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, Mt. Rose and Diamond Peak ski resorts as well as the casinos in Crystal Bay and Incline Village.
You are steps away from plenty of shops and restaurants. A 24 hour Safeway is a two minute drive.
Other Things to Note
Want to bring your pet? Sure! $25/night pet fee... which if you think about it is a bargain next to our human fee. We've also included the county's 10% hotel tax in the overall price.
Also, we're a one night minimum. The only night of the week that we require a two night booking is Saturday (or holidays), unless it's the week of and available.
There are beds for 4, maximum occupancy 6. We'll provide one Frontgate queen size air bed for additional guests (the fancy kind) and although the couch doesn't fold out, at 6' 0", I've slept on it before and it's quite comfy!
You'll have the run of the place, just please note that everything is basically new!
No smoking of any kind inside ($200 will be taken out of your deposit if we catch you doing it) and please remove wet/dirty shoes before walking around the house. Pets (visiting pets included) are welcome with additional $25/night fee. Parking is easy. You can fit 3 cars in the driveway and along the fence out front.
NO ginormous parties please (weddings, raves, et al). We're new to the neighborhood and the last thing we need is to piss off the neighbors with a giant rager. Because of that, we ask for quiet hours outdoors from 10pm-7am. Wine and shit talking totally cool, loud music and screaming tickle fights, not so much.
This property is privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise.
That means if you injure yourself, I’m sorry, but you assume any and all risks by stepping foot in our adorable little home.
We had a great stay! The cottage is in a great location and is very comfortable. Very smart use of the space! Mikel was very helpful and always quick to respond. Would stay here again!
Amazing stay at a hip and fresh cottage at Lake Tahoe. We loved the charm and quirkiness and even took some notes since we're considering building our own mini-home. We had plans to go out and have a nice dinner each night and immediately squashed those plans just to spend more time at the cottage. This place is technology rich with amenities but also inviting in the most comfy, cozy, and relaxed way. Looking forward to coming back!
I absolutely loved this place! Everything is so fresh and clean, we felt like we were in a brand new house designed just for us. The kitchen was wonderful and we used it for just able every meal. The BBQ area is a bit dark at night but there are some great lanterns provided to take out there. We had trouble with the TV in the bedroom but Mikel was super quick to get back to us with the fix. The house is in a great location close to just about everything you can think of. When going back to North Lake, we will definitely be staying here again. This was my first trip using AirBnb and the standards have been set high.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Mikel's lovely cottage. Although we were unable to check in until after the designated time due to the previous tenants checking out later than scheduled, Mikel was really on top of it and kept us in the loop throughout the day. The cottage was very modern and clean, perfect for our little family. The location is great; right across from the lake and literally a block away from Safeway. 20 minutes to Squaw and North Star. Not much snow this visit but we had a blast. :) We will definitely plan another visit back in the summer time!!
The cabin: When looking for a place to stay in Tahoe for a short weekend, we were immediately drawn to this home. The cabin is even more adorable than the pictures can show. Even though it is a smaller cabin, it was more than enough room for four adults and a dog. It is designed so incredibly well that you do not feel crowded in the least. They thought of everything with tons of storage space including closets in both bedrooms, raised beds to store our suitcases beneath, hooks everywhere, and a mud room. There are great appliances in the kitchen, a rain shower in the bathroom, and a washer/dryer (which luckily we didn't need).
Outside: The amazing outdoor space with the fire pit and the bocce ball court made it hard to want to leave the cabin at all. Our dog loved the fenced in yard, and it made it so easy for him to get some exercise while we lounged around reading in the sun.
Location: The cabin is located right across the street from the beach, which has the most stunning view. It is close to hiking, skiing, and a 24 hour Safeway.
The host: Mikel was instantly responsive when we had questions about where things were located. He was also incredibly flexible about the check out time, since we did not get to the house until very late on Friday evening. As if it could get better... they left us four gallons of ice cream (we couldn't even come close to finishing that much), two jars of Blue Bottle coffee (amaaaazingg), and even three pairs of down slippers in case we were cold!
We really cannot say enough positive feedback about this place. We would absolutely love to come back and wish that we had gotten to stay longer. Thank you Mikel!
The cottage was more than great! It was clean and spacious for us to stay. There is a bbq gril and camp fire pit in the garden. Only the sad part was that there were not too much lights or lanterns in the garden. We started the bbq a bit late; it was too too dark for us to bbq. Wish there were some more lights. The cottage has the cups, dishes and bowls which they are gorgoeus and pretty. I will definately come back for summer!
We had an amazing stay at Mikel's cottage! The place was cozy, decorated beautifully, and a perfect location for all our needs. Mikel was also very helpful and left us typed up guides and instructions for the house and town. If we come back to Kings Beach we would love to stay here again!
I am a reality television development producer who seeks out people, places and things that are broken, weird, ridiculous and fancy.
The other owner of the house is Karen, a San Francisco designer who loves four star hotels, questioning authority and her son Jack. Oh, and she used to have a couple shows on HGTV.
We both love to travel and don't believe nice has to be expensive.
