Description

This recently renovated cottage is located one block from the lake in Kings Beach with fun amenities such as a firepit, bocce ball court and outdoor dining area.

Karen is a former HGTV designer. Mikel was her television producer. They wanted a place in Tahoe that reflected the fun of SF and LA so they bought a piece of sh** cinder block bunker and completely rehabbed it.

The fenced-in yard has a wonderful firepit for year-round campfires outdoors, as well as an outdoor dining table, bocce ball court, a gas BBQ and a hammock (in the summer months). Inside, you have a Nest digital thermostat, a 47" HDTV in the living room with Apple TV and Roku to play music or watch your favorite streaming shows (Free Netflix, Hulu and HBOgo) and a Nintendo Wii. There's also a 32" HDTV in the queen sized bedroom. (Only streaming TV, no local channels or cable). If you're still bored, plenty of parlor games await you and in the winter, we have two toboggans at your disposal. Down pillows, organic cotton bath towels, and a Thermostatic 8" rain hood in the shower were all chosen to recreate our favorite four star hotel experiences. The interior doors are salvage doors from SF Victorians, the coffee is Blue Bottle, the floors are black bamboo and the walls are brand new bead board.

Want to go to the lake? You are one block from the best beach in all of Lake Tahoe.

This is a true getaway. You will have a house manager and handyman nearby if you need anything, but otherwise, we want you to make yourselves at home.

Besides being a block from the actual lake and downtown Kings Beach, you are a short drive to Northstar, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, Mt. Rose and Diamond Peak ski resorts as well as the casinos in Crystal Bay and Incline Village.

You are steps away from plenty of shops and restaurants. A 24 hour Safeway is a two minute drive.

Pets are welcome and the yard is completely fenced in. We've also included the county's 10% hotel tax in the overall price.

We're a one night minimum. The only night of the week that we require a two night booking is Saturday (or holidays), unless it's the week of and available.

There are beds for 4, maximum occupancy 6. We'll provide one Frontgate queen size air bed for additional guests (the fancy kind) and although the couch doesn't fold out, at 6' 0", I've slept on it before and it's quite comfy!

House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
Check in is anytime after 4PM

You'll have the run of the place, we simply ask you treat it like you would your own.

No smoking of any kind inside ($200 will be taken out of your deposit if we catch you doing it) and please remove wet/dirty shoes before walking around the house. Pets are welcome, just please clean up after them. Parking is easy. You can fit 3 cars in the driveway and along the fence out front.

NO ginormous parties please (weddings, raves, et al). We're new to the neighborhood and the last thing we need is to piss off the neighbors with a giant rager. Because of that, we ask for quiet hours outdoors from 10pm-7am. Wine and shit talking totally cool, loud music and screaming tickle fights, not so much.

Amazing! Very well equipped with cool decor. Nice location, walkable to downtown Kings Beach and the Safeway. We enjoyed the fire pit and the backyard totally makes this place. Cleaning fee is a bit steep but everything was pristine. Would love to come back in the Summer and stay longer.

Every aspect of our stay in this Hip Modern Cottage was nothing short of A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. We pulled up to the house and our jaws dropped at how cute it was - the property 100% matches the pictures on the website and we could not get over how gosh-darn-adorable the place is (inside and out)!! The beds are comfy, the heater works really well, check-in and out was super easy, the entire house was clean and dust-free, the rain shower was to-die-for, the water pressure was perfect, there are stacks of board games, dice and cards in the back of the house for late-night family challenges, an awesome washer and dryer that came in really handy after a long day of exploring and hiking, a spacious fridge with filtered water, an ice dispenser, and a freezer filled with 5 quarts of (yummy) assorted ice cream flavors, the cutest mismatched bowls and plates you ever saw (really good quality stuff that was obviously hand-picked in order to add charm and pops of color to the place while satisfying the need for function and style), every type of pot, pan, plate, bowl, cup, glass, utensil, etc. that you would need to cook a great meal with (except for shot glasses which we could not find no matter how hard we willed them into existence - ha ha), and a real sense of security and peace once you step through the front gate and into the house (we felt really safe!). Mikel was a fabulous host; he is extremely personable and accessible at all times and his witty Welcome Guide is ridiculously well-thought-through for people who aren't familiar with Kings Beach (or Tahoe, for that matter). We visited several of the restaurants he recommended in the guide (he was spot on with his descriptions) and he even includes a metal box full of maps and discount flyers for hiking trails and local businesses. We walked to the beach, drove less than 3 blocks to the store (we're from L.A. and 54 degrees is arctic cold to us), and found ourselves smack dab in the middle of town with literally anything and everything we needed within walking distance (even though we literally drove everywhere). My son and his girlfriend played bocce in the backyard, I watched my favorite shows on Netflix, we stocked the fridge with our favorite food and drinks, swung in the backyard hammock, watched grey squirrels and chipmunks climb the trees, spotted a fuzzy (adorable!) bunny frolicking in the grass just outside the front porch, and took amazing photos of the mesmerizing sunsets from the comfort of the spacious yard. We absolutely loved, loved, loved everything about our stay and felt at home every. single. day. We truly cannot wait to stay here again!!

This was my second stay at this adorable and comfortable cottage. It is the perfect dollhouse with beautiful outside living space to complement all activities. All the amenities you need to feel at home. A very short walk to gorgeous Lake Tahoe and easy access to spectacular skiing, hiking and mt biking.

Perfect get away! Me and my 3 girlfriends stayed here for a few days as a retreat and it was perfect! It is the cutest coziest little place. Perfect for any family, or group of friends! I can see why they are so booked up! Absolutely loved it!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The furnishings, decor, style and technology are all top notch and reminiscent of a HGTV remodel. We loved relaxing outside on the deck and hammock in between our hikes on the Rim Trail. Our only issues were that the cleaning crew didn't finish until 1.5 hours after the regular check-in time, and the master bed was hard and felt a bit claustrophobic since it is walled in on 3 sides. But, bed firmness is a very individual preference, and given the space constraints in the cottage the configuration probably can't be improved. Mikel was extremely communicative and allowed us to have a later check-out due to the cleaning snafu. We appreciated his thoughtfulness and would have no hesitation recommending this super cool cottage to friends and family. Thanks Mikel!

A real gem...cozy and beautiful cottage. The communication with Mikel was fabulous, and the location is very convenient to access the beach, grocery and other activities, while at the same time there's literally no traffic and it's quiet.

Mikel User ProfileMikel is a superhost.

I am a reality tv development exec who seeks out people, places and things that are broken, weird, ridiculous and fancy.

Karen McAloon is the Interior Designer of the properties from San Francisco who loves five star hotels (3 in Europe), questioning authority and her son Jack. Oh, and she used to have a couple shows on HGTV where they made her dye her hair bright red and walk really fast towards the camera.

We both love to travel and believe good design shouldn't be all that serious. Unless it's bad design and then we take it personally.
