Apartment to rent in the inner city of Florence situated in the beautiful area of San Frediano in Via dell'Orto, still part of the centre but without tourist crouds.
The flat is composed of a big leavingroom with kitchen with a big table, a quiet double bed room with a window faced on a silent inside court,a bathroom with shower and window.
It' on the second floor in a building of 3 floors, and its ideal for 2 or 3 persons.
Let's call this the little apartment of oddities. Here's why:
- Monica is helpful and available via phone/text if needed. We had some confusing translation issues, but were able to work it out in the end.
- The bed is extremely comfortable and warm.
- Monica leaves modest fixings for a small breakfast, which is kind and thoughtful.
- Check-out time was flexible.
- The shower is a nightmare. As many other reviews state, it is in the hallway of the bathroom and doesn't drain properly, which means you literally need to take a squeegee to the floor and rake it dry unless you want to walk through half an inch of water to go to the toilet. Not ideal for that midnight wee.
- There is no working light in the toilet. Strike two for the midnight wee.
- The heater is overly complicated and makes a ticking sound every 30 seconds until you turn it off/on. Not great for winter sleeping.
- No wifi, but this is apparently very common in Italy. Still a bummer if you need it.
- No hair dryer. Fine in summer, but when it's 0°c outside, not so fine.
- Semi-centrally located, but still a jaunt to points of interest.
Overall, our experience was mehhh. But that's what you get for last minute holiday booking!
The apartment is well situated as it is in walking distance to the main attractions. Florence hotels in general are very expensive but this apartment had some defects that should be fixed asap for next guests.
In the ad there are not rules of the house but suddenly when you book there are a few; not enter with shoes, oven is not working, shower mat should be put in the floor so the water is not on the wooden floor... Etc. Also, washing machine i think is not working properly and there is no powder to wash it. Lights in the bathroom are not working all, monica should fix it.The shower is inadmisible, it is on the middle of the bathroom no proper space.
There is no wifi, no television.( already mentioned in the ad ) but just a reminder.
To be honest i think 183 euros for two nights is too much. At least if you put that price make sure all lights are working minimum...
Monica was very good in communication, and the apartament is really, really close to city centre. We did have some problems with the lock, but it's not Monica's fault:)
The flat was nice, bright and well cleaned, it actually looks like it is used quite often since it had some belongings in the bedroom and food in the fridge.
The location, although I guess it is still in the center of the city, it is still a good walk to the main areas (around 30 / 40 mins).
The flat itself is a Little bit smaller than it appears in the images, but the beds are quite comfy, which is good when you arrive knackered after a day of sightseeing.
We didn't actually see Monica, but she was nice to us when we called her - this was because we were unable to open the incredibly tricky lock of the door (it was indeed so very hard to open and close, and we didn't really manage to handle it in the couple of days we were there)-.
Finally, simply as a matter of information, the shower was a bit odd, it is right in the middle of the bathroom (you actually have to walk through it to get to the toilet area of the bathroom) and therefore it was so important to control that it didn't get flooded. Nevertheless, I must say that for what we have heard this is quite a common thing in the area.
The flat had a boho feeling to it which suited Florence quite well, and it was a good option as a base from where to move around the city for later coming to rest.
Thanks for having us Monica!
Monica was very friendly, and easy to contact. Although we did not manage to meet face to face, she was extremely helpful in making sure our check in and check out process was smooth. Her apartment is simply lovely. The place is well furnished and has a very vintage feel, almost like you're living in a part of Florence's wonderful history. We felt right at home and it was very comfortable. The apartment is in a very quiet neighbourhood, and there is a supermarket within walking distance. It was a genuine pleasure to stay in Monica's apartment and we will definitely want to stay here again.
Monica was extremely helpful and available both before we arrived and after we had settled in the flat - we thought we had a problem with the front door lock and Monica offered to visit to sort it out; luckily we found the knack of locking / unlocking the door without Monica's help.
The flat was very relaxing, beautifully placed for the city centre, and also very quiet. The high ceilings and window positions (allowing a through breeze) helped to cool the flat.
We found many interesting bars and restaurants in the immediate area - elsewhere, for us, nothing was too far to walk, including the Boboli Gardens, Palazzo Pitti, both only minutes away.
