Although this is a non-smoking apartment, it is not for people sensitive to smoke as Maryann, who lives upstairs, smokes.
Interaction with Guests
Always available via text or email!
Conveniently located just 3 minutes by train to Grand Central Station and just 7 minutes to Times Square in trendy Long Island City (LIC), Queens (not to be confused with Long Island which is NOT part of NYC.)
LIC is a safe and relatively quiet neighborhood. Its the perfect place to stay while visiting NY: more convenient to get to and from Times Square, the theaters and the main tourist areas than from downtown or uptown Manhattan, yet relatively quiet and peaceful with lots of galleries and MoMA PS1 Contemporary Art Museum a few blocks away.
Greenpoint and Williamsburg in Brooklyn are just across the Pulaski Bridge, a few stops on the G train.
The exit to the #7 subway train is literally just steps away.
Other Things to Note
1. Even if you're going to be here for less than 7 days, do buy a $30 7-day unlimited MetroCard for the subway and buses. It's economical and makes sense even if you're going to be here for just 4 days.
2. Download an app called Citymapper which will help you navigate our very vast and extensive subway system. You can get specific directions and have access to the subway map - very helpful.
3. Get ready to walk! NYC is built for walking, and although you'll probably have an unlimited MetroCard for the subway, you're still going to be doing a lot of walking!
4. What you MUST bring is a pair of really comfortable, thick-soled shoes.
A note for our foreign visitors: please be aware that it is customary to tip 15-20% when you eat out at restaurants. Waiters/waitresses do not get paid a normal salary and rely on tips to make their wages, so be generous to our poor service people!! Of course, if the service is not good, then you can reduce tips appropriately, but here in NY, 15% is the minimum. The only other person you tip is a taxi driver who generally gets about 10% of the metered fare.
This is a no smoking apartment although you might smell cigarette smoke from the apartment upstairs.

Everything was as expected !
No problem at all, the location so close to Manhattan is absolutely perfect !
Thanks again !
The neighborhood is great. It is a wonderful and quiet place to stay if you want to be near Manhattan but without all the madness of the City. It is steps away from the subway and a stop away from Manhattan.
The person who received us was very kind and helpful with all the information about the place and the surrounding areas.
"3 minutes to Midtown Manhattan" fits this place. The metro is around the corner you're one stop to Manhattan. The neighborhood, which we saw when we went out to do some shopping at night, is pleasant.
The place is nice. My wife and I slept in the bed, our 11 year old on the couch and our 18 year old on the air mattress. The photos show it as being brighter than we found it. We did not get any direct sunlight when we were there (last week of July); not a problem since there was still plenty of natural light coming in. Overall, the place is pleasant, though not without problems.
When you enter, you're in the living room. It has a nice overhead double fan plus light (but no air conditioner). The low setting is fine but on medium the fan starts to produce a distinct clacking sound and on high, it can be unnerving. So, we left it on low. There is a window air conditioner in the bedroom. It is adequate to cool the bedroom but not the whole place even when you open the double doors to the living room. There was also a nice overhead fan/light in the bedroom but when I asked about the remote, I was told that it did not work and we should use the A/C. So, we found ourselves never really able to create a comfortable air setting, which was especially a problem when trying to sleep at night. In addition, the A/C blows directly on the person sleeping closest to it. So, it's feast or famine for getting cool air.
The bathroom is nice. It has a window up high that lets in light but you can't see through. But the mirror was such that my wife (5'3") found that she couldn't put on her makeup without standing tiptoe. When she would try to use the mirror in the bedroom, the traditional shades didn't go up very high so there wasn't much light.
We didn't need a full kitchen but the fridge was pretty small and there's not really a lot of space to set down plates, etc. when using the microwave.
Beware: there is no coffee maker provided. The bakery a few doors down had the best coffee but didn't open until 7:30. The bagel place around the corner on Vernon had good coffee and bagels.
We had an excellent brunch at Café Henri (at 50th Ave. and Vernon). The coffee was good. I love eggs benedict and theirs was pretty good. Our younger son really enjoyed the French toast (sans almonds). They don't take reservations but it was only about 20 minutes to get a table.
Parking is tight; we found a place on 51st Street (M&T Bank on one corner and a park across the street) and parked there Sunday through Friday.
The place is tight for 4 so next time we might consider a place a few stops down on the 7 line.
This is a great apartment, so close to New York. It's as advertised but it's so much closer to shops, subway n NY than expected. A pleasant surprise. Very convenient especially with a metrocard. Very comfortable and clean. Beautiful riverside area is a bonus. Definitely recommended.
Min, Maryann's manager/agent, gave us very helpful directions and tips before arriving. Upon arrival, Maryann welcomed us and showed us where everything was - she was very hospitable! We had some problems with the toilet during our stay but Maryann was very helpful and obliging (thank you Maryann!). The place itself was lovely - a comfortable big bed that easily sleeps two, and another two of us shared an inflatable mattress in the living room (which has a TV and nice furnishings). It's also very near the subway, which gives easy access to Manhattan. I'd recommend!
Great location! We loved the neighborhood and its closeness to Manhattan. The apartment worked well for three people, with one of us staying on the air mattress in the living room. It was clean and comfortable. Thanks to Maryann and Min for their hospitality!
About the Host, Maryann
Maryann is the landlady of the property, and lives upstairs from the apartment.
My name is Min, and I am a friend of Maryann's. I am the person potential guests will be communicating with prior to arrival as Maryann does not know how turn on a computer ;) However, she's a terrific host and available to guests for any questions during their stay as she lives right upstairs, and will be the person you pick up keys from.
I have been a host on Airbnb for over 2 years, and you can read my reviews for my room listed under the title "One stop to Midtown Manhattan".
