One block from downtown & the seminary, the historic Stroud house has been in our family for 5 generations. We have an ideal AirBnB situation with separate guest entrance. Come & go at your leisure with minimal interaction necessary.

Ours is the perfect overnighting location for weddings at Binkley Chapel, events & functions at the community house, and for enjoying downtown's street fairs, shopping, pubs and eating establishments.

The space
Built in the early 1940s by the Rev I.T. Stroud, our home has some quaint and quirky features you won't find in modern homes. Preacher Stroud put a sink in each bedroom so his out-of-town guests could wash up privately before meals.

Like shiplap? Good, because we have plenty of it, including the ceilings. Eat your heart out, Joanna Gaines!

The guest suite has a very convenient private entrance separate from the rest of the house so you may come and go without having to walk through a common area. You will receive a keypad combination a day before your scheduled check-in.

The pastor's study contains bistro seating, a microwave, minifridge, and Keurig machine. We try to keep a small variety of k-cups available, but if you have a favorite please feel free to bring your own.

The study is then connected to the main bedroom with a queen-sized bed, walk-in closet, and private WC with in-bowl bidet. There is a fold out cot under the bed for additional sleeping if needed. Bring a sleeping bag should you plan to use the cot.

Older homes have smaller bathrooms, and ours is no different. Bathing facilities are available at the end of the common area hallway. We have plenty of hot water, great pressure, and our rainfall shower head is so luxurious. The handwashing sink in the hall bathroom utilizes clean water to fill the toilet tank, conserving both space and natural resources at the same time.

And... it's haunted.

Guest access
Entry is through a street level guest entrance with keypad lock into the study. A communal shower room with soap and shampoo is available for your use.

You have gratis access to our Saeco barista, serving fresh ground coffee and espresso. Refrigeration and kitchen facilities are not included in this rental.

Other things to note
"Wake Forest: Where The College Was..."

If you're coming into town for your nephew's/niece's graduation from Wake Forest University, unfortunately you'll have a 2.5 hour drive to see them. The university moved to Winston-Salem in 1953.

We are a dog family. Our dog Buttercup is our furbaby, but is not allowed in the guest suite. However since we have central air, we cannot guarantee an allergen free environment for those with dog allergies.

A note of CAUTION for the faint-hearted. Several friends, family, and guests have experienced supernatural events here including: footsteps in the hallway or upstairs, the hall and basement lights turning on randomly, a shadowy figure in the kitchen and dining room, glowing orbs in the living room, and even a music box that has played by itself. Nothing unusual has ever occurred in our guest bedroom, and none of the incidents have ever been malevolent in nature. We just accept that it is what it is, and continue on with our lives. Ask me for a haunted tour of the house if you're interested.

No smoking of ANY substance, or vaping in our guest suite please. Violation incurs a $200 fee. We also request no eating in our guest suite. The common area dining room is available if you're planning to dine-in.

Access to kitchen facilities, cooking, and refrigeration is not included in your stay.

The city park is right next door, and a newly renovated public aquatic center opened the summer of 2019. The facility is comprised of three bodies of water, including a six-lane, 25-yard lap pool; two water slides with plunge pool; and a children's pool with sprayground features. Entrance is $7 per person.

We recently removed several trees from the front yard, so the landscaping is a work-in-progress.

Because SO MANY of you have asked, the bed is a "Classic Brands Cool Gel Ventilated Gel Memory Foam 10.5-Inch Mattress, Queen" on Amazon. Sleeps like a dream!

Location

Wake Forest, North Carolina, United States

The old Wake Forest College campus facilities are a block north, still beautiful and maintained by Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary; a perfect place for an evening stroll. Further north on Main Street, you will be surrounded by architecture of the Queen Anne, Classic / Greek Revival, and Victorian eras.

White Street is also a block away, with plenty of antiquing and eating establishments, and several places for adult beverages should you so choose.

Since moving back to Wake Forest full-time in 1999, I have always enjoyed the company of third parties in my home. AirBnB seemed like a natural extension of that hospitality as the children grew older, and the nest is beginning to empty. Rebecca and I are a married couple in our mid 40s with very eclectic tastes, looking forward to completing the second half of our lives together. I'm a veteran of the Gulf War, a bulk food co-op manager, and she also works from home, helping manage the store and keeps your AirBnB spotless. We look forward to meeting you!

During your stay
I manage The Grain Mill, a bulk food and dry goods cooperative, from my basement and garage. As such, I am usually around during the day to assist with questions & requests, and offer suggestions.

Our TV room is beside our guest suite. Quiet hours are 10pm to 7am, but if a show we are watching is too loud for you, please let us know either in person or via the AirBnB app. Your comfort is our goal.
