Karungi Camp is the intersection of locals and travellers, of wild forests & comfortable beds, of good food & great conversation, & of feeling at home in a new community while escaping the ordinary & discovering your Uganda. At Karungi Camp, we believe that travel, & life, should be an escape from the ordinary & an opportunity to truly connect with the people, places & cultures around us. We aim to make as many small impacts inside the local community as possible ..

The space
Karungi Camp provides unique accommodations, experiences, and access to a virtually untouched corner of the world – we can’t wait for you to discover it!

As a Karungi Camp guest, you will have the opportunity to meet local community members as they come for dinner or stop by for a drink in our lounge.

Karungi Camp has a full bar and restaurant as a part of it's facilities - our chef is incredibly flexible, so we can accommodate nearly all food allergies or preferences. We have our own gardens, from some produce on site and support as many other local producers as we can (very little processed foods exist in the area). Delicious vegetarian meals abound and dairy & gluten free diets are easily accommodated.

Karungi has been built, through a lot of hard work and cooperation, on our shared values and experiences. We believe in:

~ Having Fun – we appreciate a playful approach to life and know that fun is a key part of a great trip
Embracing Life – we want to meet, work with and connect with other passionate people making the most of their lives
~ Being Kind – we value the unique gifts, experiences and contribution of everyone around us, and we respond with kindness, compassion and inclusion.
~ Helping Others – we recognize that everyone needs help at some point in their life, so we strive to give and graciously receive help
~ Being Honest and Accountable – we know that virtually any problem can be solved through honest, open conversations and consistent accountability for our actions
~ Being Innovative – we actively seek and embrace new ideas, innovations and positive change
~ Going on Adventures – we believe that travel (and life) should be an amazing adventure
~ Continuously Learning – we love learning from and sharing our knowledge with everyone we meet
~ Building Community – we benefit from our place in this amazing community and have designed Karungi Camp to give back in a collaborative way.
~ Connecting – our goal is to connect with you, and to connect you with the unforgettable environment, people and cultures of Uganda, and to help you escape ordinary and truly experience the Uganda that we love.

Exploring around Karungi

Karungi is an ideal home base for your adventures in Uganda! We’re located:

a 15 minute walk from the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi is home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas (trekking experiences are available daily), or you can spend your time in the local community, learning a local skill, meeting local families or hiking through breathtaking scenery. If you want greater interaction with local community members than what you see advertised in Lonely Planet, just ask! We’re thrilled to connect you with our friends.
a 1.25 hour boda ride from the Bunagana border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the opportunity for an adventure of a lifetime – climbing and sleeping on Mt. Nyrigongo (an active volcano!)
a 1.5 hour boda ride from the bases of either Mahubura or Sabinya – dormant volcanoes that form part of the Virunga Massif range. These volcanoes offer challenging day hikes with amazing views into the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.
a 1.75 hour car ride from Magahinga National Park – in addition to climbing volcanoes, you can also trek to see golden monkeys or more mountain gorillas.
