A small, quiet room near Lark Lane and close to the Bus stop from where you can get to Liverpool City Center in 10 minutes. Close to 2 large Parks. Suitable for visiting tourists, academics, touring musicians / actors and family visitors.
Double bed, very comfortable. As you can see it is on the ground. Japanese style. But it is a real mattress, not a futon. VERY comfortable and it has had good reviews. Guests with backache found the bed wonderful. x
PLEASE look at all of the pictures & read the text before booking. The mattress is on the ground. The room is clean as is the bathroom. The living room is exactly as busy as it looks in the picture. Our home is NOT minimalist, Birgit is an Artist with her studio and Art work stored in the flat . The bookshelves are overflowing with books and the apartment full of Art.

Note to Guests:
I like you! Even if I am busy and vary in how much time I can give you
our front step is a reasonable space to smoke, the apartment is 100% smoke free.
Guests with BABIES:
Perhaps a challenge but possible. We are open minded about midnight baby cries.
The comfortable mattress is on the ground, we don't currently have a bed base for it, but it is a very comfortable mattress and there is normal, clean bedding. We will have fresh bedding for you, and an extra blanket.
Your room is quiet and I am regularly making efforts to make it as nice as I can. Clean towels for guests. We have no tv sorry.
The apartment is nice from the inside:
Our apartment is in a house which contains several other apartments. The guest bedroom is small, bright and quiet. The street is green and leafy. The apartment is on the first floor (2nd floor if you are American).
The ugly exterior of the house: it is NOT beautiful on the outside but your room is completely redecorated and new with a new bamboo flooring, no laminated floors. As is most of the flat.
We are really very close to town. You can walk or take the bus. The bus stop is 5 minutes walk away. When my back-up bicycle is working I may be able to lend it to you.
Our place is 5 minutes walk from Lark Lane; a cute street with Cafes, bars and restaurants, 2 parks, the bus stop to the airport and to the city center (journey time respectively 25-35 minutes and 10-15, walking time about 25 minutes to the city).
We also live a short walk from St Michael's Train station from where you can catch a direct train to the city center and to Formby beach and Southport, with many other locations if you change trains.
We will be in the flat when you visit and able to point you to a few places that you might be interested in. Jason may or may not be here depending on his work-schedule in America.
free and available off the street (we have a drive way).
external appearance of the house:
it is in need of restoration. But you'll be inside an apartment that has been completely refurbished and renovated 2 years ago. Clean.
1) the many choices of bars, cafes, restaurants and even live music on Lark lane.
2) Sefton Park and Princes Park 3) the public library 5 minutes from the apartment
3) you may read a book from Birgit's bookshelf
4) a community center on lark lane offers pottery classes, yoga classes and massage treatments & you have the option to take a Yoga Class with us, we are both qualified to teach
5) we are also both qualified to give Traditional Thai Massage (given with everybody fully clothed, just in case you were wondering) and Birgit also gives Thai foot massage with reflexology.
6) if you are really in the mood: Birgit can show you some crafting skills.. Making a little notebook, greeting cards etc..
Please make a little effort to communicate with us. We don't often accept requests that come without a short letter. Please write a little about yourself when you put in a request for the room. And ideally you are verified through Airbnb's various verifying options. If you are a man the above are essential.
We believe in making travel affordable. (We are both artists and know the value of money and the limitations not having enough of it bring). SO we are starting out on Airbnb charging a relatively low fee (+ second guest charge of £8 + the extra fees that Airbnb charges and adds itself.)
Birgit works from home most of the time so coordinating arrival and departure times is quite easy.
We CAN'T give out our key (it's one of those impossible to get a copy of). And we are generally asking our guests to leave the house when we do. (again: Birgit works from home 12 hours most days so coming and going is no problem)
You can contact us to check your approximate schedule with us. We got on really well with previous guests. A bed in the youth hostel dormitory would cost you about the same as staying with us, the advantage of staying with us is that you get your own room AND the cost for a couple is relatively low in comparison with the Hostel.
+ the area is really nice ;and very close and extremely easy to travel by bus to the city center.

We ticked the kids friendly box,
however there are a lot of art materials and art works around the place, also many relatively fragile things. We ticket yes but PLEASE contact us about the suitability before booking. It's going to be pretty boring here for children..
BUT if for example you are traveling with a BABY, our place is probably a GOOD deal.
3rd PERSON ??:
It is possible to arrange makeshift bedding for a third person, our 3rd person solution would be a very thin single futon mattress, so be aware of this. The usual bedding for 1-2 guests is VERY comfortable. It is only the 3rd person bedding that would be improvised.
I can only guarantee access to the bedroom and bathroom, the kitchen can be used with limited availability and the same goes for the living room.
Limited because I am vegetarian (no meat please) and I am also working in the kitchen / living room so it really is a studio / office. But a comfortable environment in which I do welcome you to share the space, drink tea and use the wifi.
Note to Guests:

Interaction with Guests
How much time I can spend with guests depends on my schedule, I have a couple of Liverpool maps that you may borrow and can help you finding your way around Liverpool.
I work from home and it varies how much time I have to socialize but it should always be enough time to make you feel comfortable and welcome.
My favourite thing about my neighbourhood are the old architecture, the rich green foliage around and that I live within 5 minutes walk of 2 large public parks. Lark Lane has some Cafes that are nice to go and eat lunch or dinner at, which makes things easy for visitors. A choice of grocery shops, a bank, bus stops and a train station are nearby.
My house is 3-5 minutes from the nearest bus stop, from where you can get into the city center (or with a change of busses, you can also reach the airport from here).
A local train station is 10 minutes walk away and taxis in Liverpool are priced fairly and a taxi ride to the airport might cost around £12, to the City Center Train Station: approximately £8
It is easy to get around.
Other Things to Note
Additional services that are available (subject to Airbnb being ok with this):
Yoga Lessons suitable particularly for beginners.
We don't smoke in the apartment, but you are welcome to sit on the step outside the house and enjoy your cigarette there.
We don't eat meat and please don't bring any to cook in the kitchen. If you bring sliced meat to make a sandwich with then that's ok. But we don't like anybody using our kitchen for cooking meat or poultry. Sorry.
We can't give you our house keys and guests can't stay at home when the hosts are out.
But this is not much of a problem as Birgit works from home most of the day or will make plans with you to make sure that you can come home whenever is good for you.
We aren't a professional hotel so please understand that we can't offer you the same facilities.
We look forward to hosting you even if we are quite busy and sometimes can't socialize much.
We feel we are offering a nice, sunny bedroom at a very reasonable cost, which will hopefully make your stay here restful.
Birgit was an absolutely lovely hostess! My flight had problems and was therefore incredibly late, but she kept in contact and greeted me outside to make sure I would find the building alright. Knowing my intention was a quiet and relaxing night, she went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and relaxed. We stayed up late into the night having a great (and much-needed!) conversation that I was very grateful for. The room itself was exactly as represented, the bed was very comfortable, and the house was clean and cozy. I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed my night there, and Birgit will be my go-to for any nights I spend in Liverpool after this! Highly, highly recommended for a chill night with intelligent and incredibly kind company!
Anna you just made me blush. Thank you so much for this fantastic feedback, I feel exactly the same about you staying with me. Intelligent, much needed conversation, and unexpected synchronicity when we both have Northern Thai Culture on your past and my future menu.
You completely inspired me and after your departure I researched an anthropology professor to ambush for conversation when I am in Chiang Mai..
I am exceptionally grateful to have met you, I will be back for a few weeks in May, come back and visit once more, please!
Staying with Birgit was a wonderful experience;) The room, as well as the whole flat, is full of art. The matress in the room is really comfy, everything is clean and good-smelling, and the fact that I didn't have my own key didn't bother me at all — it was easy to co-ordinate with Birgit at all times! The location is quiet and close to Sefton park, as well as to bus stop to city centre;)
Birgit is nice and helpful. The room is very cosy. Her flat is full of her art works. My friends and I enjoy the stay here
Birgit's place is very nice: the room is quiet, and you can hear birds singing in the morning; the mattress is soft and comfortable; the location is perfect, only 5-minute walk to the bus stop, from where the 82 bus can take you to most of the attraction sites; and there are also cookies, peanuts and fruits provided in the room.
We particularly enjoyed our chats with Birgit late into night, which would be an unforgettable experience for us. Time seemed to be slipping away much faster when we talked with her, and we were really reluctant to go to bed.
Thank you very much, Birgit, for taking out your time to talk with us on almost everything. By the way, we apologize for accidentally taking your map away. We've sent it back to you through post, and hope it can go back home safely:)
We really look forward to seeing Birgit again, and would love to hear more about her latest projects!
Si Cheng meeting you both will be unforgettable for me, too. You brought such a ray of sunshine to my home, it was absolutely delightful to spend this time with you. I feel privileged to have learnt a little about you and your life & studies, too. Please keep in touch. It would be so nice to meet again.
Birgit's home was cosy and the neighborhood was lovely. She made us feel very welcome, and the room was perfect for our short stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the bedding and feather pillows only made it more luxurious. Despite having a lot of work on her plate, she made sure to take time out to chat with us and gave us some fantastic suggestions for places to visit in the city, including some great ones just around the corner on Lark Lane.
I forgot a very special something! Birgit's recipes! haha!! No matter whether you are a vegetarian or not, she has great ideas for delicious food! Also the best coffee I drank in the UK was at her place. That means something. It is real food.
It all comes from Birgit's genuine attention to her guests - I can really tell she is that nice with other people who have been there as well.
Thanks for a great stay!!
I had a great stay at Birgit's place. Her flat is simply amazing, a beatiful place full of life and art, and also easily reachable from the city centre or the coach station. The bedroom is very comfortable and warm. Bathroom and kitchen are also great!! It is all clean and very practical. Birgit is a great host, and is really helpful on her insider tips to Liverpool's best. She has great views in a variety of subjects and is definitely worth to have a talk with her, if you get some free time.
I would surely recommend this place to my friends!

We look forward to meeting you:
We will do our best to make the room nice for your arrival.
About the room/bed:
first things first: A dormitory space in a youth hostel will cost around the same as what we are charging. So please understand that we are not providing hotel style accommodation.
We can't give out our house keys, guests can't stay in the house when the hosts are away, those times vary Birgit is mostly working from home so it's not really an issue anyway. And we can make arrangements depending on schedules. Getting home in the evenings is no problem we hardly ever go out, except for yoga classes.
We love meeting new people but don't socialize a lot when we have work to do. But please feel welcome.
The mattress that we have for you is very comfortable.
Birgit always runs out of shampoo so she can't be so generous with that. But you may use our toothpaste and soap is also here.
We are a German / American couple who have met in Venice 5 and a half years ago and came across Airbnb about 3 years ago. so far we have loved hosting our guests and have been lucky to make friends with some. The extra money helps us out and in return we offer a quiet space, incredibly close to local amenities and transport links.
Jason is a glassblower who took some time out from his job making glass ornaments and vessels in San Francisco, US to visit Birgit who makes art, which you can take a look on (website hidden). - update, the website no longer works, you can look for Birgit's work by googling Dungbeetle and Sisyphus and you will find a video project of her's.
We both practice YOGA regularly (2-4 times a week), Jason also visits a CLIMBING gym 2-3 times a week (and outdoors whenever possible) and we like food, which due to budget is often simple but tasty. We are often happy to share our lentil daal soups.
We don't know much about the nightlife in the city and aren't into drinking. (A glass of wine or beer with dinner we do like)
We eat vegetarian but won't give you lectures, although you might hear Birgit mumble once or twice about the ecological impact of animal farming. We make a great Banana smoothy.
